OS 2- Contentment

Tears were strange things, weren't they? They fell down when your heart was full of sadness and even when the heart brimmed with joy. Ah! This sentiment could be converted into a beautiful sonnet. She mentally patted her back for being so creative and penned down her thoughts.

She felt as if a thin membrane of bliss had been wrapped around her...Today felt content with her lot in life. She had been bereft of the love of a family for so long that some days she had even wondered whether she would ever get to have a family of her own. Coming to India, living with Mr. Khan's small but happy family, made her heart tug. How easily some things came to people! But these feelings were all maudlin she would later realize for Mr. Khan's family welcomed her with open arms. She had been fortunate enough to find not only a shelter but a home among them. For so much joy, so much care...she was thankful to God.

And then there was him.

He was an anomaly to her at first; the functioning of his mind was a mystery she wished to solve. He was unemotional and temperamental, or so she had thought. She had been wrong though, for a more thoughtful and caring man she had yet to meet. His anger was just a ruse she had come to know. He wasn't unemotional; he had a problem with words... Who would have thought that? The eloquent Mr. Khan couldn't express his feelings because he was shy! Oh, she had so much fun teasing him about that. She had to admit, he was adorable when he looked away from her when she mocked him. The way he would mumble ,'Miss Faruqi...I don't understand what you're saying' and walk away.

She wondered if he knew how much he meant to her? Whether he knew that he was her everything? It sounded filmy and cheesy but it was the only truth that mattered to her.

She had no one else. No one at all.

He had given her so much, more than she had ever expected, protected her from the world, accepted her with her quirks and insane ideas, lent her his shoulder so that she could lean on it and cry and stood by her in his own way. He understood her far more than she understood herself.

She loved him and for now this realization was enough. She was content.
