I don't its fair to make Hemachandra's diction an issue just because he's from Hyderabad!!

In the first place, Hindi and Urdu are just as big in Hyderabad as Telegu. Anybody growing up in Hyderabad could be as well versed in Hindi as a person who grew up in Delhi or Mumbai.

Getting back to Hemachandra and diction… Being from South India myself, I am especially sensitive to this issue of diction. I never really enjoyed the singing of very talented singers like Yesudas, SPB or Hariharan in Hindi, because I could always feel the difference in diction. But, in Hemachandra's case, the problem is so negligible, that its not even worth mentioning. 90% of the time his diction is OK. Listen to him sing "Lekar hum diwana dil", "Aanewala pal" or even the remix of "Chod do aanchal". I bet if someone didn't know who was singing it, they would not find any problem in "diction"… Maybe Hem would not be a good choice for hard core Punjabi/Bhangra, or Sukwinder type songs, but he doesn't have to sing those… there are enough singers whose voices are perfect for that!!

People should not jump to the conclusion that South Indian singers cannot sing well in Hindi. Some of the most talented singers in Bollywood today are from S. India… for example: Kay Kay, Shankar Mahadevan, A. R. Rahman… I think ARR's singing in Hindi is fantastic (Dil se re, Yeh jo desh hai tera, Piya Haji Ali, Ma Tujhe Salaam, Chale chalo, etc…)

If anyone still believes that Hemachandra's diction is a problem, he will definitely proove them wrong !!!

You are right. It is a negligible problem at best. He does slip up occasionally on some syllables like the "ka" for "kha", but that can be remedied with practice...and he sure is a quick learner....look at the quick transformation in his looks!

Hi musicbuff,

Thanks for responding... You're right, that he has an occasional slip-up, but its not an issue. And YES, the transformation in looks is very apparent... Shaan was complimenting him a lot last night 😊 (in the US)

Hi scs07,

Thanks for responding and noting that diction is not a problem.

I am curious however, why you think "he is hugely overrated"

If anything, he is underrated. He is not promoted much by Saregamapa or ZEE... the way Rajeev and Paresh always feature in promos... His is not promoted that much by his mentor either... Aadesh is always busy promoting Himani and defending Rajeev. Actually, Hemachandra does not get that much attention at all...

I agree !!! I do not think he is overrated at all... He's an excellent singer as said... his singing is very easy on the ears... However, he's been slightly inconsistent in the finals... I've been a little disappointed in some of his performances... I hope he'll shine like he did in the earlier rounds when he got straight greens and coasted in to the finals

Hi She'sthebest,
Yeah, Hemchandra hasn't been all that consistent, but like you said, he does have a wonderful voice. I wonder why he doesn't sing songs that are more techincally difficult though? Most of his songs are simple to sing, unlike the songs that a Vineet picks or a Sharib used to pick. Hemachandra claims he trains for a huge number of hours a day, which means he should be able to sing songs that need a more trained voice. Then why pick such simple songs? Still, amongst the guys, his voice is the most arresting and interesting.

Exactly !!! I do not understand why he doesn't sing more technically difficult that will showcase his talent. Songs like "My heart goes mmmm" are not going to take him anywhere!! Nihira blew everyone away with her rendition of "I love you"... That's my one criticism of Hemachandra... He has not given a "mind blowing" performance yet... and THIS is the time to do it !!!

What did you think of his singing in "Tere mere beech mein" ?? I felt he could have opened up a little more and put more force into his singing...
