UNDER THE SKY LANTERNS - PART 30

The buzz of the restaurant and the clang of cutlery against crockery seem to drown out in the awkwardness of the situation.
Sid is increasingly uncomfortable and aware of Roli's hand on his.
Roli on the other hand has no clue what to do or say. She wants to console him, tell him that it's okay. But is it?
She opens her mouth wondering what to say.
Siddhant tenses up at her gesture. She's going to tell me something, he thinks nervously.
Just then...
REMO: Well! Well! Look who's here!
Siddhant quickly pulls his hand off.
Roli grins sheepishly.
It's Remo and Vimla, their colleagues. The duo pulls out chairs and prepares to sit down.
VIMLA: Can we join you guys?
ROLI: Sure! Anytime! Why even ask?
Siddhant smiles.
Remo and Vimla sit down.
REMO: Late lunch for us today! Requirements have started to pour in.
ROLI: How's it going?
REMO: Not bad so far. I'm expecting an interview to happen by the beginning of next week.
ROLI: That sounds positive. All the best!
REMO: (clears his throat) Thank you - Thank you!
Roli giggles.
Suddenly, Vimla waves at someone outside the restaurant. It's another woman of her age.
Remo watches her intently.
VIMLA: Guys, I'll be right back. I'll just meet her and come.
ROLI: Sure. No problem.
REMO: What about lunch?
VIMLA: You place the order.
REMO: But what?
VIMLA: Anything doofus.
REMO: Anything? How about a nice green salad and grilled chicken?
VIMLA: Ho-ho. Very funny. I want food.
REMO: This is food.
VIMLA: For a body builder like you. I need real food. (begins to walk away) I'll be right back. And order something nice. Or I'll bang you.
Roli and Siddhant laugh as Vimla walks out of the door.
ROLI: (laughs) You guys are so sweet.
REMO: Yeah. We sound like we're married already.
Remo watches Vimla nervously. They can see her standing outside and chatting away to glory with her friend.
REMO: (quickly digs into his pockets) I need to show you guys something.
ROLI: What is it?
Remo pulls out an elegant red box from his pocket and opens it. A beautiful ring studded with a large blood-red Ruby.
Roli and Siddhant gape in amazement.
ROLI: Wow! That's so beautiful!
Remo takes quick glances at Vimla to make sure that she isn't watching them.
REMO: Saw that?
ROLI: Yeah.. but...
Remo quickly stuffs it back into his pocket.
REMO: Sorry! It's a surprise! I don't want her to know!
ROLI: Who?
Remo looks over at Vimla and back at RoSid.
ROLI: Whoa. Hang on. Be straight. What's the catch?
REMO: (takes a deep breath) Okay. The thing is ... we have been seeing each other for a while.
SIDDHANT: You and Vimla?
REMO: Yeah.
Roli leans back excitedly and claps her hands quietly.
ROLI: (quietly) Yayyy...
Siddhant laughs at Roli's reaction.
REMO: For around a year...
ROLI: A year? And you never even told us about it?
REMO: Yeah (laughs). In fact, I joined this company just to...
His words trail away as he begins to blush.
ROLI: Just to be with her?
Remo nods, blushes.
SIDDHANT: (laughs) Aww man.
REMO: I was actually lucky that I got through the interview, would have been really disappointing otherwise.
SIDDHANT: Does she know?
REMO: I think she has a doubt. I haven't told her anything yet, but that's what I want to do. I want to propose her. I mean... not just tell her that I love her. But I want to ask her to marry me.
Roli is blushing like crazy now.
ROLI: (cups her face and giggles) Hey Matarani. This is so wow!
REMO: But the thing is... I'm a bit nervous. What if she says no?
ROLI: She won't if you give her a proposal she can't refuse.
REMO: How?
ROLI: Okay, the classic going down on your knees and proposing' thing is fine. But we need to add some spice to put her into the mood. Get what I mean?
REMO: Yeah, but how?
Siddhant watches Roli intently as she gives tips and suggestions on how to be romantic.
Hmm, thinks Siddhant, so this is something which she'd probably like too.
ROLI: Take her to some romantic place in the evening after sunset. A candle light dinner, some warm music, star gazing, (her face brightens up as she remembers something) take her to the creek. Yes!
REMO: (looks dreamy) The creek. Yeah, it looks beautiful at night.
ROLI: It sure does! With the city lights flickering on the face of the waters! The stars smiling down at you! The moon! (sighs deeply)
Siddhant watches Roli slip into her romantic fantasy' world.
Remo is lost in his own dream land.
ROLI: And then... when she's fully into it... propose her!
REMO: But will she come with me?
ROLI: Why not?
REMO: What if she suspects?
Roli is quiet.
REMO: I've got an idea. Let's go out together for an outing. Just the four of us.
SIDDHANT: Us?
REMO: Yeah. That way she won't have any doubts. It's the weekend anyways!
Roli is thoughtful.
REMO: So, what do you say?
ROLI: Sure. Let's go. What say Siddhant?
Siddhant looks uncomfortable.
SIDDHANT: But...
ROLI: Come on. It'll be fun! We can also record the proposal. (giggles)
SIDDHANT: Well... I...
ROLI: No buts and wells. We're going! It's final! Count us in Remo!
Suddenly...
VIMLA: Going where?
The three of them are stunned to see Vimla at close range. When did she come in? They never even saw her walk in! Did she hear their plans?
