'Hum Ladkiyan' - A new show on Sony

Sony's going the small town way. Turning its back to the uber metro based stories, the channel is getting into the groove of showcasing the life in a small town in latest show, 'Hum Ladkiyan' that takes the viewers into the heartlands of Benares.

The promos are already in the air and they sure do look good... A la bit of a 'Parineeta' style, but then, after a daily diet of watching the 'Tulsi' and lighted lamps, the serene Ganges is like a whiff of fresh air on the channel.

So what is the small town tale all about? The show is based on the story of four girls from Banaras. These girls are best friends and their families are also bonded to each other. The families reside in a same lane. The story begins from the banks of Ganges and trails the lives of these four girls - their dreams, their moments, their emotional bonding...

A daily, with a time slot of 8.30 p.m, the show is likely to hit the channel in October. What remains to be seen, is, if the fiction show would indeed make a mark on the channel or will it breeze in and out without making a difference?

Strike Called Off

After 10 days the producers' strike has finally been called off. And all telly fans can heave a sigh of relief as the production houses will resume filming tonight itself so that fresh episodes can be aired from Monday onwards. We spoke to the vice president of the producer's association, Dheeraj Kumar, who heads Creative Eye a production house.

"For us the first good news is that the strike has been called off with appropriate decision. There were two worker unions involved in this issue. And now everyone have agreed over two things - job security meaning they will get insurance facilities as well as the fact that they will be under a one month contract which was not the case initially. Earlier they used to loose their jobs in 4-5 days without any notice or anything. However this will not happen after they will sign the contract," informs Dheeraj.

"Second thing is the hike issue. Now we have spoken to them about the current economical situation and they have agreed on a small rise in the percentage of hikes which will be 10 to 15 %," adds Kumar.

"The next issue was that the producers wanted a hike in their contract price from channels as well. So now an agreement has been brought about where they will first reduce their production cost … like if one episode was taking 3 days to shoot now the production house will try to finish that episode in one and half day so that is how they themselves will not face any burden and they will not ask for more money to broadcasters also."

The shooting for all the shows will start from tomorrow (Thursday November 20 2008) and the channels will air new episodes from Monday (November 24 2008).

Alka out; Karan Mehra steps in Hum Ladkiyan

Sony's 'Hum Ladkiyan' is witnessing few changes. Firstly, lead actress Alka has been replaced by rookie actor Preethi Chaudhary. The other change comes in the form of actors Karan Mehra and Sonika Sahay entering the show.

A source from the production house informs, "Karan Mehra is playing the role of a business tycoon. The name of his character is Yuvraj Goel. Sonika Sahay, who has acted in shows like 'Saath Phere' and 'Parrivaar' is playing Karan Mehra's sister. The name of her character is Naina Goel. She will be playing a negative role. Toshika Verma who plays the role of Alka (one of the four protagonists) is out of the show. Debutant Preethi Chaudhary is replacing her. All these entries will be shown in different episodes. Sonika, Preethi and Karan will enter on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday respectively."

When asked why Toshika was replaced, our source says, "She was in a conflict with the production house. Her replacement was planned few weeks ago and casting for the same was going on since two weeks."

Meanwhile, Toshika Verma had this to say, "It is just that I didn't want to continue so I opted out. Things did not work out between me and the production house. I thought it is better to call it quits before things go from bad to worse."

Confirming the news, producer Aniruddh Pathak says, "We as a production house have our own professional requirement and she as an actor has hers own. Sometimes production houses fail to meet these requirements and sometimes it's the actor. So it happens from both the sides. It was a mutual decision to part ways. There are no heart feelings or any conspiracy theory."
