Hello guys, some of you probably know this by now, maybe a lot of you. Yes, hereafter I won't be continuing on IF. Before I even say another word, I must thank Anila and Prasanna for bringing me out here... introducing my stories to you guys. Honestly, I never knew about IF before.Thank you so much Anila and Prasanna, love you guys for the support and encouragement you've always shown. 🤗I was in fact very happy when you guys started enjoying my work and started to share it out here. And I'll always be thankful for that. But I never realized that someone in the limelight out here felt challenged. To be honest, competition was never on my mind. I only wanted to share the world through my eyes, that's it. I wanted to keep you guys entertained. Make you laugh, smile, cry...I'm a writer, not just here, but even by profession. And I believe in professionalism. I am someone who encourages and praises other artists equally. I'm not the kind of person who tries to pull the others down.I am someone who believes that every shining sun has to set. I may shine today, but may not be the same tomorrow. Someone else will have to take over. That's how it's supposed to be. And I will happily accept it. My only intention is to create memorable stories and films that many will enjoy for the years to come.So henceforth, I won't be posting on IF. However, I will be on my page as usual. Those of you who'd still love to follow can find it here:https://www.facebook.com/pages/Roli-Siddhant/822345567787701I'm also happy to have made many friends on IF and I'll always remember the way you followed me and encouraged me. I'll never forget the way you people enjoyed... and sometimes even got angry when things got out of hand. 😆Thank you so much again for all the love, support, respect and encouragement. I love you all. 😃
UNDER THE SKY LANTERNS - PART 28
An original story by Archana Vinod
BHARADWAJ HOUSE - FOUR DAYS LATER
An air of despair rules. Mataji is deeply worried as she slumps onto the couch and buries her face in her hands. Her eyes are masked with dark circles.
SIDDHANT: (narration) Very soon, the news was out. Emerging industrialist Rajendar Bharadwaj's only son is missing. My parents flew down from the US to find me, but...
A car pulls up outside and Rajendar checks in.
Sujata and Mataji look up at him hopefully.
SIDDHANT: (narration) I was nowhere to be found...
10 year old Siddhant's picture gets published in all the leading dailies. A fat reward is promised to the one who finds him.
Cops scour the city.
Posters announcing a reward for finding Siddhant are stuck up on walls.
But... he is nowhere to be found.
Rajendar consoles a shattered Sujata.
SUJATA: (cries) Hey Matarani! Where is my boy? What if something happened to him?
RAJENDAR: No Sujata, don't think like that. Nothing will happen to our son. I know he's well and fine somewhere. I know he is...
Despite his assuring words, Rajendar is desperately irresolute. What IF something happened to him? What if he... died?
TWO DAYS LATER, SOMEWHERE IN THE CITY - DUSK
Dark clouds dominate the evening skies. Thunder rumbles in the air.
Giant trees sway threateningly in the howling gale.
Fat drops of rain plummets down the city streets.
People run for cover. Some brave the rain.
The homeless settle down under the double-lane flyover, work up a fire and warm up around it.
Shrouded in darkness and away from the storm, a boy sleeps peacefully next to the giant pillar of the flyover. It's Siddhant. The gale blows up rain drops over his face. He wakes up with a start to find a homeless boy staring curiously at him.
Siddhant quickly sits up startled. He goggles fearfully at the boy for a moment before crawling out of there. The hunger, fatigue and longing to be home are unbearable.
A LOUD CLAP of thunder makes him jump out of his skin.
He is forced to retreat for a moment, but... terrifying images of the hostel and his treacherous warden come flooding back into his mind.
No, he thinks, I must go home... fast!
BACK AT BHARADWAJ HOUSE
Rajendar hangs up the phone looking deeply troubled. He fights the unbearable need to break down and cry.
SUJATA: What did they say Rajendarji?
RAJENDAR: (in a low voice) They're going to give up the search. It's been too long now.
Sujata's eyes brim up with painful tears. Rajendar pulls her into his arms and begins to drown in sorrow.
RAJENDAR: Don't give up yet Sujata. Our son will return one day. Have faith.
OUT ON THE STREETS - LATE EVENING
The rain has died down.
It's much darker now.
Drenched to the bone, Siddhant trudges along the side of the street. He stops a passer-by in his 60's.
SIDDHANT: Uncle... do you know the way to my home?
PASSER-BY: (confused) Where is your home beta?
SIDDHANT: I don't know...
PASSER-BY: Then how will I get you there? Achcha, at least do you know the address?
SIDDHANT: No...
PASSER-BY: Then what to do now?
SIDDHANT: (begins to cry) I don't know...
The passer-by is thoughtful.
PASSER-BY: What's your Papa's name?
SIDDHANT: Rajendar Bharadwaj.
BHARADWAJ HOUSE - LATE NIGHT
The doorbell rings.
Rajendar hurries to the door and opens it.
He finds a man in his 60's at the door with...
RAJENDAR: (shocked) Siddhant!!!
SIDDHANT: (runs into his father's arms) Papa!!!
Rajendar sweeps his son off the ground and pulls him into his tight embrace determined never to let go. Never again... He weeps in profuse joy as he hugs his trembling son.
By now, the rest of the family knows and stumbles out of their rooms in shock and astounding happiness. Siddhant is finally back!!! Unscathed! Unharmed!
... TO BE CONTINUED
