The actual story of the brothers getting attacked by swayamvar kings is from Ananda Ramayana, which is believed by many people to be Ramayana (also written by Valmiki) that deals with a lot of background/extra stories.
Lakshman has a big role in this story, which I hope SKR shows properly.

In the original story which is from Ananda Ramayana, many years pass after the marriage of the four brothers and sisters. Janak performs a yagna for which he invites his daughters and sons-in-law. On the way to Mithila (or on the way back, I don't know), the Kings of Sita's swayamvar who've been bidding their time decide to attack the royal party to exact their revenge for their apparent humiliation at the swayamvar. Ram and his brothers fight the Kings themselves, leaving their army in the camp to protect the womenfolk. All the Kings are defeated by the brothers, but in the process Bharat gets injured by an arrow and becomes unconscious due to loss of blood. Ram orders Lakshman to get some herbs from nearby Mudgal Rishi's ashram. Mudgal Rishi is in meditation and doesn't hear Lakshman's request for the herbs, so Lakshman gets them without his permission. The herbs do not work and Lakshman admits to Ram that he got them without the sage's permission, so Ram returns to the sage, apologizes on behalf of his brother, and requests him to revive Bharat. Mudgal Rishi forgives Lakshman and revives Bharat with the herbs. Afterwards, they all return to Ayodhya.

It is a must watch dear , as it is 300 episodes long , So urmila does get some importance .

major highlights for urmila point of view :

1. Urmila getting impressed at lakshman's outburst during swayambhar and her tension when he confronts parshuram

2. Her coming to pushpa vatika to get his glimpse .

3 Lakshman's rejecton of Urmila for marriage and her convincing him

4. Touching scenes when lakshman is leaving her behind

5. Urmila's pain on seeing bharat return empty handed

6. Urmila's descision to sleep on floor and light a diya everyday for 14 years for her husband.

7. Urmila's anguish on learning about lakshman and indrajit battle , and her confrontation with bharat.

8. The 3 queens praising urmila for her sacrifice and kakeye asking forgiveness from her

9.. Wonderful scenes when all return from exile.
