As he stepped in, he was astonished by the beauty of the town. The town was adorned in the beautiful shades of dusk, with only the lamps glowing with dim orange light. Among the beautiful buildings was a beautiful lake which shone and reflected the moon who sat up in the sky proudly, bestowing his light on the town. There was not a single soul lurking around. He started moving towards the bridge, when he was disturbed by the sounds of anklets. He stopped dead in his tracks, and took a glimpse of time. It was past midnight and there was nobody, so where the noise did came from?
Just when he dismissed the thought as an illusion, he heard that soothing music of anklets again and this time he also saw a shadow running. He was sure there was someone, but at this odd hour, and that too a woman? Before he could comprehend anything, he felt a push backward and stumbled on his balance and fell back on the ground with a thud and the next moment he was taken aback by a weight on him. He slowly opened his orbs to look back into another pair of hazel ones.
He was lost in the beautiful hazel orbitals, that reflected purity and innocence. But he was brought back from his trance when, the person stood up, covering her face with the black shawl. He stood up slowly to register her all jittery and frightened. He noticed that she was clad in a black ghagra choli only with simple golden borders. Her face was covered with the shawl she held, making only the doe shaped orbitals visible.
Suddenly she glanced up, and then in the same second she looked down again. She raised her right hand bowed a little and whispered a soft "Shukriya!". He could say that, this was the most melodious symphony he ever heard. Suddenly as if on fire, she looked back as there was a voice of footsteps approaching. He could clearly say that She was taken aback when he suddenly pulled her to a corner, behind a wall. But he didn't look at her, and kept looking towards the lane.
Her breathing turned rapid as if she was scared, he was confused with his sudden action. No he never did this with anyone. After ensuring that the man who was looking for her, from whom she was running probably, was gone, he released her from his hold and slightly whispered
" he is gone..."
"huh"? she looked up with confusion. Her eyebrows scrunched. He almost smiled but withdrew, not wanting to scare the already confused lady.
" The person" he pointed towards the lane and continued " The one who was following you is gone, you are safe..." he smiled at her and she sighed with relief, thanking the almighty closing her eyes. She opened her eyes and again repeated the gesture and said "Shukriya!". He knew that she was smiling behind the curtain of shawl.
She looked down again and moved forward, towards her destination. When she moved past him, their shoulders slightly brushed. She moved forward when she suddenly felt a tug at her shawl causing her to stop and turn back. The shawl fell from her head and landed on her shoulder. As she turned, he was left stunned with her beauty. She was certainly the most beautiful lady he had ever seen. The dim light highlighted her beauty. She looked up at him, only to be drawn into those deep soulful eyes.
Under those dim lights, they both stood, lost in each other when she suddenly took a step back only to fall ahead. His hands on a reflex caught her by her waist and her hand clutched the lapels of his coat. They both were again lost in each other's embrace. The only voice were of the rhythm of the waves and soft breeze that caressed them. She slowly moved back realizing their position, and looked down to see her shawl's end tucked in his watch.
"Oh!" she smiled realizing the reason of the sudden action. She took his hand and slowly untangled the cloth from his wrist watch. She smiled at him and turned back only to be stopped a whisper
"Beautiful..." the word escaped his lips even before he could realize. She turned back with a sudden confusion
"Ji? Aapne kuch kaha?"
Hearing her voice, again the euphony, he came back from the world he got lost into. He realized what he just did and tried to cover it.
"Uh, I mean dont you think kaafi der hogayi hai, you should not travel alone, I shall drop you...I mean kahi phir se jese vo aadmi.. I mean you are getting what I say right?" he spoke with a conviction, both trying to cover up his words and getting a moment more to spend with her.
" uh yes I do get, I mean I know its right, but I don't wish to trouble you-"
" I insist!" he quickly replied, cutting her sentenced, not wanting to loose the opportunity to loose her. But again he realized he may scare her and his fears came true when he saw her turning back and leaving.
He was about to about to say something when she turned back and smiled at him
" Kya hua? Irada badal diya kya, matlab hume akele jana hoga?" She completed and turned back and stood still. As soon as he comprehended the meaning behind her words he rushed to her and gestured her to start walking. He rubbed his hands suddenly excited to spend a walk with her.
" So I am Asad!" he made a feeble attempt to initiate a conversation only to receive a slight nod and smile. His smile flattered.
"Don't you think you should... I mean it's a good manner to reply someone jab koi apko apna naam bataye, mera matlab aapko nahi lagta ki apko apna naam batana chahiye?"
She turned towards him and stopped, giving him a slightly raged look she moved ahead increasing her pace. He raked his hand through his hair and matched her steps.
" I mean it's a good manner, zarruri nahi sabko follow karna chahiye!" he tried covering up with a lame attempt when he heard her chuckling and slightly covering it up with a small smile and placing the tip of the mid point of index finger while rest of the fingers curled beneath it, a very feminine gesture he thought.
[Song : Mashallah
Movie : Saawariya ]
Gum Sum chandani ho naazneen ho
Ya Koi hoor ho
Dil nashin ho, dil kashin ho
Ya janaat ka noor ho
Mashallah mashallah mashallah
They kept walking while he gazed at her lovingly enchanted by her, who kept trying to muffle her giggles at his silly attempts. Finally she stopped and broke into a peels of laughter when he finally joked about something and covered it up with a very lame remark. He stood still and so did the time. It was only him and her and the breeze. She looked up to see him gazing at her intently.
Gum Sum chandani ho naazneen ho
Ya Koi hoor ho
Dil nashin ho, dil kasheen ho
Ya janaat ka noor ho
Mashallah(allah)... mashallah(allah)... mashallah(allah...)
He tucked her fringes back which obstructed the view of her face while she got startled with sudden touch. He slowly moved in front of her and sat on his left knee offering his hand. She looked at him confused. He got up and moved towards her while she took a step back in reflex. He stopped and and caressed his palm over eyes causing her to close them. She felt a loss of warmth and opened her eyes. She looked around unable to find him when a sudden whisper of "mashallah" jolted her. Her sudden turn caused her hands to land on his chest and his to be wrapped around her waist.
Music
She suddenly realized their position and pushed him and looked away angrily. She kept her hand on her heart, trying to calm the erratic beats. She looked up to see him hurt. But, she didn't care what he felt, at least this moment. She turned back and ran towards the small bridge causing her shawl to fall off her shoulder. He bent down and caressed the shawl.
She ran as fast as she could, holding her ghagra in her hands, while tears rolled down her cheeks. She finally stopped on the other side of the lake, under the lamp trying to calm herself when she felt a shadow lurking around her. She saw the man who was chasing her was trying to find her. She gasped and again ran trying to run away from him when she was suddenly pulled with a force behind a wall. Before she could say anything a palm covered her mouth. Her eyes were closed but she knew she could feel it was Asad.
Tum sabah ho, ya ghata ho
Kehkasha ho saaiba ho
She opened her eyes and looked into his. He was hurt, she could see it clearly. He looked away angrily slowly releasing his hand from her mouth and just checking if the man was gone. After a few seconds he turned back and started to leave when she held his hand. She looked at him with an apologizing look. She pointed towards the boat and looked at him hopefully.
Subah ki pehli kiran ke jaisi
Bebaat alhaad pavan ke jaisi
He nodded at her and moved towards the boat. He stepped first and then helped her to get in. Adjusting her dress she sat down and he followed. As the boat moved she touched the flowers floating on the water and caressed them.
Khushbooen tum lootati ho,
Masti me choor choor
Mashallah(allah)... mashallah(allah)... mashallah(allah...)
She bent down and inhaled their fragrance and he admired the beauty under the moonlight. Suddenly he felt splashes of water on his face and looked up to see her giggling. He repeated the same gesture and she was shocked. They both shared a few moments of pure bliss.
She pointed back and he saw they were approaching the bridge. They both together bent down to protect themselves. As they crossed the bridge they registered their proximity. They glanced at each other and looked away as the red hue spread on both of their cheeks.
Music
Finally he brought the boat to the edge. He stepped out and helped her out. As she moved out she again splashed water on him and ran away. He wiped the water off his face and ran behind her. Finally catching her from back , he twirled her around and then placed her on the ground. He turned her around and wrapped her shawl around her and she looked at him with adoration and respect.
Tum Haya ho
Tum Rida ho
Tum wafa ho
Tum nasha ho
"Aasman kitna saaf hai, chand ki chandani har jagah bikhri hui hai, agar tare bhi hote to kitna khoobsurat lagta ye Aasman" She whispered as they sat on the bench.
He moved towards her and turned her to face her. Asad wrapped his hands around her back and lifted the dupatta and placed it on her head such that it covered her eyes.
"Ab upar dekho!" he gestured her to look up. She followed and looked up and saw stars. She was confused but then realized they were the tiny silver stones studded in her black net dupatta that made them look like stars.
"humne to dekhliya, par aap..." she asked teasing him only to be astonished by his reply.
" I am gazing my star since long..". She looked away shyly at his reply.
Khamosh nazre sadaao jaisi
Tumhari batein duao jaisi
They kept looking at each other and he slowly removed the veil from her face. She looked up in the sky and pointed shouting "Tut ta hua tara...shooting star!" and immediately raised her hands wishing something with her eyes closed. Asad didn't knew why but he felt like doing it, even he raised his hands.
Har nafas mei to samayi ho
Phir bhi ho itni door
Mashallah(allah)... mashallah(allah)... mashallah(allah...)
She got up and adjusted her dupatta.
"Kaafi der hogayi hai, ab hume chalna chahiye" she finally spoke half heartedly hiding her
Disappointment. She moved forward only to fall back. She smiled thinking it was the cloth and watch again but was shocked to see Asad holding her hand. She looked at him confused and he pointed up. She turned her gaze and he pecked her cheek. She was startled and immediately her hands moved up on her cheek.
" This will be one memorable night for me" he slowly whispered.
Gum Sum chandani ho naazneen ho
Ya Koi hoor ho
Dil nashin ho, dil kasheen ho
Ya janaat ka noor ho
Mashallah(allah)... mashallah(allah)... mashallah(allah...)
They walked back towards her home both lost in their thoughts, trying to comprehend the moments they spent together. How can one come so close in matter of just a few minutes. Finally she stopped and he looked at her.
" Humara ghar agaya..." that was sentence was enough to make him feel as if something wrong was going to take place.
May be it was their last meet, last time they see each other, may be last time talking to each other. They both looked at each other. She moved forward and hugged him with all her might. He was shocked first but then wrapped his arms around her, placing his chin on her head.
"Kaash waqt yahi tham jaaye... aisa kya hogaya in palo me, ki aapse dur jaane ka man nahi karraha??"
She asked him hopefully, trying to get her answers. He was shocked that she spoke something such. He only tightened his hold around her. After a few minutes they finally parted away.
She started moving backwards, smiling at him and he reciprocated. She turned around only to stopped by his voice, again.
"Ab to apna naam batadijiye mohtarma..."
She smiled and whispered something, but he was unable to hear it. Suddenly feel something heavy hitting his head.
He opened his eyes suddenly, blinking his eyes to adjust the surroundings. He registered his surroundings. Gone was the beautiful dark sky only to be replaced with scorching heat. He looked towards heavy thing that hit him, to see a window. Now he understood everything, he was in a car... With his family... Going to his cousins wedding. Then wait, was that all dream, the beautiful lady, the moments they spent...were those all nothing but a mere dream??
He sighed, raking his hand through his hair, trying to calm himself. His mother looked at him worried, he just smiled dismissing her worries.
After an hour, they finally reached the destination and got down. His mother moved in while he took care of the luggage. As he moved forward towards his mother to ask her about one of the bags, he felt a push backward and fell down on the ground with a thud, again feeling a weight on him. He looked up to see another pair of beautiful eyes staring back at him, the same eyes...
He got startled while the girl moved up rubbing her clothes. She lend her hand while he kept looking at her, she was the same girl from his dreams but was still so different.
Ghagra was replaced by dark jeans, shawl and blouse replaced by a stylish top and a complete different attitude.
"hey! You okay?" he heard her voice, may be everything was different but the innocence and beauty was intact. When he didn't reply and kept staring at her, she got enraged.
"hello? Kya ha? Ladki ko dekha nahi ki bas shuru! Kya ha? Dekho mister, ache se baat karrahi hu iska matlab ye nahi ki I can't see what are you up to, apni nazar apne tak rakhna!" She shouted and turned back when someone called her.
" hey wait!!" Asad called her, getting up. She turned around at his call.
" I am so sorry, I didn't meant that, I felt mene apko kahi dekha hai... bas isiliye.." Asad tried to explain her, not wanting to leave a bad impression on her mind.
"oh really? Allahmiya what's wrong with all these guys? Ek hi bahana milta hai na sabko, I know you guys well-" She retorted angry at him.
" No no seriously! I don't lie, seriously...by the way I am Asad, Rehaan's cousin..." He cut her off in between trying to convince her.
" ya sure! Oh to aap hai the great Asad Ahmed khan jinke tarifee har jagah hoti hai... Chaliye andar sab apka wait kar rahe hai! Come!"
She replied back registering the fact that he was "The Asad", everyone's favorite. She led him inside when he finally asked
"Don't you think you should... I mean it's a good manner to reply someone jab koi apko apna naam bataye, mera matlab aapko apna naam batana chahiye?"
The same question he asked the beautiful doe-eyed angel and to say he was startled would be an understatement when she gave the same reaction and moved ahead.
" I mean it's a good manner, zarruri nahi sabko follow karna chahiye!" he repeated the same words, but this time she kept walking not bothering to answer. He stood there looking down, upset when she suddenly called him
" its Zoya by the way!" She smiled, replied and ran inside the house.
He stood there grinning like a fool, and ruffled his hands.
"I am going all crazy, and she is a tough nut to crack...Aren't these the best ingredients for a successful recipe...hey! What am I even thinking... I don't believe in these things...but then I saw her in my dream and now meeting her... Is this some sign, are we destined to be together...oh god, what is this? Is this normal?" He questioned himself, not understanding this inner turmoil.
" yes it will be normal, from now" his heart answered, easing his tension. He smiled and followed his heart.
" hey Zoya! Wait!
