Guys Srk-Juhi friendship is so beautiful, read the bold part😳

Siege Within

Are SRK's enemies outnumbering his friends? Vickey Lalwani finds out

Posted On Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 02:17:04 AM
Not Bad Not Bad Not Bad Not Bad Not Bad

The public adores him. They stand in droves outside his house everyday and they come in hundreds to visit him on his birthday. He is also the golden boy of the industry; they too visit him in droves every time there is a crisis in his life like his recent surgery and attend his parties with much gusto.

He is Shah Rukh Khan.

He is a man who has every reason to smile and make merry. Why then does he confide more in his computer than in his family and why does he only work within a very small circle?

As he stays at home for two months after his anthroscopy, it is time to introspect.

The list of actors he has estranged grows each time he opens his mouth. From the Bachchans to the three contenders for the throne, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, they all hate him despite the photo-op displays of camaraderie. Amitabh Bachchan has had a bone to pick with him ever since he followed in Big B's illustrious footsteps and signed Kaun Banega Crorepati. Salman Khan and he had a very public fight reportedly over an old flame of Salman's but that was only the last straw. Despite SRK's visits to the Salman Khan home, there had been animosity brewing between them for a long time.

Aamir Khan of course cannot stand anyone who says anything even marginally negative about him whether it is critics, co-actors or rivals. SRK's digs at Aamir have not gone unnoticed leading Aamir to blog the famous sentence about his dog called Shah Rukh.

With Akshay the open rivalry is relatively new. Till last year they were on the point of announcing a film together, today they barely greet each other civilly when they meet. While SRK's camp pray that every film of Akshay should bite the dust, Akshay's coterie send out SMSes when an SRK film hits the theatres saying that the film is not doing too well, even when the collections are respectable.

One very successful actor was even overheard saying that from now on every time SRK made a crack at his expense, he would respond in kind. Obviously SRK's somewhat wacky sense of humour, which can be funny when directed at himself but hurtful when directed at others, has not gone down well with his rivals. After his stint as compere of last year's Filmfare awards during which he and Saif Ali Khan made fun of everyone and everything, this is even more obvious.

Things are no better with directors. Mani Ratnam, for example, who loves to repeat the actors he is comfortable with has not repeated SRK after Dil Se. Vishal Bharadwaj has been peeved with him ever since SRK offered suggestions on a Vishal script that Vishal was keen on making with him. The 'I know everything' director took offence to it and started criticizing some of SRK's past work. SRK did to take this lying down and returned all this criticism with interest. The Omkara director was shocked and later realised the gravity of the situation and wanted to mend things with SRK. He approached Gulzar to mediate between the two of them. Gulzar tried his best to pacify SRK but SRK declined the offer to work with Vishal anymore.

Mahesh Bhatt though, who last directed him in Duplicate, and has not gone back to him for a film, thinks SRK is more grounded than most. He says, "I only see a wiser and quieter man, somebody who is very clear and sorted. He read out some extracts of his autobiography to me, they were heart-breakingly true. Here is a man whose humanity is still intact. He is one of the few people who has his feet firmly planted on the ground."

On the other hand SRK can be the staunchest and most loyal of friends. His friendship with Juhi Chawla has stood the test of time and even today he is a regular visitor to her house when he is in town. In fact during his one day recent stay at hospital, his food came from the Juhi household.

SRK now works with only a very select group of people which includes Yash and Aditya Chopra (and the films they produce), Farah Khan and Karan Johar. Most of the time he is not even available to listen to a narration by other makers. This definitely limits his choices.

Mushtaq Sheikh, an ex journalist and close friend of ShahRukh who has documented SRK's life in his book Still Reading Khan says, "Why does it become a wrong choice? You don't question the decision of the biggest star that India can ever know. The decision has worked for him. He is a man for whom friends are his world. His comfort zone is important to him. He worships his work, and if you worship your work, you obviously want to do it with the people you are comfortable with; people whom you feel are on your same wavelength with you. That's exactly why SRK is able to pull off film after film for more than a decade now. It doesn't get bigger than Karan and Adi does it? SRK has the best and the biggest. Maybe Bollywood will have to wait if they want to be friends with him or respect his space if they want to work with him."

Brave words these, defensive too but also very revealing. SRK has painted himself into a corner and hurt or annoyed most of the film industry. While he and his friends may like to pretend that this is all very well and so long as the public love him all is fine with his world, the fact is that at 43 he has limited choices.

The old adage which says you need to be careful of who you offend while on the way up, because these are the same people you will meet on your way down, will come back to haunt Shah Rukh Khan, once the darling of the industry but today the most detested.

I will be back, hale & hearty: Shah Rukh Khan

Spicezee Bureau

Bollywood's Badshah is back after his shoulder surgery. Lined up in future are some projects that might be physically very demanding for the convalescing star. In the next six months when Shah Rukh is, hopefully, back to his normal energised self, he is to start work on Farah Khan's yet unnamed flick apart from a children's action-hero film, which might be a challenge in itself, physically.

The actor had not even come out of the cotton gauze and the dressing on his arm, than he was sitting in a tte--tte with Spicezee.com and the press. Fidgeting imperceptibly in pain, and often trying to hide the winces that kept punctuating his replies, King Khan was his hospitable best.

Excerpts:

Q: How was your experience in the surgery? Were you scared?

Shah Rukh:
The doctors were very nice. I was very comfortable.

Q: What have you been asked to do as exercise?

Shah Rukh:
They will give me some exercises to do, but later. Right now for two to three weeks I don't have to do anything.

Q: Why did you choose to be operated in Mumbai this time? You went abroad last time…

Shah Rukh:
We have the best people in every field here in India. Besides, I decided to be operated here because I wanted to be with my children The team of Ali Irani and Sanjay Desai is very good. Last time I went abroad because that particular specialisation was invented by that doctor itself who operated me. By then the technique had not reached India.

Q: How long will it take for you to convalesce?

Shah Rukh:
I will not be shooting for two and a half months, around eight to nine weeks.

Q: Reportedly, you have some high-action films lined up. How will you handle that strain?

Shah Rukh:
I haven't decided on that yet. When I am rehabilitated properly, I should certainly be up to that. It will be okay then.

Q: What will you do when you are laid up for so long?

Shah Rukh:
I will sit down and work on the uncompleted stories of my upcoming movies, take up the preparatory projects, be with my children for their exams are near. There is a lot for me to do, in fact.

Q: There are the IPL matches. Won't you be needed there?

Shah Rukh:
For the IPL team I don't need to be there all the time. Only one player needs to be bought. If I go, you all will just click good pictures of me, what else is there to do?

Q: Where will you be convalescing for the time you have been advised rest?

Shah Rukh:
I will stay at home for three weeks. By the grace of God my home is big enough so there is much space at my home to move about.

Q: Will you spend your time watching your movies, like 'Billu'?

Shah Rukh:
I don't watch my own films.

Q: If you are so ill, why did you agree for this press meet at all?

Shah Rukh:
If I say no to meeting you people, you all would feel you were not interesting for me to meet. I saw so many of you waiting outside, in all that dangerous hustle-bustle, so I asked to arrange a meet here, at least we will be able to talk safely.

Q: Will you be able to get back your legendary high energy levels after this surgery?

Shah Rukh:
Energetic again? I have had worse surgeries than this – the spinal surgery was the worst. I'll be fine, don't worry. What energetic thing do you want me to be doing? That young lady keeps asking me about some energetic thing to do… I feel like it is a proposal!

Q: Would you leave a message for all the fans who have been praying for you all these days?

Shah Rukh:
I thank all of you. I understand my work affects and touches a lot of people, most whom I don't even know. My illness is affecting a lot of people. I am an employee of you all. My life is dedicated to entertaining you all. I feel very bad when my illness adversely affects all of you. God willing, I will get well very soon.

SRK discharged

By: A CorrespondentDate: 2009-02-17

Shah Rukh Khan was discharged from the Breach Candy hospital in the afternoon. The actor made a quiet exit from the back entrance of the hospital to avoid media glare.

One of his visitors today was Rani Mukherji while yesterday Karan Johar and Farah Khan had visited the superstar. They have been trying to keep things quiet around him to ensure others in the hospital were not inconvenienced.

SRK was admitted to the hospital for a shoulder surgery yesterday afternoon. He was operated on by DR Sanjay Desai. Wife Gauri Khan was with him throughout.

Shah Rukh Khan leaves hospital in 24 hours; Doctor says it's because he made an "excellent recovery"

King Khan was back in his den Mannat just 24 hours after his surgery. He left his sea-facing hospital room at around two in the afternoon yesterday and was whisked off from the rear exit.

His surgeon, Dr Sanjay Desai says, "Shah Rukh was discharged early as he made excellent recovery."

The doctor adds that the actor knew everything about the surgery before he went in for it, "He had done his homework well before coming to us. He met experts in London, USA and India and then chose us."

Desai adds that Shah Rukh wasn't at all nervous before the surgery, "In fact, he was quite calm and composed."

When asked if he was nervous about operating on one of India's biggest names, he says, "One is always nervous, stressed and tense before surgery. But once it begins, one does it as a thorough professional.

It's a relief and satisfying experience that everything has gone so well. Now Shah Rukh needs some patience and exercise for the next few weeks till he recovers completely." Dr Desai will be controlling his recovery programme for the next six months.

Dr Desai adds that although there are no dietary restrictions, he will have to be careful for about a month, "Shah Rukh should take it easy in the next couple of weeks and start heavy-duty work (like action and dance sequences) only after six months.

He can start doing non-physical stuff and going out after two weeks."

The surgery took a hour and a half and was arthroscopic or minimally invasive keyhole surgery. Shah Rukh has 10 sutures or stitches two sutures per keyhole.

On Monday, Shah Rukh's good friends Farah Khan and Karan Johar came to meet him yesterday Rani Mukerji dropped into meet SRK before he was discharged.

Course of treatment

Shah Rukh's physio-therapist, Dr Ali Irani, says, "As far as movements and physiotherapy is concerned, we will follow Dr Desai's protocol.

There was a lot of shaving of bone, so Shah Rukh will have to wear a sling for the next few days.

We have already started cryotherapy Monday evening onwards, which involves putting ice and water in a flask held together by the shoulder sling. This puts pressure on the injured area.

There will be no movement for the next three days and after that, we will see how he responds. The sutures will be removed after 10 days after which we can figure out what kind of movement he's capable of.

Though Shah Rukh has been advised not to do heavy action till six months, knowing him, I am sure he will start in three months. He understands the human anatomy very well.

He had torn the same supra sinatus muscle in 2003."

Get well soon Shah Rukh Khan

Posted by: Shilpa Jamkhandikar

We all knew Shah Rukh Khan had surgery 24 hours ago and yet there he was for us — dressed in T-shirt and jeans, only the sling over his left arm revealing he was in hospital till this morning.

He looked tired, almost as if he would rather sleep it out in bed than face the media. But Khan answered every question with no sign of impatience.

If I were him, I wouldn't like to talk to anyone, let alone face a hundred television cameras and photographers screaming, "Shah Rukh bhai, ek shot please!"

The actor said he was feeling fine, but admitted there was some pain. Khan would not be able to work for a month or two.

"I plan to spend the time developing some stories and scripts that we are looking at," he said.

"Also, my kids have exams coming up, so maybe I will coach them."

Why is he addressing the press a day after he's had surgery, I wonder. Couldn't this have waited?

Khan had his answer ready.

"I don't like to see you guys running after cars like this and chasing us. You could get hurt doing your job," the 43-year-old said as the press conference drew to a close.

"I don't want to see you guys standing outside my house all day, that is why I called all of you home," he said.

As he got up to go, Khan had one final request.

"If any of your colleagues have missed this press conference, please share the information with them."

Now that's the first time I have heard any star say that. Join us in wishing Shah Rukh Khan a speedy recovery.

SRK discharged, out of action for two months

18 Feb 2009, 0256 hrs IST, Meena Iyer & Bharati Dubey, TNN
Times of India

MUMBAI: Actor Shah Rukh Khan, who underwent a shoulder surgery on Monday at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, was discharged 24 hours later.

Addressing the media at his bungalow, Mannat, the actor -- who had his arm in a sling and was accompanied by supervising physician Ali Irani -- said: "I'm in pain but I wanted to be home with my kids. That's why I requested the doctors to discharge me soon.''

The actor also told the media that he wasn't going to be allowed too many visitors for the next fortnight for fear of infection and he was expected to rest his shoulder for at least a couple of months.

"I will use this period to supervise scripts for my production house and even spend time helping my children with their studies,'' he said.

Thanking his fans, the actor said, "I'm hoping to be back, bouncing around with the usual energy. I've had even more major surgeries in the past, like the spinal chord one, and have come through.''

Khan started his physiotherapy soon after he was discharged from the hospital. Irani said: " I gave him his first session of phyisotherapy and he is doing well. We have started with his wrist and elbow and it will take at least 10-15 days before we start working on his shoulder. We will follow the protocol given to him by shoulder specialist Sanjay Desai.''

SRK out of action for 2 months

Shah Rukh Khan is known for his high levels of energy. But when we met him at his house on Tuesday, we were struck by how tired he was looking. Just out of bed, he was dressed in a black jacket and had his arm in a sling. He spoke to us about his surgery and what he plans to do with all the free time he now has...

How long will it be before you can get back to work?

I have been told to rest for at least 60 days. In any case, I would not have been able to work because of the pain. Also, I can't take off the sling for two months. So, it seems like I will only start shooting after that.

Wouldn't it be better for you to move to a hospital?

Actually, I think it is better to be home. My family will take care of me and people can visit me here. I feel safe in my own home and my doctor has also been taking care of me here.

Will you be allowed to do any kind of stunts after you recover?

They have asked me not to use my arm too much. Even my exercise regime is very strict now. I'm not allowed to do much weight training because it will affect my shoulder.

Why did you choose Indian doctors this time?

Well, I think we have the best in India in every field these days. The last operation I had was done abroad but I have realised we have everything in India so I had this operation here. And, it was actually more fun because the doctors had such a good time taking pictures with me. That is something international doctors will not do! (Laughs). More seriously, I wanted to be close to my children. Now that their exams are close, I can help them study.

What you will do with all this free time?

Well, I will work on developing stories. And my house is big enough for me to wander around and entertain myself. Plus, my kids and wife are around. I will spend time with them and allow them to do some seva for me!

Will this injury find its way into your autobiography?

I don't know. I haven't really thought about it, but I think my spine operation was worse than this. It was a lot more painful, so let's see.

Any message for fans who are praying for you?

Thank you for all your prayers. The way I see it, I am their employee! My life is dedicated to entertaining all of you. I will do my best to get well and get back to doing that.
