It has to be Samrat Yudhisthir
  • He made sure everyone was treated right in his Kingdom.
  • He made sure everyone was employed, and every house had enough food. Everyone had everything, so there was no need to go steal it from others. Thus, Samrat Yudhisthir was able to maintain peace in his Rajya[Kingdom]
  • He never gave priority to his personal needs/pleasures.
  • Basically, Samrat Yudhisthir was Dharam Ka prateek, and possessed every characteristics a King should have.
  • His ethics/ views are unmatchable.

according to me the greatest emperors are the ones who build their kingdom.. so prc will never be in the list because during his rule the kingdom was defeated and it disintegrated.
don't know much abt shivaji.. but i feel he also finally lost it to aurangazeb.. if that is the case.. then even shivaji maharaj is removed from my list...

One of my favorite is Chandragupta Maurya. he was not a prince.. didn't have any army to start with .. but still laid the foundation of the greatest dynastry.. which ruled almost whole of india.(chanakya also had a great role to play in this). bimbisar was also good.. atleast he did not loose any teritories of his kingdom. Ashoka was good in the begining.. expanded his kingdom... but i really hate him for sending his kids for theerth yatra to sri-lanka n all.. thus left his kingdom with no heir.. n the great dynasty that his father n grandfather created was destroyed by him.

Then comes the gupta kings.. starting with chandragupta who started this dynasty.. followed by samudragupta who expanded the empire and then by chandragupta-2 who furter made it strong... but thats it.. his successors destroyed everything..

But the person i really love(though he was not a king or emperor)is sardar patel.. he united the whole of india..even the kashmir problem wld not have occured if nehru had not come in between.. he cannot be called a emperor because india had become a democratic country by then.. but still he is a nation builder.. laid the foundation for us

looool lashy, Shivaji maharaj had hardly anything to do with the British.😆 He was quite earlier than that.

He started his kingdom from scratch, the time where whole india was being ruled by major 2-3 muslim rulers - one of them his dad was working for. Aurangjeb one of them, adilshah another one..

This guy was a hero me thinks - he not only won the battles but played very intelligent politics and also did a lot for community - hence the reason he was openly and sometimes even by underground sources supported by great saints of that time. 😊

British were hardly in picture.. they were came to his Rajyabhishek to give him lot of gifts.. and did few marchant dealings with him.. thats all.. And i think once when they tried to aquire a little port near coast without telling shivaji maharaj, he faught with them and they had to leave it.

so he definitly did not spend his life running after them this was jut lets say 0.5% of his battle time for them.

Now, about his kingdom - He started from the scratch but he definitly ruled a kindom a lot more than just maharashtra a lot of north and a lot more south was part of his kingdom. But I still wouldn't call him emperor.. I would call him a great king probably the greatest I hv ever heard of.. He died pretty young - and I think its one of the best way to live 50 yrs...

hmm.. when it comes to India's greatest emperor - I go for Chandragupta Maurya. This guy was another hero me thinks - All the facts abt him amaze me - He was not a prince - didn't have his own land forget abt kingdom. He got whole india under one roof 1st time in history. He was a good king, and acording to the greek tourists etc at that time - his capital was a the most handsome and rich city in the world!😎

Why ppl still go after is naughty grandson is beyond me..😛

BTW, ishita, kets adds herself to list of maharashrians too..

Yes Ketaki, there was hardly anything between Shivaji and Britishers.

Shivaji started everything from scratch. He got great support of his childhood friends (Malves), his mother Jija mata, Dadoji and all great saints of those times. He became king at the age of 16. Before his time, the condition of Maharashtra and south India to some extent was worst. He established 'Swarajya', and saved India from going in wrong hands. He established good administration, intelligent system, build forts and spread the kingdom. He was one of the intelligent and brave warriers. U know if we see the results, jate waqt weh kuch accha de gaye. Yes there was some family politics. But creating our own kingdom right from beginning, setting good administration where people lived happily, fighting with enemy bravely, developing a strong group of loyal people around, avoiding internal conflicts intelligently, playing right politics, all these are the qualities which a great King should posses and Shivaji maharaj had all these. Yup but this rule was limited upto maharashtra and some part of south India.

Prithviraj, I think rather then great King, he was great warrier - brave, bold and off course romantic😳. And best thing of him was his gold heart and his shabd bedi baan vidya👏. But again he was highly ambitious (which is not wrong though)and agressive. But this created internal enimity which is the first thing a king should avoid. So I could not call him greatest.

After him Akbar could be called great king. He established good art in India. His era was perfect. Also Gupta kingdom. 👏

Then if we go more back in History, I think Yudhistir (from Mahabharat) was great. That time when Indraprastha was established was the great time of their era. Also after winning the war against Kauravas, he ruled as an ideal king and after him son of Abhimanyu - Parikshit.

Then more back, Bhishma's father era (I think his name is Bharat) was great (till he fell in love and married that Fisherman's daughter) and before him Ram's father's era (Dashrath raja).

Its difficult to choose one. Har koi apne jagah sahi tha. Cannot compare them. But if we ve to point out one, I would say Shivaji was the greatest (AFAIK)

Note: My History knowledge is very poor. If i m going wrong anywhere, plz correct me.
