Bloated egos of mentors which we are getting to see with each passing episode of SRGM, is stark reminder of the fact that musicians are known to have huge egos..well many of them. When HR is trying to make Vinit a clone of him or when AS is up to tricks which would leave politicians blushing.....or when ID vows to make Nihira a superstar....this point is reflected that .....somewhere their egos need to be salvaged....musicians are known to have huge ego which at times has resulted in war.......I'll use some exapmles:
1. Lataji used all her connections back in 60s to suppress all rival singers in every way possible, including HER OWN sister Asha tai...Ashaji is known to have been supported by OP Nayyar who was dejected by Lataji as tangewala musician...
during one of the recordings Lataji walked out of OP Nayyar's studio saying his music sounds like tangewala's..!!
Incidentally OP Nayyar happens to be only composer who didn't get a formal training....those days people with no training in classical music were looked down upon in Hindi music industry.
2. Kishore da despite being highly talented was not given work by SJ/Madan Mohan & others, those days only singers with extensive training were given work, Kishore da was supported by Burmans only (SD & RD Burman) till he established himself in mainstream singing & that happened in 1974( Bombay to Goa for Amitabhji).
3. Mohd Rafi had a rift with Lataji, as Lataji wanted royalty for her songs, while Mohd Rafi said that sangeet is sadhna.!
for six years they didn't work together......finally a patch up was organised by SD Burman but it took 6 years...!!
4. Noted composer Shankar Jaikishan who hold the record for the maximum number (nine) of Filmfare awards..had ego clash in late 60s but somehow stayed together.
5. While there are speculations as to why Jatin Lalit are heading for a split: the most accepted theory is that Lalitji had doubts that he would ever get noticed under mighty Jatinji ...who called all the shots..Lalitji wanted to establish his own identity ...and that was not possible till he would work independently.
6. The greatest pshychidelic rock band of all time PINK FLOYD saw its split in 1984 when Dave Gilmour & Roger Waters separated.....though none of them rose to the height of the dark side of the moon( it is said that this album has sold so many copies that at any time in a day it is being played somewhere on Earth) while working separately..
7. Lataji refused to attend Filmfare functions till they agreed to introduce caegory of best singers & lyricists, when Filmfare awards started they didn't have any category for them.
