Doesnt matter where you live in the world be it India, US or somewhere in Europe. All men will take offence with their wife have a job or earns more than them.

What Nirmala said doesn't just concern her or just in India or in "east Asia" but actually around the world. If a man in your office gets to know you earn more than him he will take serious offence, and think why she is earring more money than him?

Not just that his male friend will make fun of him because he earns less than a women. And that is really sad.

Yes there are lot of men who believes in equality which we all should be thankful for, but wish there were more men which was like that.

It is an established fact that men get paid more than women inspite of having similar credentials! That's just how things still are...but it is changing...

This is damn true. I've always had a job, I'm not someone who can sit at home. I'd find it hard not to work even if my husband told me I don't have to. It's the 21st century. Mind sets need to change for the better!

Yup...there are tons of statistics out there...which show how underrepresented women are in the workforce...especially in executive positions and the sciences!! But I am optimistic that things are only changing for the better. Nowadays...most urban men share household responsibilities so that women can pursue their careers.

But the thing is that...a lot of women actually drop out of the workforce...sometimes by choice...coz they would rather stay at home and look after the family. It starts off as...taking a break for a few years till their kids grow up a bit...but the problem with that in today's times is that...if you have gap years...it is tremendously difficult to get back in to the workforce...coz there is so much competition and no dearth of talent!!!! It is but a very sad truth.

Society is still such that we forget to teach our daughters to dream!!! We forget to teach them to be vissionaries!!

A lot of parents stress education...but education by itself does not mean much...unless you know what to do with it...education can never be the endpoint...it is a means to achieving an overarching goal!

Personally I also don't like the mindset a lot of people have...which is padhai=paisa!

And the other thing that is soo common in India these days...by hook or by crook get people admitted in to engineering/medical/business schools...even though the person might be least interested in those things! The thought is that...koi job toh mil jayegi...bas aur kya chahiye...well the thing is that...these are the type of people who usually drop out...coz they couldn't care less about their work!!

Parents, teachers and others should really let children do what they want instead of just shoving them in to the flow of things!! This kind of mentality breeds mediocrity!

So sorry about the rant!

I get Nirmala as a working woman myself. She is right it's tough to be a woman. I started working after I graduated from university. I was single then, but a few years later I got married. Still worked. Had a kid, still worked. I did take some time out for about 1.5 years after my 2nd but now at full time work again since this year. It's always tough to balance work and life. Especially when you work in the corporate world, and have meetings and events sometimes etc.

Fortunately I don't have a MCP husband. So I don't have any concerns on that score. But I had a working Mother too. She was a lecturer. Sometimes Dad got frustrated with her hours when she had exams on and other writing commitments etc. But not as bad as Shravan's dad. What an ace jerk!
