STAR Plus presents Sachchai ki Agnipariksha with SACH KA SAAMNA

Star Plus continues the journey of creating cult programming with its latest offering Sach Ka Saamna. Beginning July 15th 2009 every Monday to Friday at 10.30pm, this show will be a window to the lives of common people as well as certain celebrities who will reveal their life's truths in front of their loved ones, making this their biggest test - 'sacchai ki agnipariksha'.

Sach Ka Samna has been adapted from an internationally acclaimed show called Moment of Truth, which has a huge fan base in India. While the Indian version will be just as hard hitting; the show will be mindful of Indian sensibilities.

Sach ka Saamna is a psychological game that tests the nerve and integrity of a contestant. This show will have the contestants reveal uncomfortable truths of their life which they will have to answer in front of their loved ones.

The contestants will face 21 questions about their own life and the answer to each question will have to be either a 'Yes' or a 'No'. The authenticity of the answers is determined by a polygraph test based 50 questions answered by the contestant earlier. Out of this stack, 21 questions are picked out to be asked on the show and the answers for the same are known to no one else but the contestant himself!

With each truth, the contestant rises up money tree, where the questions start getting more personal and edgier by the level; getting them closer to Rs. 1 Crore, which is the top prize.

Taking the contestants through this compulsive roller coaster ride, the suave and sensitive Rajeev Khandelwal, who also encourages them to keep their calm through this emotional journey.

Many a times, due to misunderstandings we severe ties with people close to us. This show aims to rectify those misunderstandings and re-establish ties. Sach ka Saamna attempts to bring about a positive change by helping the contestants resolve issues of their past and to lead a better life. But above all, the show rewards Honesty.

THE HOST

Rajeev Khandelwal was born on 16th October in Jaipur. His father is an army officer and he is the second of three brothers. Rajeev had a middle class upbringing in a family which was a little disciplined and strict.

Rajeev completed his graduation in Chemistry from St. Xavier's College, Ahmadabad. He went to Delhi after his graduation to pursue a career in acting. While looking for work, he started writing and directing documentaries. With 35 documentaries to his name, Rajeev arrived in Mumbai to pitch one of his films to private channels.

Refusing to be disappointed with tough situations, he revived his love for acting and started taking auditions. After a few small victories, Rajeev landed his most famous role as Sujal in the Star Plus show Kahin To Hoga. His charming good looks and great acting skills soon made him a household name across the country. He also starred in the Indian version of the immensely successful American show 24 called Time Bomb. His next major role was that of Captain Rajveer Singh Shekhawat in the teen military drama Left Right Left where he again garnered rave reviews.

Rajeev has won several accolades for his work, some of which are Star Parivar Favourite Jodi 2004, Best TV Personality 2004, Best TV New Comer 2004, Best TV Couple Of The Year 2004, MTV Lycra Style Icon 2005, Best TV Personality 2005, Sansui Indian Television Award for the Best Actor - Popular 2006 and Rotary Vocational Excellence Award 2008. He made a courageous decision to take a break from TV when he was at his peak and stepped into the silver screen with Aamir for which he won a lot of critical and commercial acclaim. Currently Rajeev is shooting for a film titled Peter Gaya Kaam Se and a couple of films in the pipeline.

He is back on television after a break with Sach ka Saamna and hopes that his viewers will love him in this avatar too.

Episode 1
Contestant: Smita Matai

Smitha Matai, a Researcher on educational curriculums, begins her journey to face 21 questions on her life with great courage. A mother of two, she lives in Mumbai with her husband Tony, from where she also runs a tiffin dabba sevice. The episode begins with some light-hearted questions that bring out the warmth, humour and optimism with which Smitha lives her life. The audience wonders whether this well kept lady, in a blue crepe sari, could have really gone by a week without bathing! Soon, the show starts to examine Smitha's emotionally strained relationship with her mother, and her deep-rooted resentments from childhood.

These questions move both mother and daughter, as emotions begin to rise, and truths come spilling out. Knowing very well what the questions could entail, Smitha preservers to face truths that could shatter her, and perhaps her marriage - questions on Tony's alcoholism, and its effects on their marriage. Has she ever thought of killing her husband? Or has she felt tempted to cheat on him? Is Smitha still married to her husband Tony only because of their children? Sentiments heighten as Smitha and her husband Tony face the bitter realities of the darkest time in their life.

Episode 2
Contestant: Yusuf Hussain - Part 1

A young at heart 64 year old Lucknowi actor, Yusuf Hussain takes the chair to brave the truths of his life in front of those closest to him - his daughter Safeena, girlfriend Jesebel, one of his three ex-wives Kanchan, his younger brother Habib, and son-in-law Hansal. A one time owner of a travel agency, this charming Urdu poet has lived flamboyantly in a world filled with art, literature and women.

The show brings out various aspects of his life - his love for soft bed sheets, a constant need for attention, and a dream girl that he still waits for. This light hearted mood changes tone as the questions get more personal. Can Yusuf answer whether he believes he has done more for his family than just sending money? How does Habib react to the question of Yusuf being the best son to their mother? With a sense of responsibility, Yusuf plunges into a series of questions revolving around his three marriages, the bringing up of his daughter Safeena, and the mistakes of his life. These questions stir every family member on the couch, especially Safeena, as they all find out whether they have the courage to face his truths.

Episode 3
Contestant: Yusuf Hussain - Part 2

Yusuf Hussain continues his path to answering all 21 questions truthfully in this episode. Beginning where we were let off in the previous episode, Yusuf gives us explosive answers to explosive questions. Does he have a child out of wedlock? Has he ever had sex with a relative? His answers, dignified, honest and brave, test his relationship with his loved ones present on the show to support him. At times they tear, and at others they look on stunned.

Yusuf speaks openly about his lapses in being a good parent, a good husband, and sometimes even a good person, with grace and poise. Both father and daughter breakdown, at which point Yusuf quietly declares that all he lives for is his daughter Safeena. Their strong bond becomes more and more apparent as the show unfolds, where it can only be hoped that it remains unbroken. Yusuf Hussain is determined to play on.

Episode 4
Contestant: Vinod Kambli - Part 1

Vinod Kambli, one of India's most talented cricketers, sits on the hot seat to face 21 grueling questions about his life in front of those who matter to him the most - his wife Andrea and friend, Rishi.

One of the few celebrities who have chosen to bare their life and confront the truth in full public view, Vinod comes across as a warm, full of life person, who has a vulnerable side to him. A nervous Vinod clutching onto a cross, eventually relaxes as he answers some light-hearted and embarrassing questions about his childhood. Vinod also affectionately called Sachin Tendulkar "Chabi Master" as he kept challenging Vinod to do some crazy things on their tours!

As the show progresses the questions get more personal and veer towards his cricketing career, going to areas that probably Vinod would rather forget than talk about. Did he ever feel discriminated against by the selectors of the Indian cricket team? Or does he believe that his first wife was one of the reasons for his professional downfall? The show gets steamier as questions about Vinod's wild past come up. The flamboyant, much liked and talked about Vinod plays on hoping to win it all!

Episode 5
Contestants: Vinod Kambli - Part 2; Urvashi Dholakia - Part 1

Vinod Kambli continues to answer tough questions as he plays on revealing a side to him that his fans have never been privy too. A surprise question asked by his father brings a tear to Vinod's eye and the answer brings to light his childhood and the difficulties he had to face to achieve his dreams. Can he truly forgive his father for beating and stripping him as a child? An emotional Vinod talks about his late mother and how he feels her presence with him all the time. His well known friendship with Sachin Tendulkar is also discussed and Vinod fondly talks about how their relationship is like that of Jai and Veeru from the film Sholay. The questions bring to fore a vulnerable side that's well concealed by a tough exterior image.

A feisty woman, Urvashi Dholakia is the much hated and admired vamp of Indian television. A single mother of two teenage sons, Urvashi has been through several ups and downs in her life, but chooses to live it her way whether people like it or not. A confident Urvashi takes the chair to face the truths of her life in front of her mother, Kaushal Dholakia and best friend, Shanela Kapoor. This gorgeous young lady confesses to having peed in the swimming pool when she was a child, much to her mother's embarrassment. Urvashi being her confident self answers some tough questions with great ease.

Episode 6
Contestants: Urvashi Dholakia - Part 2

Determined to face the truth and unfazed whether she will win or loose, Urvashi plays on. Does she believe most men she meets want to sleep with her? Did her best friend Shanela try to control her life? Would their friendship crumble after Urvashi answers this question?

Was there ever a moment when Urvashi feared that she was on the brink of becoming an alcoholic? With her mother being a quiet source of support, Urvashi braves the questions which get more and more personal. She delves into her past and talks about the difficulties she had to face as a single mother.

Episode 7
Contestants: Olwin D'Souza - Part 1

This episode is an insight into young urban life, through the experiences of a recently married couple, Olwin and Purvashree D'Souza, who immediately come across as sprightly, cheerful and engaging. Olwin is the more easy-going of the pair, whereas Purvashree seems to be more ambitious, and wishes he were too. On the couch, along with Purvashree is his family - his mother Celine, his sister Helvin, and mother-in-law. The two come from different cultural worlds, and the episode delves into the complexities of such marriages when Olwin has to answer if he believes his sister Helvin let the family down by marrying out of their religion?

The episode, however, starts with an amusing revelation for Purvashree - had Olwin ever tried to harm her cat Tinker Bell? Soon the show turns towards the tribulations of early married life when Olwin is asked if he often lies to his wife about working late, when in fact he is out with friends. But would Olwin sleep with another woman if Purvashree would never find out? As the answers come tumbling out, it is evident that Olwin has secrets, and interesting that Purvashree considers herself to be a spy. In fact the two plan to open a detective agency! This lovely light-hearted episode brings out the dichotomy between wife and husband, and the mutual love and understanding they share.

Episode 8
Contestants: Olwin D'Souza - Part 2

Olwin continues to face the truth undeterred and with a smile. The questions get more personal testing the strength of their marriage. Would he still want to be married to Purvashree if she chooses never to have children? While being intimate with his wife has Olwin ever thought of another woman? With each answer and secret that is revealed, Olwin and Purvashree seem to inch closer to each other. While Purvashree takes her husband's revelations in her stride, Olwin's mother-in-law is shocked by some of her son-in-law's confessions.

When asked if he feels trapped in his marriage? Olwin looks to the couch and Purvashree hits the buzzer. Less than a year into their marriage, wonder why the couple got rattled by that question. Instead of that Olwin has to answer to whether he has ever wished he had a different wife? Unfazed by his truths and his family's reactions, Olwin plays on and wins the hearts of the audience with his gentle demeanor and affable personality.

Episode 9
Contestant: Namraj Joshi - Part 1

40 year old Tour Operator, Namraj Joshi was in the Hot Seat. The game started with some fun moments where Namraj confessed that as a child he loved eating mud and bricks. The episode took an emotional turn when his sister's eyes were filled with tears when Namraj was asked the question," Do you resent your father for favoring your sister over you? Did Namraj avoid telling people that his mother was actually his step mother? He had established that he was in a good marriage with Prabha but he had to face the acid test when he was asked whether he was still attracted to his wife Prabha or whether he enjoyed being on tours because he was away from his wife. Would Namraj have the courage to answer these edgy questions? Will relationships change after this sacchai ki agnipariksha?

Episode 10
Contestants: Namraj Joshi - Part 2; Nilesh Ingle

Namraj Joshi continues his journey of truth. As he rises up the money tree, his questions get tougher. These questions revolve around his professional life. Has he had physical relationships with his female client on a tour? Would Namraj face the truth?

Nilesh Ingle is the next contestant to take over the hot seat. Nilesh is 26 years old and works for a Finance Company. He had humble beginnings where his father was a security guard and his mother, a domestic help. As a child, Nilesh was embarrased of his background but he outgrew this complex and rose up in the world to provide for his family. Today, he has bought a flat for his parents and lives with them. He is married to Mansi.

Nilesh, who looks like he follows every rule in the book, would be asked if he was ever chased by a traffic policeman? Has he felt hurt by the fact that his classmates discriminated against him based on his caste? These shadows of the past loom large. Would Nilesh emerge out of these once again?

Episode 11
Contestants: Sherrin Verghese

Sherrin Verghese is an entertainer - a musician, a singer and an actor. Currently, he is a member of the India's first boy band, the Band of Boys. This highly enjoyable episode is light, frothy and full of easy banter.

Sherrin is accompanied on the couch by his close friend and fellow band mate Chin2 Bhonsle, his wife Shefali, his mother Elsie, and his sister Shelby. As a member of the Band of Boys, certain directives were put in place - apart from singing well, the boys were also told to look good at all times. In such a case, where appearances are given such premium, one wonders whether Sherrin has ever had a hair transplant, or if he would pose nude for the cover of a magazine if he were offered 5 lakhs? How does the family react to the questions and to the answers?

Sherrin is a celebrity, and through his answers we get a glimpse of the inner workings of a celebrity's mind. Why does Sherrin look worried when he is asked about a hit-and-run? Sherrin recognizes that the journey to success is not yet over, and would like his talent to be recognized by all. However, does he believe he is the most talented singer in the band? Watch this celebrity bare all - his insecurities, his aspirations and his truths.

Episode 12
Contestants: Zankhana Shukla

The contestant on this episode was Zankhana, a tarot card reader based in Mumbai who also works for a media company. She is an independent woman who wants to make a mark for herself and eventually write a book on her life.

Zankhana said that this show was a medium for her to speak the truth and confess a few things to her family. She said that she loved her mother-in-law more than her mother. But would she have the courage to answer the question - Have you ever eaten Non-Vegetarian food without the knowledge of your in-laws? A tarot card reader passionate about what she does, doe she reveal her client's problems to her friends? Does she feel superior to her husband because she earns more than him?

Episode 13
Contestants: Nargis Lokhandwala

A confident and full of life woman, Nargis Lokhandwala, is an insurance agent based in Mumbai. As Nargis takes the hot seat to speak the truth, she's joined by her husband Shabbir Lokhandwala, her brother Younis Rangwala, sister-in-law Fatima Rangwala and friend, Rukshana on the couch. Rajeev reminds her that she can secure her winnings on the show by playing in a safe and smart manner.

At 56, Nargis is young at heart, and confesses much to everyone's amusement, some fun and crazy things that she has done. Does she enjoy cracking adult jokes in parties? In school did she really think she would get pregnant by kissing a boy? As she progresses through the game, the questions turn more personal. Does she think her younger brother Saifi is smarter than her elder brother, Yunus? Does she believe her husband uses his illness as an excuse to shirk his responsibilities?

As Nargis plays on, she is taken by surprise as her son Murtuza walks in to ask her question. A delighted Nargis comes to terms with her truths and emerges triumphant as she keeps her family smiling and together.

Episode 14
Contestant: Isha Mehta - Part 1

Isha Mehta, a self-proclaimed healer & tarot card reader, sits on the hot seat to face the truth. Dressed in a red leheriya saree with rudraksha around her neck, Isha says that she is here to speak the truth. A few questions embarrass her. Did she drink milk out of a feeding bottle even as a teenager? The questions veer towards her professional life. Has she ever duped a client into paying you more than required for her religious services?

As Isha moves up, she is questioned on her life with her parents - Does she take her uncle's financial help for granted? Does she love her father? Does she think that her Guruji controls her life? What would Isha's answer be? Would her truths be spoken against her reputation as a spiritual healer?

Episode 15
Contestants: Isha Mehta - Part 2; Shikha Goswami - Part 1

Isha continues her journey of truth. She is put to test with edgy questions like Do you know a secret about your Guruji which could ruin his reputation? Would the answer to this question ruin her relationship with he Guru? Also, Isha's qualification as a spiritual healer is put to test with some tough questions. Is she a materialistic person? Has she ever falsely claimed to have healed a person? How far would Isha go?

Shikha Goswami is a single mother who is very open about her ego and her reservations in life. Her aura exudes a boldness which is an integral part of her personality. Did she refuse to her father inspite of knowing that she would go without food for it? Does she think she is the best looking of all her siblings? Shikha has had a troubled childhood. Did she feel like an orphan even though her parents were alive? Would Shikha's mother be able to handle the truth that Shikha speaks about her family?

Episode 16
Contestants: Shikha Goswami - Part 2

Shikha Goswami continues the crusade of truth. Shikha is forced to look into her life and see if others were really the reason for her unhappiness. Did she resent her husband for sending money home to his mother? Do you truly believe you have been a good wife?

The questions force her to introspect further. Would she get back with her husband if he apologized to her? Shikha and her family face a few bitter truths but would Shikha have the courage to see her relationships for what they are?

Episode 17
Contestants: Raja Choudhury - Part 1

Raja Chaudhury, actor turned producer braved the hot seat to speak the truth. Very few celebrities have had the courage to come out and bare their souls. Raja is put to test with a lot of questions that could alter his image as a celebrity. Does he create false stories about himself to appear more interesting to his friends? While working as a part of a television production team has he ever siphoned money?

The questions veer towards the controversies that Raja has been involved in. Does he think it is okay to hit women? Has he ever beaten his wife? Will Raja's courage fail him?

Episode 18
Contestants: Raja Choudhury - Part 2

Raja continues his test of truth on Sach ka Saamna. His past looms ahead of him. The questions get even more up close and personal. Does he use his loneliness as an excuse to drink alcohol? Do does he believe he have brought shame to your family? With such questions put forth in front of his parents, Raja seems to be squirming in his seat. These truths won't be easy to speak.

Raja is then questioned on his tryst with the media. Does he deliberately put up a show to attract the attention of the media? How far would Raja go? Would he have the courage to bare it all?

Episode 19
Contestant: Bobby Darling

Bobby darling a well known celebrity takes the hot seat to brave truths about his much spoken about but little understood life. A strong willed person, bobby decides to face his truths in front of his brother Sachin, cousin Meenakshi and friend, Ravi. Born as Pankaj Sharma, as a teenager he had to deal with a lot of emotional turmoil while coming to terms with his own sexuality. Choosing to be a woman has not been an easy decision and with bobby, his family has had to face many tribulations over the years. From the difficulties his sister had to deal with because of him, to his own acceptance of being a good son, the answers reveal the real bobby hidden behind the gloss and make-up.

The highlight of the show is bobby's reunion with his father, who comes to Mumbai for the first time to meet his son in 8 years. An emotional bobby breaks down while talking about his late mother and how much he misses her. The episode revolve around him being bobby darling, the never before shocking revelations by bobby darling himself, about his acceptance by the society and family. As the questions get tougher, and the truth comes spilling out, bobby and his family get closer. His answers bring to light how lonely and challenging it is to choose to be different yet true to yourself.

Episode 20
Contestant: Meena Shah - Part 1

Meena got married at the age of 16 and is living her life on her own terms. Her parents were not on good terms and eventually got divorced. She has been raised by her mother. She has a brother also who is a photographer. Meena has seen tough times in her marriage and took the lead in various situations as she felt that her husband was weak-willed. Currently working as an event manager, Meena Shah comes across as a self- governed and confident lady who has achieved a lot with her sheer grit and determination.

Dressed in a cobalt blue saree, Meena Shah, musters up courage to sit on the controversial Hot Seat. She is one of those rare women who exhibit their inner-strength when one glances at them for the very first time. Life has been a battle for Meena and this is evident in her gait. Tender moments occur when Rajeev askes her whether it hurt her when her parents called her brother an ugly child? Meena's husband says that he looked at her and fell in love with her in the very first sight. Would this relationship shatter when she is asked whether she has ever raised her hand on her husband? Will Meena have the courage to go on?

Episode 21
Contestants: Meena Shah - Part 2; Bhavin Lakhani - Part 1

Meena continues her foray into the tough grounds of Truth. Her relationship with her husband is further put to test with the question - Will she ever leave her husband. Her brother walks out of the studio saying that he refuses to be associated with her as her truths will result in a loss of reputation for the family. Meena is visibly shocked at this furious exit. What was the confession that prompted this exit? Will Meena continue her journey of truth knowing that it would severe her ties with her brother?

Meena was rewarded for her courage to speak the truth. She walked away with the prize money of Rs. 10 Lakhs. Meena was succeeded by Bhavin Lakhani, a VP of International Marketing of an Export Import company. Bhavin comes across as a confident middle-aged man who seems to have led an eventful life. His happy relationship with his wife is obvious in the first instance. However, this love is put to test when Bhavin is asked whether he would like to alter one of his wife's features by plastic surgery. What would be the outcome of this truth?

Episode 22
Contestants: Bhavin Lakhani

Bhavin comes across as a confident but self-obsessed man full of stories of his life. Bhavin has two younger sisters (Gargi & Toral). He is not in talking terms with Gargi - his youngest sister and she holds him responsible for interference in her personal life. Bahvin believes he has a sixth sense and can make premonitions. He claims he see ghosts and that his premonitions come true.

Bhavin plays Sach ka Saamna with confidence. He does appear uncomfortable after admitting to the truth but his wife smiles back at him with each confession. Bhavin's questions are truly edgy - Does he have connections with the underworld? Has he ever hired a person to kill someone? Would Bhavin's past prove to have an ugly head? Bhavin's lovely relationship with his wife is already there for one to witness but will she be able to withstand his replies to the questions? Does Bhavin have a secret that could destroy his marriage? What could this devastating secret be?

Episode 23
Contestants: Vimarsh Roshan - Part 1

On the hot seat, in this episode, is Vimarsh Roshan is an actor who does a role in Sapna Babul ka - Bidaai. He is a handsome confident young man who very bravely declares that 1 crore is a big sum which means a lot to him. Vimarsh Vimarsh, who hails from Kashmir, was asked whether he burnt his classroom furniture as a Student. In his youth, has he ever forged his salary slip to negotiate a better salary?

He is currently pursuing his dream of being an actor in Mumbai. But would he be ready to leave everything behind to go and live with his parents if they really needed him? Would his mother be able to handle the revelations that he son is making on the show? Would she have the courage to face his truths?

Episode 24
Contestant: Vimarsh Roshan - Part 2

Vimarsh continues his journey of truth with all his courage. The journey gets even tougher as he has to own up to his truths in front of his close friends and his mother. Does he feel superior to his friends because of his caste? Would he speak the truth which which would turn all his friends against him?

Vimarsh tells his friends and his mother that they should see him as a complete person and not judge him by just the truths that he has confessed to. Has he ever ragged someone to an extent that it psychologically traumatized the person? Parul Chauhan, Ragini from Bidaai, asks him a very edgy question. Has he ever discriminated against a co-actor because of the colour of their skin? Would these questions compel Vimarsh to discover his dark side?

Episode 25
Contestant: Zahra Rehmani - Part 1

Zahra Rehmani is an attractive 22 year old who has decided to brave the hot seat. On the couch are her Mother, Sister Sarah, Father and her fianc Imran. A strong-willed and confident girl, when she was only 17, Zahra convinced her mother to leave her abusive father.

Zahra is asked various questions on her life ' did she ever wear a burqa to avoid getting caught while out with her boyfriend? Her parents are evidently shocked at the revelations. Zahra confesses that she has done everything that she could for her family. However the questions push her to the edge ' does she feel inferior to her sister Sarah as she is more educated than Zahra? Does she love her father inspite of him physically abusing her mother? Would Zahra's relationships stand tall against these truths?

Episode 26
Contestants: Zahra Rehmani - Part 2

Zahra Rehmani continues her pursuit of truth. She openly confesses that she is here to win money for her family. She also says she has no fear as she knows that her family will accept her as she is, but the questions get edgier ' would she accept another man in her mother's life? She tells Rajeev that Imran is exactly what she wanted in her life partner but will this prove to be the truth as Zahra is questioned on their relationship. Does she truly love Imran? Will her love stand the test of truth?

Episode 27
Contestants: Zahra Rehmani - Part 2; Pranshu Vashisht - Part 1
