A new family drama has hit the small screen — Burey Bhi Hum, Bhale Bhi Hum

A slice of everyday life, it's an entertainer and heartwarming tale of two brothers and their families living under the same roof.

Capturing the essence of the contemporary Gujarati household and produced by J D Majethia and Aatish Kapadia, Burey Bhi Hum Bhale Bhi Hum takes the genre a step ahead from the popular Baa Bahoo Aur Baby with the lovable, simple, crazy and conniving characters of the Popat family.

Speaking on the launch, Vivek Bahl, Senior Creative Director, Star Plus said, "Burey Bhi Hum Bhale Bhi Hum is a Gujarati family drama revolving around characters we will
love... and love to hate. With the launch of Burey Bhi Hum, Bhale Bhi Hum, we aim to give our viewers even more variety in our prime time line-up."

Burey Bhi Hum Bhale Bhi Hum, to be telecast Monday to Friday, is a story set around a Gujarati family residing in Baroda, the Popat family. The head of the family, Ambalal (Firoz Irani) has two sons, Mansukh (Ashiesh Roy) and Bhallu (Manoj Goel), with their respective wives and children. Though the family stays together, they are completely divided with respect to their approach and attitude towards life. The show features other actors like Harshada Khandvilkar, Priti Joshi, Piyush Ranade, Sheetal Thakkar, Srman Jain, Ashutosh Kulkarni, Shruti Bafna, Ritu Parmar, Prasad Barwe, Bijal Batvia and Nitin Jain playing members of the family.

    Get to know the characters:
Ambalal (Age:75) played by Firoz Irani

Scion of a wealthy family, Ambalal is a loving old man. Generous by nature, he owns a jewellery shop and estate nearly worth Rs.80 crores. Married at a young age to Heera, Ambalal was always dominated by her. Ever since her sudden disappearance, Ambalal turned eccentric. He even banned selling diamonds in his shop as it reminded him of his wife, Heera. He believes in Brahma Vaakya (the ultimate truth), and whatever he says should be fulfilled as it is. Ambalal's blind love towards his elder son Mansukh, has blinded him to the wrongdoings of his children. Ambalal is usually unaware of the goings-on in the family, thanks to the defective hearing aids that Mansukh supplies him with.

Mansukh (Age:55) played by Ashiesh Roy

Ambalal's eldest son, Mansukh runs a side business of money lending and is an astute character. He is on the lookout to con everyone he meets. He keeps his younger brother Bhallu and his entire family under his control. He loathes his father's iron fisted control on property and money matters. The only selfless love he has is towards his wife, Rasila. A strong-headed character, Mansukh follows his own set of rules and rigid values.

Rasila (Age:50) played by Harshada Khandvilkar

Wife of Mansukh and the elder sister of Sushila, Rasila comes from a joint family. She arranges to get her sister Sushila married to her younger brother-in?law Bhallu, so that she can keep the reins of control over them. She has always been jealous of Sushila because of her beauty, hardworking nature and ability to find a place in everyone's heart. A flamboyant character, Rasila inherently enjoys wearing expensive sarees and jewellery and manages to get money out of her miserly husband.

Bhallu (Age:50) played by Manoj Goel

Younger son of Ambalal and Mansukh's younger brother, Bhallu is a shy, simple and submissive. After his mother's sudden disappearance at the age of five, he has been extremely attached to his Mansukh and trusts him blindly. Bhallu is scared of ghosts, unwanted guests, troublesome or uncalled for situations in life. He takes every one at their face value and believes 'koi jhooth thodi bolega?'' Customers take advantage of his simplicity.

Sushila (Age:48) played by Priti Joshi

Bhallu's wife and Rasila's younger sister, Sushila is mother to Jay and Hetal. A meek character, Parbha is grateful to Mansukh and Rasila for taking care of her simpleton husband. Very beautiful, Sushila is a good mother, loves her kitchen chores, cooks and loves watching recipes shows on TV. She constantly worries about the marriage of her daughter, Hetal.

Kaivalya (Age:30) played by Piyush Ranade

Elder son of Rasila and Mansukh and husband of Jyotika, Kaivalya is a lawyer by profession and has many conflicts with his
father. He can go to any extent to get his way. A flamboyant and pompous character, he loves branded clothes, accessories, etc.

Jyotika (Age:28) played by Sheetal Thakkar

Kaivalya's wife, Jyotika married him believing him to be very rich. A former dress designer/model, she likes to visit and also host parties. She is a fake clairvoyant and her predictions hardly ever come true. She is lazy and cannot do a
single household chore by herself. An outright gossipmonger.

Baabli (Age: 24) played by Srman Jain

Younger son of Rasila and Mansukh, and brother of Kaivalya, Baabli is an HSC failure but dreams to make it big in life. He aspires to be a filmstar some day. Since he is not as cunning as his family, he usually ends up spoiling their strategies. He has the good looks but no brains. He pretends to be smart to impress his father, but it always backfires.

Gargi (Age:28 years) played by Bijal Batavia

Rasila and Mansukh's daughter and Gaurang's wife, Gargi believes that she is the centre of this universe and everything must revolve around her. She even fakes illness to get others' sympathy. She is always competing with her bhabhi, Jyotika and can't stand her. She is her father's pet.

Hetal (Age:27) played by Shruti Bafna

Bhallu and Sushila's daughter and Jay's elder sister, Hetal is a bright and homely girl, who also designs jewellery. However, having studied in Gujarati medium, she suffers from a huge inferiority complex. The plain?Jane is always dressed simply in salwar-kameez and lives in a parallel universe of TV and films. She is ready to settle down with whoever her family suggests.

Jay (Age:25) played by Ashutosh Kulkarni

Bhallu and Sushila's son and Hetal's brother. Jay is a handsome, happy and cheerful character. He plays the tabla and is always devoted towards his Tau, Mansukh. Jay gets along well with all his cousins but is never given his due. Hard-working, yet simple, Jay actually runs the show of the shop but never likes to take the credit.

    Krishna (Age:23)

Elder daughter of Rao Bahadur Ajit Kumar Chaudhari, Krishna is a very intelligent, sharp and headstrong character. She has the ability to twist any situations to her benefit and yet never misuse her intelligence. She makes sacrifices for people she really loves. She is Jay's love interest.

Yashvi (Age:7) played by Rutu Parmar

The only child of Kaivalya and Jyotika, Yashvi is a bright and intelligent kid. Extremely good in mathematical calculations, she helps him at times and earns his love. She is a younger version of her
mom. She also believes in looking prim and proper and is brand conscious too, just like her father.

Gaurang (Age:30 years) played by Nitin Jain

Gargi's husband and the only son-in-law of the Popat family, Gaurang always expects to be treated well whenever he is at his in-laws place. He is very blunt which puts others on their guard. Gargi and Gaurang stage fights to extort money from the family and con people for their own benefit.
