Keikei in Nandigraam

Keikei: Bharat.

Bharat: Mahaaraani Keikei! Daas ke liye kya aagyaa hai? Koi aavashyaktaa thi, koi samasyaa thi to koi praheri ke haath sandesa bhijva deti. Aapki aagyaa ka poorn roop se paalan kiya jaataa. Aapko is prakaar swayam yahan aane ka kasht nahi karna chaahiye.

Keikei: Tumhare kehne ka arth yeh hai ki mai yahan nahi aa sakti? Jab Ayodhya ki prajaa ka har praani apni samasyaa le kar tumhare paas aa sakta hai, to tumhari maataa kyun nahi aa sakti?

Bharat: Kyunki aap mahaaraani hai. Aur mai raajaa Ram ka ek karmchaari. Mahaaraanion ka karmchaarion ke paas aanaa shobha nahi deta.

Keikei(Crying and pleading): Mai tumhari maa bhi hun Bharat. Mujhe mahaaraani nahi, keval ek baar maa kaho. Ek baar maa kaho.

Bharat: Kaise keh dun? Jise mai maa kehta tha use to mahaaraani Keikei ne maar daalaa. Aur mujhe maatruvihin kar diya. Mere hriday me jo apni maa ka sundar chitra ankit hai, woh aapse nahi milta mahaaraani. Meri maa to ek swachchha nirmal nadi ki tarah thi, jisme sarvada sneh aur mamtaa ki leheren hilore leti thi. Aur aap, aap to ek sukhi hui jheel ki bhaanti hai, jisme ab keval paap aur kapat ka keechad reh gaya hai. Kripaya mujhe apni mari hui maa ki yaad mat dilaaiye. Mere paas rone ka samay nahi hai. Kahiye. Aapki kya samasya hai?

Keikei: Mai, mai bhi yahan Nandigraam me rehna chaahti hun.

Bharat: Yeh sthaan tapasvion ke liye hai. Yahan raajmehel ke sukh nahi milenge.

Keikei: Mai bhi tapasvini ki bhaanti jeevan vyatit karna chaahti hun.

Aapne keval raaj maangaa tha. Uske liye aapne apne pati ke praano ka balidaan kar diya. Apni santaan ko desh nikaalaa de diya. Aapke itne bade balidaan ko ham vyarth nahi jaane denge. Isliye, ham aapko mahaaraani ke hi sthaan par rakhenge. Aapko raajmehel ke sukhon se vanchit nahi kiya jaa sakta.

Keikei (Continuously crying): Mujhe raajmehel ka sukh nahi chaahiye Bharat. Mujhe raajmehel ka sukh nahi chaahiye. Raajmehel ke reshmi bichhaune, mujhe bichchhoo ke samaan dankh maarte hain. Raajbhog mujhe vish ke samaan lagta hai. Mai raat ko so nahi paati Bharat. Hriday me ek krandan, ek chitkaar sa ubharta rehta hai. Jeevan ek maroosthal ke samaan suna ho gaya hai. Bharat. Ashru jab behte hain, to aisa lagta hai jaise aankhon se agni ki jwaalaa nikal rahi hai. Bharat. Mujh pe dayaa kar Bharat. Mujh pe dayaa kar. Mujh paapini ko is kutiya me daasi ban kar ek kone me padi rehne de Bharat. Kadaachit mujh paapini ko thodi shaanti mil jaay. Mujhe raajmehel me rehne ka ghor dand mat de. Mujhe raajmehel me rehne ka ghor dand mat de Bharat mat de.

Bharat (Gradually becoming soft from harsh): Jise aap ghor dand samajhti hain, kadaachit usi me aapka bhala ho. Is peeda se mat bhaago. Aapki tapasyaa to isi me hai, ki aap pashchaataap ki agni me nirantar jalti rahen. Reshmi bichhauno ke bichchhoo lagaataar aapko kaatate rahen. Kadaachit. Kadaachit isise aap paapmukt ho jaayen. Jaaiye mahaaraani Keikei. Aapki tapobhoomi raajmehel me hai.

In Panchvati after 12-13 years

(Ram, Lakshman and Seeta sitting outside the hut in silence – Lakshman sitting at lower hight massaging Ram's legs)

Lakshman (After a long thinking): Bhaiya. Ek heen bhaavanaa, mujhe sadaa apne aap me lajjit karti rehti hai.

Ram: Aisi kya hai taat?

Lakshman: Bhaiya, aap jaise nirvikaar, shaantaakaar ki sheetal chhaayaa me mera prati pal, prati kshan vyatit hota hai. Phir bhi meri vrutti itni ugra kyun hai? Aapse viparit, kyun hai meri prakruti bhaiya?

Ram (Smiling): Lakshman! Tum ookh ke samaan ho. Upar se kathor. Parantu andar, keval meethaas hi meethaas. Smile Bas! Yahi ho tum.

Lakshman: Bhaiya!! Aapne swayam hi mere ugra swabhaav ke liye, kai baar meri taadnaa ki hai. Parantu, aaj mujhe baalkon ke samaan behlaa rahe hain. Jeevan me anek baar, mere rakt me krodh ka ubaal aayaa.

Is glaani ko, mai apne mann me se kabhi nahi nikaal paataa.

Ram: Smile Bhool chook, bhraant bhaavna me bhatak jaanaa, maanav maatra ka praakrutik swabhaav hai Lakshman.

Lakshman: Bhaiya. Par aapse kabhi koi bhool kyun nahi hoti?

Ram: Tumhari yeh bhaavnaa, apne Ram bhaiya ke prati, aseem shraddhaa maatra hai. Isi ke aavesh me, us samay bhi tumhaare mann me, Bharat ke prati sandeh utpann ho gaya tha. Lakshman. Vaastav me tum bhaavnaa pradhaan ho.

Lakshman: To kya, bhaavuk hona buri baat hai bhaiya??!!

Ram: Nahi. Bhaavuk hona to ati sundar baat hai. Bhaavnaaviheen manushya, ek hinsak pashu ke samaan hota hai. Parantu jab bhaavnaa par, gyaan ka ankush na rahe, to bhaavnaa ke aavesh me, kai baar bhool ho sakti hai.

Lakshman: Parantu, jo aapki bhaanti gyaani na ho, wo apni bhool ka praayashchitt kaise kare? Apni bhool kaise sudhaare?

Seeta: Pashchaataap se. Tumhare mann me jo pashchaataap ki bhaavnaa hai, usise praayashchitt ho gaya samjho.

Ram: Kshama ka prashn to tab uthta hai, jab usne tumhe apraadhi maanaa ho. Smile Bharat ko tumne abhi tak puri tarah pehchaanaa nahi Lakshman.

Lakshman: Bharat bhaiya ke gun to anant hai bhaiya. Unhe wahi pehchaan sakta hai, jo saagar ki leheren gin sakta ho.

(Then Seetaji sends Lakshman for getting some forest wood for cooking and Shoorpankha arrives in the next scene)

Very small but beautiful scene which talks about control of intellect over mind - buddhi ka mann par ankoosh. Ram certifies that it is MIND (Mann/Bhaavnaa) only which is the most powerful entity required in human being but INTELLECT (Buddhi/Gyan) is required to guide it towards the right direction. The scene also covers the power of repent in purifying the mind and character and rectifying the mistake by generating that positive energy inside and outside by burning all vices. The scene further substantiates Ram's respect for and understanding about Bharat and portrays Ram to be the common thread between two great devotees and also covers the praise about Bharat. Basically, this small scene after many years of exile is the straight link with Chitrakoot episodes. However, in the serial and the epic, Aranya kand is not too long and not too many episodes are passed in between to cross 13 years.

References of Valmiki Ramayan & RamCharitMaanas

No direct references of this scene and the previous scene of 'Keikei in Nandigraam' are found in the main two sources VR and RCM at the precise places of the serial. However, Bharat in general at different places does treat Keikei like a queen very formally as if to give her the punishment to purify her mind and destroy her vices. Lakshman does ask Ram about KNOWLEDGE in Panchavati as per RCM and discusses about greatness of BHARAT during Panchavati stay as per VR.

@Debipriya

Jai Shri Krishna.Smile Posting the continued comments of mine on Orkut after your Bharat-Mandavi dialogs over here too.

Yes. That scene of Lalita in Shri Krishna serial stopping Akrur-Krishna-Balram on chariot has real good connection with the entire episode of Bharat's character in Ayodhya kand. Lola posted the siggie at very very right place. It reinforces the teaching of Janak's decision about definition of PREM - "Kabhi kabhi apne premi ke liye jeena kathin hota hai." (And that too separate - virah ki vyatha accept karke) - which Bharat has made realized to his wife here. And Krishna also asks the specific question to Gopis while leaving for Mathura - "Kaisa balidan?"

Sulakshana Khatri found the same situation to act with the another character she played in the Shri Krishna serial too. Rohini (Mandavi in Ramayan) also argues with Akrur and Nand that she should have been with Vasudev supporting her husband and sharing every sorrow in the prison. But the wisdom suggested otherwise. By doing what Rohini wanted to do, Vasudev had no benefit but instead his sorrow would have increased due to the sufferings to yet another wife of his. By taking trouble herself, she would have only increased and not decreased the troubles of Vasudev (And Vasudev already had one wife to share sorrows with him or serve him so it would have been a needless proposal of sacrifice.). Similarly, over here, Mandavi's intention and action had no match or consistency. There was no sense in showing the concern to do everything for the beloved one when that beloved one himself specifically wanted from her something else to do. The LOVE and the DUTY OF LOVER have been very specifically and seriously defined or redefined in the epic/serial. Claiming to sacrifice life for the other or offering the sacrifice of life doesn't make sense always because it hurts the other person more emotionally and adds no value to the situation when such sacrifice is not needed. (Such needless sacrifice might just fall under the category of TAMAS TYAG explained in Geeta Adhyay 18 which is done in over momentary impact of excitement or ego.) Instead, such noble intention only gets the form of futile show off of feelings which actually may not be the intention of or general nature of the saatvik genuine true lover doing it.
