'A woman should be sought after'

Roshni Chopra says she's the opposite of her negative character Pia, who can go to any lengths to get the man she loves

ROSHNI K OLIVERA

Your character Pia in Kasamh Se is getting more and more negative...

• When the show started she was supposed to be someone who wasn't so negative; she was a go-getter, high-spirited and materialistic. There are people like that. It was a believable character. As the show progressed and the plot thickened she became extremely negative from the point of view of other characters. When you look at her point of view, she's blindly in love and totally obsessed with someone. She is willing to do anything to get her love. Of course this is an extremely challenging role because it's exactly opposite to who I am. When I was not married, even if I had a crush on somebody I'd never go upto the person. I believe a woman should be sought after and not the one seeking.
But some of the things Pia is doing in the show are bizarre...

• Even though I don't agree with Pia's ways I have to do it convincingly. I always get reactions from people where they say 'Why don't you leave Jai and Bani alone?' which tells me that I have been convincing in my performance. But I also have housewives tell me 'Aapke bina serial main masala nahi hai'. Negativity is a part of life. Everyone is not always positive, beautiful and loving.
When you took up the role did you expect it to get so negative?

• With a daily show you never know what twist it's going to take. I wasn't ready for the super success of Kasamh Se. Atleast I'm one character who's got the opportunity to play a gamut of roles... from positive and a light bubbly character to an obsessive woman.
But initially didn't you have a problem when your role turned negative?

• Yes. That's because I'm such a different person that I can't understand why someone would do that. After several meetings with the production house, discussing the character, I was convinced that it was required. An actor has to be convinced about what he or she is doing. Only then can you portray something with conviction.
You are also anchoring another show on TV...

• Yes, I'm anchoring Cinemascope. It's a breath of fresh air. I interview actors on the show. I get to play Roshni and that's nice

Awww, thanks once again Preet...Roshni is a sweet person... 😛 And I guess you got to agree without Pia, there would not have been any masala in the show but then again Jigyasa is enough for that! 😆
