2021 promises to be an exciting year with the Vikram Vedha remake and Adipurush, in which he plays Lankesh to Prabhas’s Ram and Kriti Sanon’s Sita. “It’s interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off her nose,”

The antagonist never thinks they're the antagonist - they're the protagonist in their own mind and think they're justified.

That's different though than the film narrative justifying their actions.

Interesting to see how it plays out and any attendant backlash.

Dont we already know that? Ravana's abduction of Sita is already justified.

An added fact is that Ravana did it to attain moksha and returned at Lord Vishnu's gatekeeper.

Ravana (originally Jayan) was originally one of the gatekeepers of Vaikunth along with his brother (Vijayan). They were cursed to be born on Earth a thousand times before returning to Vaikunth. When they begged the sage their births were reduced to three but they had to be Vishnu haters.

Vijayan's Birth one was as Hiranyashakan so the Varaha avatar killed him.

Jayan was born first as Hirayakashipu so Narasimha killed him.

Ravana was Jayan's second birth and Kumbakaran was Vijayan. He was given immortality by Lord Shiva and could only return to Vaikunth if Lord Vishnu would kill him, hence the Rama avatar.

The third birth was as Shishupala (Jayan) and Dhandhavakra (Vijayan) who were cousins of Krishna...they were killed by Krishna avatar.

^ LOL! These adaptations never fail in making a hero out of highly problematic men like Ravana and Karna.

Curious to know how demoness Shurpanakha's acts will be justified. I guess the narrative would be tweaked to paint her Treta Yuga abla naari. 😅

Moreover, will they show the humane Ravana killing his dearest sister's husband? 😓

Agreed. But, if we disregard these divine origins and histories of characters, the abduction can't be justified.

The IV bits make me feel like the narrative would be twisted heavily to justify Ravana and to include him in the category of those wretched grey anti-heroes. Already we see ignorant people sharing trash with captions like Ravana never touched Sita blah blah when it's established that the former was a RAPIST.

Look like another case of Saif having a classic "foot in the mouth" moment i.e, basically not knowing what to say and how to say it.smiley26

"Justifying" Sita's abduction? Seriously?
Couldn't he have simply said that they would TRY to show Ravan's side of the story by showing his perspective.

Considering the anti-muslim/anti-nepo/anti-bollywood sentiment these days, seems like Saif is practically asking to be TORN APART now by online trolls.

Can't wait for the controversies now.smiley36smiley36

Agree people just read memes or post on रावण and think they know everything

But he tried to harm sita ma in other ways like keeping witches nearby her so that they can always pressurise her and said they would eat her alive If she won't accept रावण however he failed because he was अधर्मी and also he killed शूर्पणखा's husband and she also wanted to take revenge from रावण

It's a bait, they will try every trick to generate controversy like Padmavat. Probably chose Saif to deliver such statements for this very reason. Now some random Sena will give more berserk statements against this movie, RW will trash the movie online, in turn LW will support it and end mein hype hi hype hoga.

Mani Ratnam already did a fine job of reinterpreting the character of Raavan with his movie. Do we need another reinterpretation quite so soon? I find it interesting that in Tamil Nadu, Raavan is never considered as a one note villain. They acknowledge that he became evil. But they also acknowledge his knowledge, valor, that he's the son of a Brahmin sage, that he's a devotee of Shiva etc. I'll find it more interesting if Sita gets more voice in the new version. Madhuri's Sita in Lajja still cracks me up. "Laxman, you started all this trouble. Raavan should have kidnapped you instead of me."

Ramayan from Ravan's POV would be interesting. If we have it from Sita's POV, then nothing wrong from having it from Ravan.

But of course this is not possible in a country of snowflakes .
