58. The Eye - Center Of The Hurricane

It was past office hours & Maan was standing near the french window in his office, overlooking the buzz around the city.

If he had thought even for a second that Mohinder Handa would change after the show down, then how wrong was he?! Because what happened the following morning was not a pleasant situation for Geet.

In Geet’s Apartment the following morning

Geet was dozing off in the couch when she heard noises. She woke up to see that it was just 5.30AM but her parents looked all ready with their luggage, almost walking out of the house.

Mohinder stared at her for a second as Rano stood with sadness written all over her face, seeing Geet completely tired & confused.

“Papa.. Maa.. where are you going?”, she asked out loud as they proceeded towards the door.

“We are leaving, Geet.”, her father didn’t even turn to answer.

“But your flight is well into the noon….”, and before she could talk more, Mohinder cut her in between.

“Will you listen to me if I ask you not to adopt?”

Geet looked on stunned as he continued, “Well I got my answer.. Then I am no longer going to be a part of your life.”

“Mmmm.. Maaa…”, she whispered disoriented as she felt a cold sweat break all through her body.

“So is your mom or anyone else from my family!”, he voiced out with determination that shook her from the core.

“Geet please….”, Rano begged her daughter to change her mind.

A tear slid down her cheek as she made up her mind. She was not going to give up this time. Not anymore!

“I am sorry, papa… I may come across as a disappointment to you, but…. I am not going to change my mind. Yet I hope that someday…. You will….”

Mohinder and Rano walked out of her door as she slid down on to the floor.

Well she was officially ALL ALONE now….

Maan had been sleepless the night before and had walked into Geet’s house early in the morning to apologise and convince Mohinder calmly, only to know that they had walked out on Geet.

She was sitting on the floor, frozen in time that he had to shake her out of it. He had spent the whole day with her in silence as she stayed put in his arms.

Her eyes were dry yet the determination in them was something that he could bow down to! In a patriarchal society, she came across like Ma Kali to him!

Slowly Farhaan, followed by everyone else came to know of the happenings. Geet was one fortunate being in this aspect, for her friends stood by her with more determination, love & support now.

Farhaan helped her to open up her feelings in the upcoming sessions and found a massive improvement in Geet’s healing post Sameer. She seemed unapologetically sure about adoption and was ready to be understanding towards her family by giving them space and bear the pain herself.

He also could see that her feelings towards Maan were slowly changing yet she seemed to be unsure as she didn’t want to ruin his life by burdening her life choices on him. That seemed totally unfair and impossible to her and Farhan didn’t want to pressure that topic in the current scenario.

No one judged her choice. They were so proud of her guts for she did nothing wrong!

And this time around, Maan didn’t want to keep Dadima-Dadaji in the dark, as his life was going to be with Geet, around her, no-matter-what!

Post the usual family dinner, The old couple heard a soft knock.

“Maan… Come in beta..”, Dadima called him in.

He slowly walked in to sit on the pouffe placed near the rocking chair, near the bed where Dadaji was seated with Dadima in the nearby couch.

“I wanted to share something with you..”

“Geet maan gayi? Did you propose her properly? Nahi toh I myself will ask her to reject!”, Dadima squealed in ecstasy making Dadaji chuckle and Maan to roll his eyes!

“My love life is filled with interesting twists but currently not the one you are talking about! I love it!”, he mimicked in Dadima’s style earning a hearty laughter from the two as he joined in.

It’s been really long that they had a moment like this! That too with Maan.

“I see a progress there.. MSK is finally very open about being in LOVE without rolling his big angry eyes to hide that he is shy!”

“Yeah!! Like more than just ‘I need her in my life!’”, Dadaji commented.

Maan shook his head as he chuckled along with them.

“So tell us.. What’s the new twist?”

“I want you both to be calm to listen to me fully and process it well before coming to any conclusions, because I sincerely don’t know what will your take be on this…”, he huffed letting out the exhaustion his mind was feeling.

“mmmmhmmmm… Go on..”

“Geet’s family, especially her father has severed ties with her… ”

Dadima gasped in shock and he quickly added, “Its just ego and anger.. so not permanent.. Atleast that’s what I would love for it to be…”

“But why?”

“Geet is adopting a child. She is becoming a mother…”

There was complete silence in the room for a few seconds.

“What are your feelings about this, beta?”, Dadaji spoke up this time.

“Not everyone can do what Geet is about to do. I am so proud of her and going to be her support.

Well not only me, all her friends including Dev-Meera, Annie-Arjun, Adi-Pinky & Vicky are already in sync with her.”, saying this he expectantly looked at his grandparents to gauge their reaction.

Their faces were blank and that made him a bit unsure of what to expect.

“Hmmmm.. at this point it may sound fine.. And actually yours and none of our opinions are required or should matter to Geet! She has all the right to decide what she wants to do in her life!", Dadima paused before continuing.

"But lets take the probability were you both end up coming together in future. Then how do you see this, Maan? Would you be able to father a child that’s biologically not yours? And most importantly, would you be okay if you never get to have a biological child with her ever in your life?”

He looked on as he processed what Dadima was asking.

“Am not asking this as your grandmother. Am asking this as a woman who by now has started to understand Geet as a woman with a past that was so not colourful! So, I think this is the perfect time for you to think about all this if you are seriously into her… which I know you are!”

There was silence again.

“You need some time, bete?”, Dadaji asked

“No, I don’t… I was just formulating my thoughts into words…”, he answered back immediately with a confidence that made his dadaji smirk.

“Well… if there is ever going to be a father or a person close to a father figure in that child’s life, it’s going to be me. I would be honoured to have that child as mine and no, it doesn’t even let me to think in the direction that she/he is not biologically mine. It doesn’t matter to me.”

“Am so happy that you think so, Maan… We are really proud of Geet too. It’s a really big step to take, especially as a single woman in this society!”

He couldn’t agree more to dadima as he nodded his head with a wide smile.

“When Pratap & Mamta had visited the orphanage under our trust for an event, they had met a little baby boy of just 1 month, introduced as the home’s newest addition.

Mamta was so elated and restless all through the night after returning home. She couldn’t even wait till the next morning and woke us all up in the middle of the night to tell that she wanted the baby boy for herself! Pratap immediately agreed as he had felt the same.”, Dadima chuckled even as all their eyes misted with those fond memories.

“They both were so in sync always! Your Dadaji was so proud of them to have taken that decision even after having 3 children of their own! But I was a bit sceptical or maybe you can say that I was a scared that what if we fail in showing the same love to that child?! But slowly I came out of that inhibition and decided to make sure that we will all give our fullest in raising that child as our own.”

“And we never encountered a situation like that ever… right, Savitri? We all learnt the biggest and most valuable lesson of our life.. That, it all lies here.. in our hearts..”, Dadaji said as he touched Maan’s chest gently.

“Vicky was a god sent child to this family! He completed everyone of us. He became a part of our heart… Well, am so happy that Geet and you think just like Mamta & Pratap… Rishte kaali khoon se nahi, dil se bhi utni hi mazboot ban sakta hai!”, Dadaji patted his back in glee and hugged him tight.

Maan hugged Dadima too as she kissed his forehead.

“Don’t worry about Geet’s parents. Their reaction is normal too. Not everyone can easily accept such a step! Give them time and they will come around.”, Dadima sounded comforting.

“I Hope so, dadima.. But am really happy that you both will be there to fulfil that void..”

“Theek hai beta.. now go and rest well.. Everything that's happening is happening for the good..”, she said as she slowly got up and Maan helped Dadaji to settle in the bed.

As he turned to move towards the door, he spoke out, “And Dadima.. Thank you for giving me a deeper insight about Geet’s probable POV on having a biological child. But am clear that I will love her always and having a biological child with her is not going to define our relationship any day.”

Dadima patted his cheek with all her love and the heartwarming meeting dispersed to rest for the night.

They say that when the time is right, everything will miraculously fall in place! But Geet, unknown to the fact that the universe was manifesting the best life for her, was heart-broken with her Father’s extreme decision to sever ties with her.

Well.. she has crossed half way through the hurricane of her life and the rest though difficult will be dealt with.. Don’t you think??
