The New Girl

Chapter-2 The Vow

Pavi was not as beautiful as Gopi or Rashi but there was a certain charm in her personalty that was clearly visible. The way she carried herself throughout her life can be seen on her face. A face with such a glow that noone can ignore it.

Her harsh life had taught her everything. She was smart and really quick at understanding people. And it was no surprise that after spending two days at Modi Bhawan she could feel what was going on.

She knew that there is some tension between Gopi and Ahem. Everytime she watched Gopi with Ahem she knew that Gopi is a little uncomfortable. But she couldn't figure out what was it.

She also saw a strange disconnect between Kokila and Hetal.

But Rashi's behaviour was troubling her even more. She was not getting the right vibe from her. She felt really uncomfortable around her. And she decided to talk to Baa about this.

"Baa, kya mai ander aau?"

"Arey aa bahi..ye bhi koi puchane ki baat hai"

"Kya kar rahi the Baa aap?"

"Ab is umer mai karne ko baki kya reh jaata hai..bas baithe rehti hu aur jaap karti hu. Tu bata..itne saalo baad aayi hai..tera man lag raha hai yaa nahi"

"Bilkul mann lag raha hai baa"

"Aur teri Gopi aur Rashi se kaise ban rahi hai? Dono tera dhyaan rakhti hai yaa nahi?"

"Dono bahut acchi hai Baa..Gopi bahut he sunder aur susheel hai..aur Rashi bhi. Dono se khoob baatey hoti hai aur wo mera bahut dhyan rakhti hai."

Baa started to stare at Pavi. She knew that something was troubling her.

"Pavi tum yaha to thee nahi shaadi ke time par to tumhe kaise pata hoga..?"

"Kya baat hai Baa'Kya hua?"

For Baa, Pavi was like a family member so she told everything about Ahem and Jigar's marriage. How Ahem used to treat Gopi, how Rashi got caught and thrown out. Everything

Pavi couldn't believe what Baa was saying. She was so close to Modi family that she felt really bad after hearing all this. She sat near Baa and placed her head on her lap. Baa stroke her hair lightly. Baa knew that Pavi would feel bad about this but it was necessary to tell her all this.

"Meri taraf dekh Pavi beta. Ye kya..teri aankhe kyu geeli ho gayee. Ary tune to isse bhi badi mushkilo kaa saamna liya hai..phir ye to choti see baat hai?"

"Par Baa..itna sab kuch ho gaya..aur."

"Aur kuch naa kuch to hota he rahega. Yahi jindagi kaa dastoor hai. Kya waqt kisi ke liya ruka hai..to hum kyu ruke..hum kyu haath pe haath rakhke baithe rahe"

Pavi was looking at Baa..trying to figure out what she was trying to say.

"Dekh beta, Kokila aur Hetal kaa to chalta rahega. Wo apna kissa aap suljha lengi. Magar ye Gopi-Ahem aur Rashi-Jigar abhi naadan hai..inko sahi disha deekhane ki jarorat hai"

Pavi started to realize what Baa was trying to say and Baa knew that Pavi'll refuse to do anything about it.

"Dekh beta'meri to umer ho gayee hai..ab to kai baar theek se bol bhi nahi paati, chalna to door ki baat hai'pata nahi kab uper wale kaa bulava.."

"Khabardar Baa!! Dubara kabhi apne aisa bola hai to dekh lena.."

"Arey beta jo sach hai wo sach hai..tu"

"Nahi mai nahi manti..aisa bolna band kijeeye nahi to mai yaha se chali jaaungi, aur phir kabhi laut kar nahi aaungi"

Pavi literally started crying..

"Accha baba accha aisa nahi bolti'magar kya tu mera ek kaam nahi kar sakti?"

Now Pavi was sure what Baa was trying to say.

"Baa waqt badal chuka hai. Ab hum koi bache nahi rahe.."

"Ahh..thoda bahut bachpana to mujhme bhi hai.."

"Baa majak mat karo..ab mai kya kar sakti hu isme? "

"Uski chinta tu mat kar..bas jaisa mai bolu tu karti jaa."

"Dekho Baa, Jigar aur Ahem ab shaadi shuda hai..mera unki life ke beech mai aana kaise accha lagega, meri dosti kharab ho jaaygi unke saath"

"arey aisa kuch nahi hoga'wo dono teri bahut izzat karte hai, teri kisi baat kaa bura nahi manege"

"Par Baa.."

"Ab tu iske aage ek sabd nahi bolgei'isko meri aakhri iccha samjh le."

"Accha theek hai app bolo aur mai sunti hu..aap jaisa kahengi waisa karungi."

"Dekh pehle bari bade bhai ki phir chote ki. Tujhe pelhe Gopi aur Ahem ko najdeek lana hoga phir Rashi aur Jigar ko."

"Baa..meri to samjh mai ye tal nahi aata ki aakhir inke beech mai chal kya raha hai..aur inki samsya kya hai?"

"Are pagli phir mai kis liye hu. Dekh majra kuch aisa hai ki Gopi Ahem se pyaar karti hai..Ahem bhi gopi se pyar karta hai' Tujhe to pata lag chuka hoga ki Gopi kitni sharmali hai wo chahti hai ki pehal Ahem kare. 'magar pata nahi Ahem ko kya ho gaya hai"

Pavi chuckled..

"Kya hua Baa Ahem ko?"

"arey wo bolta he nahi..wo chahe to Gopi uske liye kuch bhi kar de par Gopi ko samne dekhte he uski bolti band ho jaati hai"

Pavi's chuckled turned into laughter.

"Baa Ahem aisa to nahi tha.."

"Arey beta wo bahut ghabrata hai, ki kahi uski vajah se gopi ko dukh naa pauche, wo uski itni parwah karta hai ki kuch bol he nahi pata uske saamne."

"To Baa ab mai isme kaise madat karu aapki?"

"Bas tujhe jaa kar Ahem se baat karni hogi, usko samjhana hoga'kya bolna hai..aur kaise bolna hai ye mai tere par chodti hu"

"Baa, ye kaam to aap bhi kar sakti hai."

"arey nahi..samjh. Tu bolegi to farak padega. Tu unki hum umar hai...wo teri baat jyaada dhyaan se sunega. Meri baat ko to taal deta hai.

"Nahi Baa...ye mai.."

Baa took her hand and placed on her head.

"Tujhe meri kasam hai'mai jo bolungi tujhe karna hoga"

Pavi was stunned. She couldn't utter a single word.

"Tujhe meri kasam Pavi..ye kaam to tujhe mere liye karna he padega."

"Baa'"

"Tujhe Ahem aur Jigar dono ki madad karni hogi...khaa meri kasam."

"Theek hai baba theek hai...mai madad karungi aapki. Magar kya Ahem se baat karne se sab theek ho jaayega kya?."

"Bilkul hoga beta..kyu nahi hoga. Mai ahem ko tere se behtar tarike se jaanti hu."

"Aur Baa Jigar kaa kya..uski aur Rashi ki kya samsya hai"

"Beta unki samsaya to aur bhi gambhir hai..aur tujhe thodi mehnat karni padegi unko nazdeek lane ke liye"

"Baa, pata nahi mujhe ye bolna chahiye yaa nahi par kya Rashi...?"

Baa knew what Pavi was thinking...

"Arey beta Pyaar bada nirdayee hota hai. Isne aaj tak kisi ko choda hai kyaa. Ye acche bure mai koi bhed bhav nahi karta'jindagi mai sabko ek baar pyaar to hota he hai, phir ye Rashi kis khet ki muli hai? Wo bhi naa bachi hai isse."

"To aapko lagta hai Rashi Jigar se pyaar karti hai?"

"Haa bilkul karti hai. Lekin bawari ko iska abhi tak ehsaas nahi hua hai. Aur tujhe wahi karna hoga, Rashi ko aehsaas dilana hoga ki wo bhi Jigar se pyaar karti hai."

"Aur wo mai kaise karungi Baa?"

"Wo mai tujhe baad mai baataungi, pehle mere Ahem dikare kaa to kaam kar de."

Pavi stood up'she kissed on Baa's forehead..

"Bilkul Baa'bilkul karungi'mai chalti hu..mujhe badi neend aa rahi hai"

"Haa bilkul beta..tu aaram kar'kafi thak jaati hogi naa tu, office kaa kaam phir ghar kaa kaam aur ab maine bhi tukhe ek kaam soap diya hai..."

Baa and Pavi smiled. She wished goodnight and went straight to her room. And she opened her Diary..

"Har din badi mushkil se kat raha hai. Apne dil ko kaabu mai rekhna itna mushkil ho jaayega ye socha he nahi tha maine. Aur ab uper se Baa ne kasam dilwa di. Ab Baa kaa kaam karne ke liye mujhe uske kareeb to jaana he padege, bas dar ye hai ki kahi mai'.Umeed karti hu ki audit jaldi khatam ho mai ghar wapas jaa saku."

She closed her Diary and went to sleep, determined to help Ahem and Jigar. Not for herself or for them but just for Baa.
