I think it's because of how far Shravan and Suman have grown apart. He is crying for the loss of their innocence. He is crying because the special bond between them has gone cold. He hasn't just lost a friend but a vital part of himself.

When Suman gave her mother's jewellery to Shravan, it was like she had slapped him. She gave away such a precious thing close to her heart and the one who drove her to such an extreme is Shravan himself.

Noo, it was a moment thing.. If he cared Soo much abt protecting the innocence then he wouldn't have insulted Suman in front of all, at the party ! Granted this was his way of getting back to her, in revenge.. But, why spoil things, when they were good to begin with ! He asked for this.. And Suman giving him the jewelry is like, showing him that she isn't willing to take any kind of 'favour' from him ! She is protecting her dignity that way, after getting a blow to her self respect at the party. Her giving the jewelry also shows him how hurt she felt and how disrespected she felt.

He knows what its like to lose something so valuable...and he was sad for her. It also hurt him that she couldn't accept his help...and in order to repay him, she brought that pain upon herself. The line he fed her today about being chalak...is his minds way of rationalizing and ignoring the pain he still feels for her. Further proof in the pained expression on his face when she she said that his leaving is best for both of them. These 2 feel so much more than they acknowledge...but i can't imagine that it can keep going on like this of much longer.
