L ocation: Shyam Narayan School at Kandivli. The producers of Star Plus' long-running afternoon show Saarthi are introducing its lead players. Cast for the day: Zalak Thakkar is replacing Neha Devi Singh, who plays the show's pro- tagonist Bhumika. Both actress- es seem to be in a mutual admi- ration mode, probably in a bid to prove that the hand-over has been amicable. Anang Desai, Renuka Israni and child artiste Ishan Dev are part of the family to be introduced on the show. Storyteller: Bhumika Goen- ka (Neha) has been wounded be- yond recognition in an acci- dent. A miraculous escape (Lord Krishna intervenes to send her back on Earth) and some plastic surgery later, she acquires a new face and is played by Zalak. She's now at her house, as a widow with a child and a handsome young man to woo her. Changing faces: Says ac- tress Devi Singh, "I wanted a break from the show for pro- fessional and personal reasons. This is a welcome change. Saarthi is like my baby and I want the best for it". Nervous about her new part, Thakkar, an actress from Ahmedabad says, "It's going to be tough yet challenging to play Bhumika because Neha is a fine actress and I have to measure up to her." About the show Saarthi is about the conflict I between two brothers and their families. Though it is not based on Mahabharata, one cannot ignore the strong underlying similarities in the script. It is an attempt to recreate the I epic with modern characters and contemporary conflicts. Saarthi has successfully I completed 500 episodes. The USP of the show is the role of Lord Krishna, who is part of each character's story conflicts.
