I guess he was blinded bt his beauty as almost all men would have been;
outer beauty probably mean inner beauty as well for him then.

maybe because he was forced to do so, by our evil tulika or maybe she just blackmailed him and another possible reason is that tulika did black majic on him with her evil powers and thoughts to keep him with her
