PROLOGUE
Song: <Running Up That Hill> Placebo
The night was long and dark; the moon hid behind the murky clouds whilst the cold sneaked its way into the warmth and diminished it. The trees stood still whilst the silence became louder. There was something menacing about these woods. As if all the colours and lights in the world were replaced by white and black. Even the squirrels and birds knew not to trespass here; there was just something eerie about this place. Something dark and evil.
"Why are you doing this to me?" The girl cried, her hands tied together as she pleaded to the masked man. "Please. Just let me go."
The man said nothing but he simply picked her up and carried her behind the old oak tree. She whimpered as he towered over her, gently brushing his fingers down her face. She flinched as he grabbed onto her hair and looked into her teary eyes.
"Who are you?" She sniffed. "Why are you doing this to me?"
"Sshh." He placed his finger on her lips and whispered into her ear. "Didn't I tell you that I wasn't going to hurt you?" The girl whimpered as the tree's rough bark dug into her back. "You were always such a pretty girl, who could I hurt you?"
"Please. Just let me go." Her voice faltered to a whisper. "I promise. I promise I won't ever tell anyone about this, okay? I'll just forget this ever happened and then everything will be---"
"Ssh. Silly girl." He brushed his fingers through her long, brown hair. He loved that feeling. The feeling of softness, and warmth. The feeling of someone close to him, so close that he could hear their heartbeat. "Calm down. I know you're not going to tell anyone. I trust you." He stopped and looked straight at her. "I can trust you, right?"
She instantly nodded. "Y-Yes. You can trust me. I promise. Just let me go and I promise you I won't ever tell anyone."
"Of course you won't." He smirked before leaning towards her ears and whispering, "Because you won't even live to escape." Her eyes widened as she tried to move away but to no avail. He was too strong for her. He pushed her down onto the hard ground as she screamed out for someone to help her. "I told you. There's no one here. No one to save you. So, scream all you want."
"Please. Just let me go. I'll do anything." She cried.
"You know what my favourite thing in the world is? This. I love the feeling of when people would do anything for me." He laughed. "Oh wait. Nope. That's my second favourite. My first most favourite thing in the world is... surprises! I love surprises! The look on people's faces when I've surprised them is just... ah, so satisfying!" The masked man looked down at the scared girl. "So sweetie, shall I surprise you one last time?"
The man smiled as he took the mask off his face and watched as the girl shook in fear. "Y-Y-You?" She stuttered. "W-Why?" She gasped. Her breathing getting heavier. "H-How could it be you?" She let out a cry as she tried to understand what was happening.
"I'm sorry." He whispered. "It was never meant to be you."
