When you are watching a reality show, see a contestant from your country, region, religion on the show, the contestant may/maynot be the best out there

Why do people gravitate towards that contestant? Even without knowing if that contestant is the best or the worst people just want to vote for them

Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul, SRGMP, American Idol

American Idol has two Indian kids on the show, we know Indians/Asians will vote crazy for those two, same with Big Brother, People will vote for Shilpa whether or not she is the best, just b'cos she is Indian

why do you think minorities do this?

Do we have a right to cry racism after this?

I think people somehow feel represented by those candidates. Perhaps there is a sense of similarity and familiarity that makes them feel closer. It is not exacylt living vicariously through them, but something similar on a very small scale.

Do we have a right to cry racism after this?

Absolutely NOT! We are hypocrites! Terms such as "Dumb blonde"/ "Kallu" "Stupid Goras" truly irritate me. These terms did not originate in Webster / Oxford. Plenty of discrimination based on color, haircolor, caste, region, religion is practiced in the United States of India. We have to be ignorant to deny that.

nice post AGNI!

The strange fact is India is the only country where the minorities enjoy more rights than the majority.

Not entirely true. Canadian Idol had an Indian, Devika Mathur, among the top 20, but even though the judges brought her back in a wildcard round, she didn't make the cut because she was simply not as good as the rest.

Though it could be argued that not a lot of Indians watch CI, I believe that in the end, the minority quotient does not always help contestants win reality shows.

Eventually, if the contestant does not improve, even his/her supporters will stop voting. E.g. Jasmine Trias from American Idol who got tremendous support from Hawaii and Asians throughout the US. She never improved, finally ousting one of the season's best contestants, rousing the ire of many fans. Then, she was finally eliminated.

why do you think minorities do this?

Its not just minorities, but anyone who is remotely associated to the contestant's city or region will do the same thing.

It is very common for people to take pride in the accomplishments of others who are of the same race, religion or region.

Do we have a right to cry racism after this?

If we vote based on race, then definitely not. But, if we vote based on merit, then we have every right to cry racism. 😛

I vote only for the best.... and nothing less. Last time i voted so much for Chris Daughtry and felt bad when he lost to lunkhead salt-pepper..who incidentally reminded me of debu of SRGMP. But like everytime my hunches never go wrong... so Daughtry has his album rocking on the countdown charts whereas mr salt pepper might be selling nachos somewhere... in short.... its foolish to vote for somebody being brown skinned.or familiar continent or even an indian.. ...😆 All things remaining equal... yes i will always vote for an indian or an asian.. but i dont think i will ever get to see that - ever...😊

Wow! I also voted for Chris. He sang the national anthem for NFC championship yesterday. The year before, I was with Bo Bice, whose unplugged was the best performance ever that year.

Te doghe ardhe marathi aahet, asa kal la hota 😉 , mhanoon vote dila. hee hee
