This, my friends, is a story of a girl who wanted too much' and somehow she really expected to get it all. How? Heck, if she knew, she just expected to get it all. She planned on making sure it happened. What did she want?
Oh you never asked Khushi that question, the answer was endlessly long and knowing her she wouldn't get tired of answering it but everyone around her would for sure get tired of listening to the answer. The current thing on her mind, was to make some jalebis, not because she was stressed out or tired (because that was normally when she wanted to cook), this time around it was because there were going to be people coming over to their house to meet her Di for a rishta. It was some family known as the Raizadas, come on, that name alone made you realize they were rich' rich was an understatement, lets just say they were loaaaded. She said in the same accent her Bengali friend would say it, with a tinge of almost disgust that anyone was ever that rich and a tinge of jealousy that we were not the ones that rich. A peak into Khushi's mind and you knew there was trouble, she was never diagnosed with attention deficit disorder but Payal could have sworn that's what she had. Within two minutes of being in Khushi's mind, all of these thoughts could be heard, and often all at the same time!
I wonder if they are nice people. God I hope they are nice, Payal Di is too innocent is for mean people.
Oh man, my exam results come out tomorrow. How am I ever going to convince my mamiji to let her go to graduate school.
Ooo I wonder if Buaji is going to wear her lucky, "rich" sari.
Oh man, what am I going to wear?
I really hope Bauji ate his medicines, he is never careful about his health, how was she so concered and angry at him at the same time.
Okay, okay let's leave Khushi to her own mind, there was no saving her from her thoughts, she was meant to think 5 steps ahead and 4 steps backwards, usually landing her in just the place she needed to be.
On the exact opposite side of that range stood Arnav Singh Raijada. He was a man of few words and of even fewer thoughts, never speaking more then necessary. He was a smart man, a man who was respected and feared by all the same. He usually thought in a very linear manner, always in a rational and practical manner. He had comitted to his Di to go with the family to go see a girl for Akshay. They wanted a simple, "susheel" girl for Akshay. Arnav had never understood why only a girl dressing up in a salwar was nice and susheel, did the girls in short dresses not have a heart? But he was not going to waste his energy and breath trying to argue with his Di, if they wanted a girl for Akshay, they can pick whoever.
He looked at his watch, he was not a man who liked being late so he left right away. A sneak peek into his mind would reveal nothing exciting, he was a boring man to say the least.
I don't understand why I have to go to this.
I guess Di asked me.
Fine, I will go, I just won't enjoy it.
That's nothing new.
Neither of them knew that they were going to meet the people that was going to change the way they thought forever, for the first time in his life, Arnav would have to become impractical and Khushi would have to learn to be practical. If that was possible.
