their dance steps, but when it comes to their marriage, their
temperaments match easily, finds Dhaval Roy
APURVA AGNIHOTRI
How is it facing the camera for the first time with Shilpa?
• Honestly, I was quite intimidated and nervous to be in the same
frame as Shilpa, because she has done a lot more and better work
than me. But, it was really exciting, because I got to work with my
wife. We hardly get any time to spend with each other. We leave at 8
am, and do not get to see each other for more than 12 hours. But now
since we are working in Nach Baliye, we are together for rehearsals.
That was my only motive for doing the show.
So how good is Shilpa as a dancer?
• Shilpa is a very good dancer at discotheque and all. But to dance
for a choreographer is a different ball game altogether. I would
rate her four on 10. But, she is improving fast and I am sure after
the rehearsals, she will be 7.5 on 10. She is very hard working.
What do you think of Shilpa as an actor?
• Oh, there I will rate her eight on 10! That's why I said I am
intimidated and nervous to be in the same frame with her. I think
she is really good in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, but I liked
her the best in Lavanya.
Imagine you are at a party and someone makes a pass at Shilpa in
your presence, how would you react?
• The guy would be gone! I will blow the daylights out of him!
Three reasons why you are happy that you married Shilpa?
• Firstly, because she is what she is. Shilpa is a very upfront
person and that's the best thing about her. Second reason is her
smile; I love the way she smiles! The third one is that she is as
out going as she is a home body. It is not important for her to go
to a disc every night, and she is just as happy sitting at home with
me; that's where our temperament really match.
Your idea of an ideal date?
• My best date with Shilpa is yet to come. It would be the day I fly
with her. I have learnt flying. I want to get my license and take
her flying through Mumbai and get a bird's eye view of the city...
just her and me.
The best and worst things about Shilpa...
• I've already counted her positive points. As for her negative
traits, she is like a kid sometimes. She can be very impatient about
things at times, which is not such a good thing. Also, she nags me
endlessly if I don't call her. She just takes off and starts a
tirade of nagging if I get caught up with things and don't call her.
And, she is a cleanliness freak, unlike me, since I make quite a
mess out of our home sometimes. Actually it is a good thing, but
from my point of view it is bad.
What according to you ensures the longevity of marriage?
• Only destiny. I know people say love and trust, but I think at
times you may have love and trust in abundance, but still
relationships don't work. If it is destined to work, it will
otherwise it won't, no matter how much you love and trust your
partner.
SHILPA SAKLANI
How is it facing the camera for the first time with Apurrva?
• It was one of the most awaited dreams I've had ever since we were
dating. And, with Nach Baliye I've a great platform to be with my
husband in the same frame. As Apurva says, it's a path breaking
thing for us, majorly because it is not run of the mill serial that
we are doing as a pair. To crack a dance together is a difficult
thing!
So how good is he as a dancer?
• I would rate him 5.5 on 10, myself being four. He is definitely a
better dancer than me. Though, he is not really a great dancer, but
the best thing is that he has been working very hard on his dancing.
What do you think of him as an actor?
• I think he's one of the sexiest men in the industry. Maybe I'm
biased because he's my husband. I remember bunking my class and
going to watch his film Pardes. And, I found him very cute! So, my
judgement about him goes back to when I didn't even know him and
didn't even think I would be married to him.
What if a girl makes a pass at Apurva in your presence? How would
you react?
• Believe me, my husband is so nonchalant when it comes to flirting
and all. He wouldn't even look at the girl. If he himself wouldn't
react, I wouldn't need to either. Anyway, if such a thing does
happen, I would just let the girl have a nice time ogling at one of
the cutest men around.
Three reasons why you are happy that you married Apurva?
• There are a lot of reasons.... But, firstly because I think he is
my soul mate. Secondly, he is a great companion and a friend, who I
can talk about anything under the sun. Thirdly, I know I'm repeating
myself, because he is so cute! (Laughs)
Your idea of an ideal date?
• Just being with Apurva is an ideal date for me. Sometimes we get
so little time for each other that that even the half an hour we get
to spend together while travelling back from shoots is time well
spent. But, specifically, an ideal date with him would be something
like our honeymoon in Canada. We freaked out for 20 days, which
belonged to us alone; we went bungee jumping and had such a great
time.
The best and worst things about Apurva...
• The best thing is that he's a great companion, husband and son
too. He's not a pseudo, and says what he thinks. What I don't like
about him is that at times he is too neutral about issues, and too
prim and proper about everything. If he has been asked to do
something, he will do it just the way it is meant to be done. At
times I tell him that he must stop being such a mahatma.
What according to you ensures longevity in a marriage?
• Being faithful. One must know where to draw the line. I mean, we
don't get to spend much time together and we are constantly working
with attractive people of the opposite sex, and getting too close to
someone is unnecessary. One must draw the line between professional
and personal relation with them.
