see guys all the medical disorders happen wid consanguinous marriages..tht is when first cousins by blood or close relatives get married..like in sum communities..in those cases ther are complications in pregnancies..the gotra issue is a lot more varied thn tht..coz these peopl neednt be related by blood to be of the same gotra nowadays..coz of the genetic dilution like shreya said..thalassemia,sickle cell anemia,etc etc (list is huge!!) all happen coz of close genetic combinations..gotra is more of a religious issue..
