When Rāvasāheba first announced that Mukta would die if she entered the house, it reminded me of dowry death. Arya's father's contribution to the business that Sarang is supposed to run is like a dowry, now that it depends on Arya becoming Sarang's wife. Without anyone asking Mukta's family for dowry, if Rāvasāheba murders her to clear the way for Arya to bring a dowry, does it count as a dowry death?

I think of "honour killing" as a woman's family trying to show society that she has been punished for premarital/extramarital sexual transgression. When Atmaram slapped Mukta because Sarang put kuṅkū on her, he did it in this spirit. If society sees him punishing his daughter as soon as she looks like a temptress, maybe society will not want its own vengeance against the entire Shinde family.

When members of the Nagarkar family plan to kill Mukta, it doesn't fall into the category of honour killing, in my opinion, because they consider her an outsider and expect her to be seductive, bewitching etc. Harming someone of the wrong caste or socioeconomic class for marrying into the family isn't honour killing. It has to be violence directed at someone who is supposed to behave honourably, like Sarang or Renuka.

Well, I have a different perspective on the overall scenario..

For Raosaheb, his family's honour has always been a matter of pride..we have seen Vaijayanti too striving to protect it..In light of that. when his own blood fell for a woman who was no match to his status both monetary and caste wise , it was too much for Raosaheb to handle and so he decided to kill Mukta to get rid of her.

Yes, it would be killing motivated by a sense of honour, but the term "honour killing" has a narrow meaning, and I think the distinction should be maintained.

Kusum was worried about Bhakti marrying Kanta Sheth because he has a history of prostituting his women, and of course, that would ruin the Shinde family's honour. Kusum was ready to kill Bhakti to prevent that future. Would "honour killing" be the correct term for that? I don't think so, because Kusum's motive wasn't to punish Bhakti for a sexual transgression so that society would see Kusum as honourable.

Similarly, I don't see the elements of "honour killing" in Rāvasāheba wanting to kill Mukta because she offended his honour. It might be termed "ambition killing" instead. It's the sort of snobbery-based villainy that is ordinary on daily dramas.

Kaal cha epi masta hota, Sarang chi hero sarkhi fight..

Raosaheb has lost it, kay sarkha Kill Mukta..He has no inkling of the depth of his son's love for Mukta,, he's a fool to think by eradicating Mukta he can get his son to marry as per his wishes...

षट्कर्णो भिद्यते मन्त्रश्चतुष्कर्णश्च धार्यते ।

A plan of six ears is revealed, and one of four ears is kept. But a plan of two ears - not one person is aware, not even Brahman.

Rāvasāheba, who has nothing to gain by killing Mukta and everything to lose, could at least do it quietly, choosing one trustworthy person to carry it out and making it look like an accident, but he has totally disregarded this advice from Garuḍapurāṇa to keep it under wraps.

He told Yuvaraj to tell Bhairu to tell Kanta Sheth to get a gang to set fire to Mukta's house with her and her family inside. Yuvaraj allowed Madhavi to overhear and modify the order.

He told Sarang, who would warn Mukta, Atmaram, Kusum, Bhakti, and Gaja and alert the Sarapañca and police if he wanted to prevent the murder.

Why did he tell Renuka? If the crime takes place and she doesn't report it, she'll be an accessory at risk of criminal conviction. I thought he loved his daughter. Renuka promptly blabbed to Ved, knowing that his father is her father's enemy. Asha overheard, and passed it on to Damu and Vaijayanti.

Adding Arya to the list of accessories, this criminal conspiracy is now known to eleven people other than the instigator Rāvasāheba, not counting an unspecified number of principals (the actual arsonist-murderers) and the five intended victims (Shinde family).

Mrinalini Jawle, who plays Kusum, is also the current dialogue writer for Ābhāḷācī Māyā on Sun Marathi.

I imagine that it is thankless, Sisyphean work to write dialogue for scenes that have no continuity whatsoever, with characters forgetting what they did in yesterday's episode ... abruptly switching from introspection to comedy, from agony to festivity, and from cruel practical jokes to romance ... finding the obvious way out of their self-inflicted problems only to go back to square one with nonsensical qualms ...

Sort of like Mukta's task of sweeping the steps, starting at the bottom and working her way up, so that the leaf litter falls on whatever she just cleaned.

On a positive note, Mrinalini Jawle has created a series of comedic interviews, "Knowledge ची पाठशाळा," on her Instagram page, jawlemrinalini. Episode 5 features Roshan Vichare (Sarang) and tags Vaishnavi Ghodke (Bhakti) - I guess she's behind the camera. It looks like they're on set at night, and Sarang's clothes haven't changed.

In the real world, it's almost the full moon of Kārttika, but on Dāra Ughaḍa Baye it is still Dasarā afternoon, a day that dawned with the October 27 episode. The costume and makeup teams have to make it believable that characters have only been wearing the same clothes and kuṅkū for less than twenty-four hours ... they've only sweated through one āratī, one protest-drumming, one pickup truck ride, two brawls, a spicy lunch, sweeping steps and patting cowdung-disks ...

All in a day's work!

No, my formal education in literature and philosophy ended with my first year of university, decades ago. Since then, my education, research, publications, and teaching have been as a scientist. I have performed peer review of scientific publications and grant applications, and I have helped scientists to plan rigourous experiments, analyze large datasets, and write insightful papers and theses. I also love the logic of stories and languages.

How about you? What are your interests, if you don't mind the personal question?
