Before we move on to this interesting topic, let us take this opportunity to wish all you wonderful women out there "Happy Women's Day". Well, some might say that every day is Women's Day, but one needs to celebrate it in a grand style. So, moving back to the topic for today's post. We will be talking about Indian television actresses and their contribution to Indian television. Well, there is no doubt that their contribution is immense and has made a great impact on the audiences worldwide.

Let's go back memory lane and relive some of the television actress and their contribution to Indian television industry. The current generation might know her as a host, a cricket host. But they might not know about her contribution to television prior to that. Yes, you guessed it right. Shanti ' Ek Aurat Ki Kahani. It was aired on DD National in 1994, and was later shown on Indian television channel Star Plus. The series did star Mandira Bedi as Shanti in the main lead. It was first Indian television drama series, and had received loads of positive reviews and is still considered to be a classic show even in the current times.

The next show was based on 4 friends and about their joys and sorrows. It was an Indian soap opera that was aired on Zee TV channel and which ran for 5 years. Yes, you read it right, 5 yrs. We are talking about "Tara". The series was known as the first ever Indian soap on contemporary urban women, and was the first Hindi language drama series.Navneet Nishan had portrayed the character of Tara. Just like Shanti, this role has made a huge impact on women and had managed connect with the audiences across all the sections of society.

The next actress was once India's highest paid television soap opera actors. She is currently an active Politician and Social Worker. We are talking about Smriti Irani and her show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus. Did you know that almost everyone rejected her due to her looks but Ekta Kapoor, the producer of the show said "She is my Tulsi" and she was chosen to play the protagonist Tulsi. Interesting right? The character of Tulsi was an instant hit among every household and she was India's favorite Bahu. The television audience would cry with her and would be happy when she was happy. That was the connection that Smriti had managed to do with her audience.

The next actress is best known for playing the role of Parvati Agarwal and Priya Kapoor in the television serials Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. Yes we are talking about Sakshi Tanwar. Her character as Parvati Agarwal is still been talked about in the industry and among the audiences. She was India's favorite bhabhi, as she ruled the show right from 2000 ' 2008. She was then back in limelight with the most talked about character in recent times, Priya Kapoor. The impact of that role had definitely made a positive impact in today's society.

Shweta Tiwari was yet another actress whose role as Prerna in the TV show Kasautii Zindagii Ki managed to impress the audiences. Who can forget Mona Singh and her role in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. Her innocent character of Jasmeet "Jassi" Walia , who is an unattractive nerd with braces over her teeth and an odd style of dressing did receive loads of appreciation from the audiences. The recent entry of Drashti Dhami and her role in Madhubala ' Ek Ishq Ek Junoon too is making an positive impact on television audiences. Did we mention Balika Vadhu? Well, who can forget the powerful role of Avika Gor as young Anandi and the elder Anandi aka Pratyusha Banerjee and Siddhi aka Keerti Nagpur from Parichay. Also, Disha Vakani aka Daya Jethalal Gada from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah are the ones that one can look forward to take ahead the legacy for fine actress in the television industry.

These actress and many others have surely taken a risk in choosing the character that they had portrayed. But the amount of hard work, dedication and conviction that they had, has made them reach the top of the television industry. It takes a lot of courage to play the characters that each one has done, and that is why they have made all the women proud and have given them inspiration and motivation to stand up and live with confidence. This post is just a small token of saying Thank You to all these women and many more who have contributed their bit. So on this note; we would like to again wish all the wonderful women out there ' Happy Women's Day.

@ Jay: All the women mentioned in your article did a commendable job in helping the "small-screen" gain new heights in terms of recognition & fame..

People from Bollywod arena too started looking to it as a viable option for trying out their luck & this resulted in loads of shows being aired.

However, an old saying of "success comes with a price" was proved with it too.
Show makers started tempering with the storyline of almost all shows in the name of "drama, twists & all other form of crap" that eventually gave rise to "saas-bahu saga/vamps & God knows what else"... 🤢

So, in my opinion, the degradation of small-screen started simultaneously with its success & the recent casualty is Parichay..

Keerti is indeed the best actor for me..though, I have hardly watched any such shows.. 😆

Last but not the least, wishing all the ladies a HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY!!
