While playing the lead in Imtiaz Ali's Rock Star Ranbir has had to learn how to play the guitar from scratch.
According to a source, one reason why Saif had initially been selected for the role of the Rock Star was his proficiency on the guitar. "Saif had played with the band Parikrama and knew how to play live on stage."
With Ranbir stepping in, Imtiaz decided to curtail the number of live performances in the film.
But Imtiaz hadn't predicted that Ranbir would end up quite the pro at the end of his lessons.
Says the source, "Though Ranbir won't be singing his own tracks, he will play the guitar in front of a live audience for the film.
The idea is to fill up the audience with youngsters who are fans of rock music for a 'Ranbir Kapoor Concert' backed by a full band."
