Indian Idol Prashant Tamang forays into acting

MUMBAI: Prashant Tamang who grabbed the coveted Indian Idol title in 2007, is all set to make his debut in films. The 24-year-old police constable will feature in a Nepali movie which will be made on his life.

Prashant was born in Tungsung village in Darjeeling district of India's West Bengal state and received massive support from his fans during last year's Indian Idol show. Besides Prashant, the other stars include Nepali film industry's most charismatic hero Rajesh Hamal, action hero Ramit Dhungana and sultry actress Jharana Thapa. The script is written by the Prashant Tamang himself and talks about his struggle and eventual victory. However, the title of the film is yet to be decided. The film deals with struggles that Prashant Tamang had faced to win the television reality show. Debutant Dinesh Raj Sharma would be directing the film.

The proposed movie will be shot in Sikkim and Darjeeling and parts of it would be shot in Nepal. The shooting for the film is expected to begin by February, 2009 after Prashants contract ends. The movie will have songs from Prashant and Udit Narayan who was one of the 'Indian Idol' judges.
