On a serious note, as a teenager he has seen his dad misbehaving with his mom. Rishi was in Ranbir's own words going through a phase when he was no longer a lead in movies and it brought lot of discord between him and Neetu. So maybe Ranbir took it upon him to,take care and stand by his mom..
