The Thriller ' Malayalam Movie Review

B Unnikrishnan who had earlier directed films like 'Smart City', 'IG', 'Madambi' and 'Pramani' promises to set your pulses racing this time with exciting "Thriller".

Prithviraj plays DCP Niranjan in B Unnikrishnan's 'The Thriller' that tells the story of a murder investigation.
Simon is the son of Joseph Palathinkal, a business magnet who is a multi millionaire. One night during the night patrol, Niranjan finds Simon Palathinkal stabbed and murdered on a highway. Since Niranjan is the prime witness in the case, I G Thomas George assigns the DCP with the investigation charge.

The film deals with several other issues. The major theme is the clash between Niranjan and Sambath, an underworld don based in Dubai.

Katherine, a Bangalore based model makes her debut in Malayalam films through 'The Thriller'. Besides Prithvi and Katherine, the film also has several other actors in supporting roles as Siddique, Lalu Alex, Riyaz Khan, Sambath, P. Sreekumar, Kollam Thulasi, Biju Pappan, Subair, Vincent, Asok, Anand, Mallika Kapoor and Uma Padmanabhan.Story, script and dialogues by the director himself, cinematography by Bharani K Dharan, music by Dharan are the other credits. 'The Thriller' would be produced under the banner of Ananda Bhairavi by Sabu K Cherian.

If you are looking for any kind of novelty in this film, you will be royally disappointed. Everything from the narrative structure to the vague profile of the protagonist remains unchanged except for a spark here and there. Young Superstar tries to rise above the script with thrilling success. He mouths lines in Malayalam as well as English and also translates them all the time. He confronts his adversary with a pistol or bare fists to catch the mind of the audience. With looks and manerism Prithviraj get success.

A distinguishing feature of this whodunit is that there isn't too much gore or too many fight sequences, and in so far as that is concerned it may not strictly fit into the action movie genre. But the story is gripping and the suspense sustained till the very last frames. If you feel the some parts of first-half are a trifle dragging for a typical suspense movie, don't you worry, because that is the only time you will be sitting relaxed in your seats. After that the narrative shifts gear and moves at a blistering pace, keeping you on tenterhooks all the while as to the identity of the culprit.

As a director, Unnikrishnan get success to keep suspense, also with a racy entertainer. The scenes and fights between Sampath and Prithviraj makes movie some what intersting. Point out the negatives; Love scences between Katherine and Prithviraj can avoidable and the casting of Mallika Kapoor. Rest cast do their roles neat and perfect.

Unnikrishnan's script did not come upto the mark of Renji Panicker, who is already a notable script writer which use racy and stunning dialogues. But Unnikrishnan succeed to make a highlight between Sampath-Prithvi scenes well. The overall treatment of the movie is pegged to the last decade's potboilers, with a potpourri of various ingredients ranging a good racy movie.
Prithviraj's immense screen presence and dialogue delivery proves, he is highly improving to the best doing the police uniform.
