When Karan Singh Grover did Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi he was another new lead actor, who managed to make a place for himself in the industry. Having done a few roles here and there in and outside the Balaji Camp, he eventually landed in the dreamy role of Dr. Armaan, and he took teenage girls all over by storm. There was not a single 16 year who didnt vouch for Armaan's undying love for Dr. Riddhima. So real became the character, that people didnt know where Armaan ended and Karan began. All good, since everyone loves praises and adulation! But with passing time, this liking seemed to have turned into an obsession for many fan girls, who all over seemed to only think Armaan and justify every act of his that he did on screen. No wrong action against the actor was tolerated, so much so that the makers of the show could never explore the character beyond what they had initially set for him. I am sure Karan loved all the attention he was getting from his fans all over, but at what cost did this name and fame come?
Your personal life is speculated about, your every action is read into and your every gesture is read and re-interpreted by a million eagle eyes who are more than ready to decipher what you could mean and intend, even if the person were not to open his mouth and say a thing. Kuch bolo toh problem, aur agar kuch na bolo toh aur bhi badi problem!
The latest update on Gurmeet Choudhary's blog is another good example. So much are the fans into the on screen chemistry he shares with his co-star on the hit show Geet-Hui Sabse Parayi, that they do not want to see him with his real life girl friend as well. Now the on-screen chemistry undoubtedly between him and his co-star is sizzling, and they do appear to share a fairly decent rapport offline as well, but how can that be a reason for people to abuse or say things about his real life girl friend? How can fans forget that the life of an actor ends after a shot, and a real life like yours and mine starts soon after? Just to see two people together on screen, and that makes you happy, isnt it a little selfish to want the same to turn into real? Fans would argue, its harmless! But how can you speculate the life of another human being, just because he/she is a public figure? How many of us would be like to be told what we should be doing in our personal life??
The above two actors are only small examples. There are other names of actors and actresses who are adored to the core by fans and audience. Its natutal to want to know more about your favorites, but whats the fun, when you use that information to satisfy what your minds wants to only see and believe?
Actors are paid to do their jobs not please fan fancies and tolerate reactions all in the name of love and concern. A fan may think he wishes well for an actor, but how much of your actor do you really know? Today they play one role tomorrow they will play another. The shelf life of an actor, espeically in a medium like Television, is short lived and most of them believe in making hay while the sunshines. Love your actor, respect him and appreciate him. Actors make an attempt to stay in touch with their fans as they realise the efforts that are made by them be heard. If this has to go on fans need to realise they cant go on the way they are at the moment.
I personally feel discussion boards and fan forums are the ground for these speculations and such places need to be moderated on regular basis. But then again, how long can you stop someone, if one place shuts shop another will open. What is needed is a personal check on the part of every individual who needs to understand and realise, his job as a fan ends at the point where the show ends on that particular day! Dont forget, your freedom ends where the other persons nose begins!
