Artists, especially, music writers, directors and singers have been very sensitive people. Very moody. Very hard to work with. I remember from very early days when Anand Bakshi would be over for drinks (and he was not even known writer then), he would be very sensitive and leave at first argument that occurred. I sat and heard him do shairi until he would just abruptly leave.
There have been times when singers have said "Aaj cancel – mood nahin ban raha hai". So emotions, egoes, etc. play a very big role in their lives – too little self discipline. I guess it goes with the territory. ID portrayed just that recently. I was not surprised at all. Been there, seen it a million times. If you were in Latajee's shoes, with all the fame, fan following, it would be hard to control your ego too.
The best I remember RK had no rift with Latajee. RK knew very well what I wrote above. so he was overly tuned to making sure his artistes were happy and he would please them always. In fact, Satyam Shivam Sundaram was made by RK as a tribute to Latajee. Great voice and yet not so great looker!!
SO that would be the briefest answer I can give. No wonder I became an Engineer – no artist giri here.
Did Lata have a clash with Mukesh, Paving Mannada's entry into RK Films?
