Himesh: Sum of his luck

Himesh
That Himesh Reshammiya keeps adding personal effects to his look, never ceases to surprise.

Remember the jacket, or that unmissable cap (wonder if he ever takes it off)?

Here's a new addition— a clutch of beads and threads and amulets and pendants with stones round his neck (a la Ekta).

Lucky charms to keep that nasal twang intact, we presume.

Hats on for Himesh!
By IndiaFM News Bureau, November 29, 2005 - 01:52 IST
Bollywood stars are known for their fixation with good luck charms. The latest to join the club is the music director of the moment, Himesh Reshammiya. Post Aashiq Banaya Aapne, the director has been seen only in one ensemble, i.e. denim clothing with a cap. When asked, the musician confessed that his cap was his good luck charm. He had the same look in the video of Aashiq Banaya Aapne and the song proved to be one of the biggest hits of the year. So now, we won't be seeing Mr. Himesh sans his cap. With crores of rupees riding on the music of a movie, we don't blame him!

Incidentally, post his recent success, he has also been offered a deal to endorse a certain product. Though talks are on, it is too early for him to reveal anything. And like always, we will let you know, as soon as we do!

Himesh Reshammiya is unfazed by his detractors!

By Manissha Despaande, Bollywood Trade News Network

His new found fame and his success as a singer cum music director, has won him a lot of enemies but music director, Himesh Reshammiya, is unperturbed by the critical backlash of some of his colleagues in the music industry. "I am neither hurt nor disturbed by the occasional backbiting and criticism, from some of my colleagues. By and large, the music industry has been very supportive towards my success. It is just that some people are a bit surprised by the fact that a music director who is also a singer, has walked away with all the success. "It is probably for the first time in the music industry that a music director has also been awarded for singing but it is not as if I am a singer by fluke. I have trained in classical music from my father for several years before I got the desired effect in my voice. Of the many songs that I have recorded so far, whether it is for my album, 'Aap Ka Suroor' or film music, there's not a single song that hasn't topped the charts. AKSAR is my 28th album and the acceptance has been phenomenal so far," Reshammiya defends his success.

More recently he was the target of attack when Anu Malik refused to share the credit with him, after he recorded a sensational number for a T-series production, HUMKO DEEWANA KAR GAYE. An outraged Malik spoke to the media about the incident and clearly said that he would not entertain anyone else unethically invading his terrain. Reshammiya admits to being totally taken aback after reading about Malik's outburst. "It came as a big surprise to me since I had sought a no objection from Malik before proceeding to record for the film. It was only after the producer, Bhushan Kumar got it in writing that I recorded the song," he reveals, adding that he has been cautious about ethics throughout his career. "I have always made sure that I do not intrude anyone's territory, despite the several offers I keep getting. On the contrary, there were a couple of occasions where I had to share the credits with other music directors in PYAR KIYA TO DARNA KYA and HELLO BROTHER," he says.

In another instance, singer Sonu Nigaam recently expressed his reservations about Reshammiya sweeping away the awards for the best singer. He dismisses this off with a smile. "I respect Sonu for his great singing prowess and I'd be happy if he walks away with all the awards for the best singer. I can't help it if the audiences go ahead and make my songs a hit or the juries unanimously vote me as the best singer," he says.

Meanwhile, he continues with his record-breaking spree at the music charts. After AKSAR, it is now the number in TOM DICK AND HARRY that has become the latest sensation. Says Deepak Tijori, the director of the film, "He is the biggest craze and whatever he records invariable makes it to the charts. He's got this amazing sense of music."

Salman Khan to sing in Babul
By: Jhanvi Shah
March 20, 2006

Salman Khan
If one thought only Himesh Reshammiya could get Salman to sing, here's the latest dope on Salman Khan, the singer. Sallu is about to record a song for Aadesh Shrivastava.

Aadesh is already a big favourite among stars-turned-singers.

He got Kareena Kapoor to sing in Govind Nihalani's Dev. He's also the guy who gets Amitabh Bachchan to belt out ditties in film after film, including Babul.

Mike ready

The composer had been after Salman to sing in Ravi Chopra's film for quite some time now.

Says an insider, "Salman kept putting Aadesh off each time, saying, 'Arrey where I'll sing? I don't have the voice for it.' But Aadesh insisted he'd take care of everything. All Salman had to do was stand in front of the microphone."

Salman has earlier sung Himesh's number, Chandi ki daar par sone ka mor, in Sohail's Khan's Hello Brother. He agreed to sing in Babul because of his wonderful rapport with director Ravi Chopra and his unit. He plays
Rani Mukerji's husband in the film.

I've never met Priyadarshan: Deepika Padukone
Faheem Ruhani
Friday, April 14, 2006 11:12 IST

Deepika Padukone, the model from Bangalore, rebuts the news of her debut in Pirate

Is it true that you're making your film debut with Priyadarshan's Pirate?
I'm not doing any film with Priyadarshan. I don't know how, where and why such rumours originated.

Priyadarshan has announced this in the media.
I haven't ever met Mr Priyadarshan in my life. So the question of me doing a film with him doesn't arise at all. I guess there must have been some miscommunication.

Miscommunication between you and Priyadarshan?
No, miscommunication between Priyadarshan and the media.

Okay. What if he approaches you for the film?
I'll have to go through the script and accept it only if it excites me.

Are you doing Farah Khan's Happy New Year?
I don't want to discuss Farah's film.

What kind of scripts are you looking for?
I want to do roles which I won't regret doing in the future.

Have you gone through any acting training?
I did a three-month acting course with Anupam Kher.

What made you do the Aap ka Suroor video?
Himesh Reshammiya is a friend and I loved the song. Moreover, Himesh is a wonderful guy and the most popular music director today. He's doing 35 films at a time.

The video was a terrific experience and the response was terrific too.

Didn't your father Prakash Padukone want you to become a sportsperson?
Dad's very happy with whatever I'm doing. He has tremendous faith in me, he'll support me in whatever I do.

Do we see Deepika Padukone making her debut in 2006?
(Longish pause) Hopefully.

Abbas - Mustan and Himesh for Hum Raaz

Starting with Baazigar in 1993, Anu Malik has composed the music for all Abbas-Mustan films including Soldier and Ajnabee. This time, though, it is different. The director duo have chosen Himesh Reshammiya for their latest film, Hum Raaz.

Mustan quickly clarifies that their relationship with Anu Malik is as good as it gets. Of course they plan to work with him. So why did they switch over to Himesh? Because (producer) Ratan Jain of Venus wanted them to 'try out a new music director.' The director duo vibed very well with Himesh right from the word go, he says.

Himesh, though, is not very well known in Bollywood. He does have some good films like Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya and Hello BrotherI but they have not catapulted him to stardom nor have they got him great recognition. Himesh hopes that Hum Raaz will make him a household name and win him more offers in Bollywood.

The music, he says, is Indian with a western outlook (?) and Abbas says that they appreciated the effort that Himesh made on improvising the music. Four tracks for the film have already been recorded.

The music, hopefully, will grab the attention of fans. For Himesh, Hum Raaz is the ultimate acid test.

Reshammiya gets spiritual for Banaras

Sukanya Verma | March 20, 2006 20:35 IST

What happens when faith and spirituality collide with relationships and existentialism? Banaras - A mystic love story is said to explore this complex question.

Directed by Pankuj Parashar, the film features Urmila Matondkar, Naseerudin Shah, Raj Babbar, Dimple Kapadia and Ashmit Patel.

Agreed, the subject, setting and cast are exciting. But what is even more interesting is Parashar's choice of a mainstream music director like Himesh Reshammiya for the soundtrack. To his credit, the Aashiq Banaya singer-composer does forego his chartbuster image and treads a new track.
Urmila, back with Banaras
Ishq Mein Dilko is another slow paced, romance-filled melody. But, for all its starry-eyed charm, the song is not nearly addictive.
Holi may be over and done with, but the colours refuse to die down in Rang Dalo. Vibrancy booms in the voices of Shreya Ghosal and Sonu Nigam in this standard Holi number replete with burdensome beats and a boisterous chorus. Hindi film songs adhere to a tried and tested format for situational music. It's time someone broke the rules and created something unpredictable.

Pranab Kumar's classical recital of the popular thumri, Bajooband Khul Khul Jaaye is stimulating beyond words. It has previously been performed by the likes of Lata Mangeskar and Jagjit Singh to mesmerising effect.

Up next, Ghosal takes a safe route for Purab Se. Her rendition is delicate enough, but the song would have worked better if she had provided it some drama. The USP of Yeh Shaan Hai Banaras Ki is Sivamani's scintillating play of drums. Sanjeev Abhyankar's colourful and enlightening introduction of the city with many names (Kashi, Varanasi) goes in perfect tandem with the inspiring beats.
Although Reshammiya gets brownie points for trying to be different, he fails to capture the sacred rush of Banaras' air or the enigmatic profundity of spiritualism
