Shilpa's expression changed from one of anger to one of sorrow. She slowed look down and stepped back. It pained her to hear him say that. He stepped towards her eliminating as much space as possible. She still did not look at him.
"what happened shilpa? Why so quiet?" he received no respone, " You know why? Because you still love me."
Shilpa immediately looked at him
"don't look at me like that shilpa, you know what I'm saying if true and I know what I'm saying is true, because I still see those emotions in your eyes and if what I saying wasn't true, you would not have looked at me, you would not have been this quiet. If what I'm saying is a lie, then you would have already asked me to leave. And I know that you still love me, because I still love you." He tucked a few strands of loose hair behind her ears, "even when you left me, my love for you never faded. You changed me and I know I changed you too because you're definitely not the same person you were ten years ago."
"armaan…I'm sorry, but I never loved you." She lied through her teeth.
He smirked, "then why don't you look away?"
Realizing their position, she quickly looked down and attempted to move, he didn't allow her to though. He pulled her back to him crushing her back to his chest.
"armaan let go of me," she made many attempts to free herself but he was too strong, "armaan let go of me! understand that I have no feelings for you!" she screamed at the top of her lungs before he let her go. He turned her around and she was now a few inches away from him. Taking in deep breaths she looked at him. He showed no emotions, he just looked at her.
She spoke, "I never had any feelings for you…and I never will."
He still showed no emotions. She was confused. There she was lying to him, telling him, someone who had just professed his love for her, that she will never love him and yet, he had no emotion on his face. Saying nothing and still showing no emotion, he began walking towards her. Her expression changed immediately. She became alert of what he was doing. She began stepping back.
"armaan…"
He, however, had no intention of stopping. Then, she hit the wall. Before she could move, he blocked her. She knew him well enough to know what he was and still was capable of. He began reducing the distance between them. As their skins touched, Shilpa took a sharp breath and closed her eyes. Armaan smirked. He stroked her cheek, leaned in and whispered again her lips,
"Ms. Shilpa Molhotra, if you feel nothing for me, then why does my touch affect you so much?"
Her eyes still remained closed. He smiled, knew the effect he was having on her and loved it, he knew she was melting. He leaned in closer and whispered in her ear,
"I take thee at thy word
Call me but love, and I'll be new baptiz'd
Hence forth, I never will be Romeo."
She immediately looked at him and their eye met. He allowed his breath to fall on her lips.
"after all these years, it's your fault I remember my lines," he said with a slight smile. He closed his eyes as his rubbed his nose against hers and she closed hers. Slowly opening his eyes, he placed his fingers under her chin. As her eyes opened, he lifted her face closer to his, "and I know you remember yours too."
She found herself lost in him as he continued, "Remember that day when we were forced to act this scene together? We didn't want to, but at the end, we didn't regret it. Remember that day Shilpa?"

*flashback*
Approximately 10 years ago
Armaan and Shilpa were 15. Armaan was the typical bad boy; he ditched classes, high jacked cars, he vandalized property, but he didn't trouble girls, he respected them, didn't care about them…or anyone else, but respected them. All the girls loved him, drooled over him.
Shilpa was the good girl, the good, popular girl; didn't care what people thought of her, attended all classes, never gave trouble, straight A student, everyone loved her.
Literature class
First period in the morning
The teacher entered
"good morning class"
"good morning sir"
"today we will be discussing the famous balcony scene; Romeo and Juliet's balcony scene. Your assignment was to read the play and as I would want to believe that you all did you assignment, today we will see the play. Someone is going as act a romeo and another as Juliet. But fir-"
The teacher was unable to complete his sentence as he was interrupted by a knock on the door. The teacher, Shilpa and the other students turned to the door only to see the principal and armaan.
"excuse sir, sorry for interrupting but is armaan malik supposed to be in your class right now?"
The teacher sighed, "yes sir."
"ok, I'll leave you to handle the situation."
They watched the principal leave. Armaan looked at the teacher uninterestedly.
"armaan why weren't you in class?"
Full of attitude, armaan responded, "because I didn't want to".
"armaan it's the first period Monday morning ad I don't want to deal with your attitude. Have a seat."
Saying nothing but showing lots of attitude, armaan made his way to the back of the class and sat in the empty seat next to Shilpa. She glanced at him for a split second, then looked ahead. She didn't want to admit it but he looked hot.
"why do I always fall for the bad boys?" he mentally asked herself.
He did the same. He glanced at her, then looked ahead. He liked her, but didn't care to say about it.
"like I was saying class, today we are going to discuss and reenact Romeo and Juliet's balcony scene."
"great!" Shilpa whispered sarcastically, unknown to the fact that armaan had heard. He smiled and looked at her.
"what happened?"
Shilpa looked at armaan and he looked away, "little miss perfect student doesn't like romeo and Juliet?"
"one, I'm not a perfect student,"
Armaan smirked
"two…I hate it!"
Shilpa looked ahead. With both of them in that position, they quietly continued their 'conversation'.
"that's a surprise"
"what?"
"that you, miss Shilpa molhotra, hates something that has to deal with school."
"just because I am a good student, doesn't mean I love school."
"shocking"
Shilpa was about to say something, but stopped when she heard the teacher.
"ms molhotra and mr malik, is there something you would like to share with the class?"
"no sir," sjilpa replied bur armaan however was unresponsive.
The teacher continued, "very well. As I was saying, the role of romeo would be played by... armaan and the role of Juliet by Shilpa."
"what!" both of them were shocked.
"but sir," Shilpa began to protest.
"no buts."
The teacher began making his way to the back of the class to clear the 'stage'.
"please come forward both of you."
They realized they had no choice. They looked at each other and made their way to the front of the class. With the teacher at the back of the class and them at the front they reluctantly picked up their books.
"and begin" the teacher ordered.
" o romeo o romeo," Shilpa began with no enthusiasm. The teacher stopped her.
"am Shilpa, what was that?"
"what was what sir?"
"what was that?" he said referring to her acting, "I didn't feel the emotions."
Shilpa looked at him with the 'dude-are-you-ok' expression on her face.
Whenever they (the students) had to act, the teacher's attitude would change. He would become one of those dramatic drama teachers. It was usually funny. Shilpa looked at armaan who was trying to control his laughter.
"Shilpa you need to become Juliet,"
"why would I want to do that?" she said loud enough only for armaan to hear.
"imagine you are Juliet, all you want to do is see your romeo." The teacher went through the entire class explaining explaining romeo and Juliet's feeling for each other. armaan and Shilpa didn't get to act. When the bell rang, the entire class was about to leave but the teacher stopped them.
"since you both didn't get to act today you'll act in the next class on Wednesday, On a different scene. Class dismissed."
Wednesday
Teacher walks in
"good morning class,"
"good morning sir,"
"mr malik, it's a nice surprise to see you here bright and early,"
"her fault," armaan said with his whatever attitude pointing towards Shilpa. Shilpa really wasn't bothered with what was going on and continued doodling in her book.
"thank you Shilpa"
Unaware of the situation she just smiled at the teacher.
" so we can begin class with the scene. You, armaan and Shilpa will be doing the ballroom scene where romeo and Juliet meet for the first time and romeo asks for a kiss."
As Shilpa heard the latter, she immediately looked up. Was she supposed to kiss him? No…he was supposed to kiss her!
" o God, help me." she thought.
As the teacher made his way to the back and them to the front armaan softly asked Shilpa, " no comments today?"
" no choice, I might as well get over with it."
The teacher then spoke when they reached the front, " start with the conversation. Begin!"
They began and eventually 'became' romeo and Juliet. At the end of the scene, where they were supposed to kiss, they were so much into character, into the moment, that they were not hesitant. As that part of the play edged closer, so did they. The passion was increasing and the class were enjoying as well. Slowly armaan placed his hand on shilpa's cheek and gently lifted her face closer to him and he leaned in forward. Their eyes closed and the distance was reducing. As they lips were about to touch, the bell rang, bringing them out of their trance. Their eyes shot open and shock was written on their faces. Shilpa quickly scanned armaan's urging eyes and stepped back. There was an outburst of applause by the class. The teacher commended then for their acting, stating that he had seen a huge improvement. During that time however, Shilpa and armaan hear not one word of what was said. They stood a small distance apart, staring at each other, wondering what would have happened if the bell had not rung. Shilpa looked down uncomfortably. She got her stuff and left class before anyone else. Armaan looked at her leave. His eyes though…were unreadable.
As the day proceeded, that scene was the talk to the day. No one though bad boy armaan malik would be able to act to scene like that so well. Armaan overheard conversation about the play and he himself wondered why he was able to act the scene that well. Was it the emotions, was it history of the play, or… was it Shilpa? Shilpa however, was nowhere to be seen that day. Armaan searched for her, but had not seen her. He was getting restless. The last bell rang signally the end of school. Students rushed out of school but armaan decided to stay back. He wanted, actually, he hoped that Shilpa would be there still. Thirty minutes had passed since school has dismissed, and armaan was still looking for his Juliet. Frustrated, he sat down on the staircase.
"Juliet is harder to find than romeo." He huffed.
Then, as he looked to his right, he saw her entering the empty hallway. His heart smiled. He realized that she was unaware of her surrounding as she was so taken up in a book she was reading. He saw this as an opportunity and took advantage of it. He rushed to her without her knowledge, and pinned her to the nearest wall. She looked at him with wide eyes and he eliminated all the space between them.
"armaan-"
"Shilpa," he placed his finger on her lip. She said nothing, she just looked into eyes while he spoke, "all day I wondered why I acted so well, I wanted to know if it was because of you and all day, I wondered what would have happened if the bell had not rung," she stayed silent, listening to him while taking in breathes harmonious with his. "and I want to know, why weren't you hesitant when you had to kiss me?"
She inhaled a sharp breath and looked down uncomfortably. How was she to answer that? Staying clear of his eyes, she responded, "i…I had no choice, it was part of the scene."
He smirked at her reply, "and who do you think will believe that?"
Shilpa looked at him
"because in know," he continued as he took a breath, "that you're not fooling me with that story,"
"it's not a story, it's the truth." He voice was soft; it was as if she was more concerned about trying to convince herself of that lie than convincing him.
"the truth? You speak of the truth? The truth is that romeo and Juliet died for each other but not completely that 'it was part of the scene'. I know that there's more to that,"
"there isn't" her voice still soft.
He blinked, "then if there's nothing more to that," he gave her a soft smile, " don't kiss me back."
Before she could respond his lips were on hers. He kissed her gently. She was taken aback by this though, but she couldn't resist. She responded to the kiss by kissing him back gently but with the same amount of affection.

Present
"remember that day?" he said whispering her ear. His voice was soft. He stood behind her. His hands were wrapped around her waist and his hands were on hers. Tears brimmed her eyes, " remember that kiss." He closed his eyes in pain as he continued, "remember how you left the next day without telling me."
Shilpa's eyes widened and a small breath escaped though her mouth. He turned in his arms to face him. He opened his eyes. Agony filled him as he looked at her.
" you think I wanted to leave?" he voice was a surprised whisper. He looked at her, "do you really I wanted to leave?" her voice got slightly louder. " you think I wanted to leave you!" she yelled as the pushed herself away from him leaving him stunned. She continued yelling at him " I had a crush on you for years and when I finally found of that you felt the same way about me too," her voice turned to a whisper, "do you think, I was happy to leave?" tears escaped her eyes. Armaan just looked at her.
"for crying out loud I didn't even know I was leaving until that evening," she said trying to compile herself as she wiped her tears, "my dad got a promotion and we had no choice but to leave! I didn't want to go! I cried my eyes out. Not because I'd missed the school or I'd miss the people, but because I'd missed you!" he voice got louder at the end. He looked at her surprised. Her voice softened as she spoke, "I cried because I'd miss your smile, because I'd miss you attitude, because I'd miss you. I felt like a piece of me was dying every day I was away from you. I thought about you every day and until I saw you today, I still did. The only reason I didn't recognize you immediately was because you changed physically. I looked at you through the wedding and after party today and something kept tell me that you were someone… 'special' for me, if u may. From a distance I looked into your eyes and saw those same eyes that loved me, those same eyes that I loved,"
Shilpa continued yelling at armaan while tears trickled down her cheeks. Eyes filled armaan's eyes seeing her in this state. He didn't her to be crying like this. While she was arguing with him, he went up to her and hugged her, silencing her. With her head on his chest, she continued her silent sobbing. Armaan rubbed his hand against her soft hair and gave her a small kiss on her hair. They stayed in that position for a while; she crying and him soothing her. After a while she spoke.
"armaan I'm sorry," he stopped and pulled her a little distance away from his chest to see her face while still embracing her. Tears still trickled down her cheeks while she spoke, "I didn't mean to hurt you like that, I-"
"shilpa shhh," he silenced her wiping her tears while tears filled his eyes, "it wasn't your fault"
"but still-"
"shhh,"
He leaned his forehead against hers while she wiped his tears away.
"I love you shilpa,"
"I love you too armaan,"
"I know," she smiled his dimpled smile
"I'm still sorry armaan, I didn't mean to put you through that," he looked at her while she spoke, "I didn-"
She was interrupted however when she felt his lips on hers.
