Exactly!!

If CVs handle this properly and attempt to change mindsets regarding InterSex and prove that yes they can get married, have a proper life..then hats off to them. They should not promote Kinnar thing but promote that she is Intersex.

Exactly!!
People know kinnar as transgender!
These new promos of bahu's supporting
Kinnar people! I'm thinking she isn't kinnar!
Her dad and granny tried to bury her as a baby!
The baby wasn't born a boy and miraculously
Said hey dad, mum... I want to be a girl :/ ...
She was born with both genders! There needs to be another name for
Intersex people in South Asian countries!

Thanks for the detailed info in the post .x-bumblebee-x
I don't remember any hindi show in recent times going with such a concept. The writers, if they are planning this, have done a good job. We need sensitivity and understanding with respect to intersex people.

But given the production house (and their many shows - more on conservative lines), I'm a little skeptical of how they would handle this story line.

I am not sure if there is any different term for kinnar in India. Thats why its creating confusion as we tend to call transgender & intersex both as kinnar/hizra! But they're not same. Intersex people can live normal lives after a simple operation where they have to one of their sex organs, depending on they want to remain male or female. Transgender comes from "Transforming Gender" so obviously they were born as different gender.

I don't follow the show but i am a psychiatrist and I hope this information helps the fans of the show who are unable to understand the character and the concept.. (judging from the tellybuzz article from where I am copy pasting my post).. not my intention to offend anyone..
nobody is born a "transgender", one grows up to identify more with the opposite gender and dislikes own gender..there is no way physically to know that one is a transgender unless one chooses to dress up and behave like the opposite gender and is unable to do so completely..which is why there are sex-change treatments and surgeries..so this particular character cannot be a "transgender" and be unaware of it while her parents know it..
"Intersex" on the other hand is an anatomical issue..medically speaking, from what I understood from this article, this character probably suffers from a "mullerian duct anomoly".. her ovaries are fine, which is why she has normal female hormones and characteristics, but her external genitalia is underdeveloped..she probably has an inadequate uterus due to which there might be fertility issues.. all of which MAYBE surgically corrected, tho the extent of it will depend on the level of anomoly..there is no question of her being pretty or attracted to her husband coz she is a female, genetically and psychologically..
And also for everybody's information, it doesn't mean that all intersex disorders cause the patient to look abnormal..there is something called "testicular feminization disorder" where a genetical male has no receptors for action of testosterone and can look like the world's most beautiful woman!! Coz all the testosterone is converted to estrogen..the human body is fascinating and compensates as much as it can..let us move beyond the societal barriers..
I hope this show doesn't make a joke of a serious medical problem to gain trps off it..
