It was a special day for the Khandelwals, specially Ashka, for it was the day of her engagement with Neerav, d guy she was in love with since her childhood. Though Neerav was accused for accident, but he was given bail and all he was required to do was attend the court hearing.
At Shanak house.
He comes out of the washroom, she is nowhere in the bedroom.
"hmm..lagta hai madam pehle se hi ready ho gayi..Shantanu Khandelwal! U r late!"
Smiling to himself, thinking of Khanak's cute flared nostrils, he picks up d 3 piece suit from the wardrobe.
"I am sure Khanak wil look like a fairy at the party, toh obv I shld also match up wid her standards"
He happily comes out of the bedroom, she is not even in d living room.
"crap man! Khanak toh gaadi ke paas chali gayi"
He was right, she was standing in the parking lot, waiting for him. But he was puzzled cng her wear a simple white suit with a pink dupatta.
"ermm..Khanak, I know u love simplicity, but don't u think occasion pe u shld be wearing something more graceful .."
"what occasion?"
" haha..Ashka ki sagai yaar"
She looks at him – "I am not going to ne occasion"
Before he could say nething, she takes d car keys from his hands, opens d door and goes and sits in the passenger seat, while he takes d driver's seat.
"then y r u coming with me ?"
"drop me at the temple, I want peace"
He looks at her, wonders she has become much silent n pale after d whole incident. He din wanted to reprimand her, though he din approved her decision.
"dekho Khanak, I know u r angry at Neerav..but atleast Ashka n mere khatir…"
" do u love me?"
He is taken aback by her question
"yeh kaisa sawaal hai..of course I do.."
"den don't ask me questions and plz drop me at d temple..plzz Shantanu"
He had no other option.
She sat there on the floor of the temple, looking at the Lord, lost in her own world, oblivious of the people around her, oblivious of the fact that it was almost 12 in the noon, time for the temple to get closed temporarily.
"beta, Ramji ko bhog chadane ka waqt aa chukka hai..mandir abhi ek ghante ke liye band rahegi"
Khanak got up hearing the priest's words.
"kuch mangne aayi thi beti?"
"jee..khud ko"
The priest was puzzled for a moment, then realized the girl was in need of something, which only God could give her.
"woh toh tumhe tabhi milega jab tum apne ander ke us bhagwan ko pehchanogi"
She is bewildered- "woh kaise?"
"wahi jo Bhagwan Shri Ram ne kiya tha"
For a second, she was puzzled, looked at the smiling Lord. Something strikes her, she bows be4 the Lord, takes the priest's blessings and comes out of the temple, getting her answer from the Lord- To be with Truth!!!
She is still confused, for choosing between her love, her life and humanity.
"Is something bothering you, my child"
She looks up hearing the Father's words. She has been sitting inside the vacant church for almost 2 hrs
"No, nothing Father..i was just.."
The Father smiles- "do not lie, my child, the Lord knows everything"
"Is Truth such significant Father?
"of course it is"
"what if our being with Truth hurts our love"
"My child, ur being wid Truth means He is wid u, how can he allow love to be offended with you."
Being at the Temple, then at the Church , made her realize one thing – The significance of Truth!
She was confident now, confident about her decision to be with the truth. She calls the auto..
At the policestation
"Arey koi Maydam ke liye chai pani lekar aao"
"Excuse me!"
Khanak fumed at the SI's ignorance towards her complaint.
"Main yahan apni complaint likhwane aayi aur aapko mazak sooz raha hai?"
" Arey Maydam, actress ho, kaise vishwaas karlu , kal tanne apne baat se mukar na jaoge.."
She chooses to ignore the SI's words, takes a paper from the pile kept on the table, writes something, signs on the page.
She gets up, handing the paper to the man- "Yeh lijiye..FIR!"
The man looks at the page, then at the confident n strong lady standing be4 him. He gulps, gets up from his chair, shouts
"Shinde! Gaadi nikaal! Jamai raja ko lene jana hai!!!"
Its celebrations at the Khandelwals. Only few minutes were left for the auscpicious time for engagement. The whole occasion was graced by most of the rich and elite persons in town. As such the security was given the most preference, wid all d guests being checked at the gate for the invitation card.
"Ruko!..Card dikhayi pehle"
As usual the guard stops the guest n his team.
" card kyun dikhaye"
"Sir ne kaha hai bina invitation card ke kisi ko andar na jane de"
The man places a hand on the guard- "bhai tu tehra sirf Khandelwal ka naukar, main Sarkar ka naukar hoon, mujhe na rok..warna teri bhi barati le jaonga."
The guard steps aside allowing the SI and his team to go inside.
After an hour of chaos and arguments, finally d policemen took away Neerav, the whole party is almost vacant, leaving behind d dejected Vohras and the Khandelwals.
"babuji, mujhe maaf kar dijiye..I couldn't keep my promise" Girish Khandelwal fell down at the patriarch of d Vohras.
"galti teri na hai..tu toh mara apna hai..tharo beta bhi mara apna hai..woh chori toh parayi se."
Girish stood up, giving a angry glare to Shan, who was too stunned to react to nething.
"Dad..woh..m sry.."
"y r u saying sry to me, say sry to ur sister, dat sister who helped you so much in ur love life n dis is what her bro has done to her.."
He looks up towards Ashi's room where he knows she might be crying now, but he din had courage to even face her.
However all he could do was apologise to his father.
But before he could say nething, he was stopped by his father's words.
"Enough of the tamasha u have made of my reputation. Pehle tumhare harkat se I got a slap and now becoz of ur dear wife, my whole family has got a slap."
Shan had no option than to leave his family at their condition.
He came back home, sad and frustrated, unlocked d door, kicked it open. He goes inside the bedroom, finds her sitting upright on the bed, head leaning on the pillows, eyes closed, a book in her hands. He takes the book, places it on the table beside with a loud thud, enough to wake her up.
She looks at him startled.
"Shan..! tum kab aye?"
She is about to touch his hand, he jerks away.
"kyun?..u din expected me..to be a part of ur celebration"
She was puzzled, but he was serious.
"what? U shld be celebrating..isn't it..afterall u succeeded in ur plan"… His voice has sarcasm in it.
"plan?..Shantanu..m sry for whatever happened, but that's not my fault"
"Nahi..Nahi, its actually my fault that I gave u the importance in life, above my mom-dad, above my frnds, my sister..n the hell..above my own life..n u?..could never give me d importance..tumhare liye ur values r most imp..dat kid is more imp."
He lashes at her. She says in a low tone- "Shantanu, I did for sake of humanity"
"humanity?..phir us Insaan ke bare mein kyun nahi socha jiske barso ki ijjat tumhare wajeh se mitti me mil gayi aaj, us aurat ke bare mein kyun nahi socha who had to helplessly watch her husband fall at the feet of some1..us ladki ke bare mein kyun nahi socha, jiske bachpan ke sapne ko tumhare is zidd ne todd diya!"
She is shocked at his outburst. In a very low tone, she manages to say- "Shantanu…sab ki bare mein soch rahe ho..what abt my feelings"
"Damn it! M here wid u..u got me, my love..aur kya sochu main tumhare aur tumhare feelings ke bare mein"
Saying so he barges inside the washroom, leaving her stunned, as she doesn't even realizes when tears starting falling from her eyes.
Its mid of the night, with darkness everywhere in the room, but sleep miles away from both Shan and Khanak's eyes. They lay on the bed, their backs facing each other.
Shan turns around to face her. She was crying, he knew that. His mind advices him to ignore her, but his heart says him to turn her around n hold her in his arms. Confused, he shifts back to his original position.
Its now Khanak's turn to turn arnd. She knew he had lost his sleep ever since d incident happened. Her heart was telling her to hug him, give him the warmth.
She is about to place her hand on his shoulder when he turns around.
They look at each other for a second. She is about to say something, he doesn't allows her, instead pulls her towards herself, embracing her completely, once again keeping his promise of always being with her, as she cuddles to him.
