Suhana's Corner: Are on-screen characters so real?
Hi everyone, I have been increasingly disturbed by the effect my on-screen character is having on people in general and my family in particular. How can we get impressed by the on-screen characters so easily? |
There comes a time when the on-screen characters are identified so deeply that viewers feel they are real. They form a life of their own and the viewers sometimes refuse to believe that they don't actually exist. This is the dilemma I have been facing for the past week or so.
First, I wasn't feeling comfortable enacting the character of Gauri because she takes on all the insults and ill-treatment by her family, her husband and MIL. But my director told me that it is just a job. But slowly, I started feeling the subtle changes happening all around me. I was very disturbed to see Meethi dressing up like Gauri and expressing her desire to become like her when she grows up. Then, a family from Meerut came with a marriage proposal for me. OMG, I was shocked! I mean how literally people can take reel life to be.
I had a discussion with Badi Maa and Ishaan, and she told me to ask the director to change the storyline. I have also refused to deliver the dialogues that Gauri had been saying all this while. I have made up my mind and Suhana does what she wants.
What do you think? Should I go ahead and change the storyline and character of Gauri or leave the serial altogether? Do write to me at suhana@starplus.in.
