Chaitanya Tamhane's 'Court' has lost out in the Oscar run. Nine foreign language films have advanced in Oscar race. India's official entry - 'Court' - doesn't figure in the list. Out of 80 accepted Oscar submissions, nine features have been shortlisted to advance to the next round of voting. Thirty Academy members will watch the films to select the final five nominees. This list will be announced on January 14 next year.

Among the chosen nine films are Hungary's 'Son of Saul' and France's Turkish-language 'Mustang'. Two other Golden Globe nominees, 'The Fencer' and 'The Brand New Testament' also made the cut. Director Kamaleswar Mukherjee, who was part of the committee that selected 'Court' as the Indian entry to the Oscars, said, "It is a disappointing news. We had all liked 'Court'. I haven't watched the other films. Maybe, they are better."

The films that have been shortlisted are:

Belgium, 'The Brand New Testament', Jaco Van Dormael, director;
Colombia, 'Embrace of the Serpent', Ciro Guerra, director;
Denmark, 'A War', Tobias Lindholm, director;

Germany, 'Labyrinth of Lies', Giulio Ricciarelli, director;
Hungary, 'Son of Saul', Laszlo Nemes, director;

Disappointed.
Anyways I think sending Court has been the best decision made by the Indian committee members in a long, long time. The film was easily the country's best bet at the foreign film category this year.

They should have sent Bajrangi Bhaijaan in this Catg as BB was the most Loved & Universally acclaimed movie of this year . Everyone loved the film . May be BB would have won the award too .
