Firstly, blame it on Himesh's language skills. His usage of the words "hyped" (He did not say over-hyped, BTW) was not in the correct context. What he meant probaly was, Raja has a lot of buzz all around. That's it.
Now, the second part - does he deserve all the attention he is getting? The answer is in the simple fact - What has he done personally to garner all that attention?
Mauli is a stunner for many. If you ignore her singing, she still is someone, I would watch (perhaps not hear). She gets her attention.
Aneek has his Indian Idolike "incidents". Getting stripped, coaxed into proposing Dia Mirza. He gets the attention.
Ms. Yadav, spelt out her background last week. My sympathies are with her. So are sympathies of millions. She got the attention she deserved.
And Raja? What has he done apart from singing? He sang, he answered questions humbly. He accepted decisions going against him, nary a complaint.
The answer to all your wisdom is, never demand attention. And then it comes to you.
I run Raja's website and am a student of psephology. And I can assure everyone in this forum that shows like Saregamapa are not singing contests. They are about how well the contestant relates to you. Remember Advani's feel-good factor?
There are a thousand better singers than Raja. But not one, who makes an impact with humility as Raja does.
I asked my brother on why he prefered voting for Raja - and his answer was something that simply summarises Raja's "hype" - saale mein akkad nahin hai.
Good luck.
