PART: - ALMOST
Sachin :- What?
Purvi and Tej :- Nothing…
Sachin :- Weren't you talking about dada and some plan? Whose dada?
Tej :- Our dada…I mean her dada.
Sachin :- Purvi's gunda dada?
Tej :- Don't call him that.
Sachin :- Why not?
Purvi is staring at Tej.
Tej :- Purvi might get hurt.
Sachin :- Well he is one. Anyways what the plan?
Tej :- Nothing.
Sachin :- You just said something about a plan?
Tej is looking at Sachin worriedly.
Purvi :- Nothing, dada. What she meant was, I need a plan because I told dada I would come have lunch with him but now I don't know what to do because aai is upset and baba also doesn't want me to go.
Sachin sees that Purvi is holding her phone in her hand; he takes it and calls Soham.
Soham :- Purvi…how
Sachin :- It's Sachin.
Soham :- Why are you calling? Is Purvi ok?
Sachin :- She can't come to lunch today.
Soham :- Who are you to tell me that?
Sachin :- Her brother. I don't want to fight with you, so let me get to the point. Purvi is not coming because right now her mother needs her more than you do. Aai is crying a lot and she is scared she will lose Purvi to you. This is all new to my mother and she doesn't know how to react, so I am asking you to give her and Purvi some time to adjust. Purvi will come and see you and she will celebrate her birthday with you. She just can't come today, and if you really care for her you will not push her to come because it hurts her lot to see her mother in this state. If you care for Purvi, you will have to understand that she is part of this family long before you come. So, her first family will always be this family. We are not perfect but we love Purvi and if you love Purvi you will not make her choose.
Sachin hangs up and gives Purvi the phone. They are both looking at Sachin.
Tej :- What the….Why didn't you stop him.
Purvi :- Too shocked.
Sachin :- What? I am lawyer of course I know how to talk. If I didn't nobody would hire me. Anyways, I am hungry.
Purvi :- Give me some time, I am almost done cooking.
Sachin :- As long as Tej doesn't cook I am fine. I don't need a stomachache with this headache.
Tej :- Dada.
Sachin smiles; Tej and Purvi go to the kitchen.
Tej :- Are you thinking what I am thinking?
Purvi ;- Yes.
They both are looking at Sachin.
Purvi brings food for Archana. She sees Archana lying on Manav's lap. Both look worried.
Manav gets up when he sees Purvi. He is about to take the food from Purvi.
Purvi :- Can I ?
Purvi is looking at Archana.
Manav nods his head and leaves.
Purvi goes to Archana and sits on the bed.
Purvi :- I have cooked your favourite dish, have some.
Archana :- I am not hungry.
Purvi :- Then, I am also not hungry.
Archana :- You haven't eaten?
Purvi :- No.
Archana takes the plate from Purvi and feeds her.
Purvi :- I am not going.
Archana :- Where?
Purvi :- To see dada.
Archana looks away.
Purvi :- I love you aai and I promise you I will never leave you. You trust me don't you?
Archana :- Yes, but I don't trust them.
Purvi :- Then trust me, there is a reason why I am doing this and I will tell you soon. I promise. Just trust me aai.
Archana is quiet. Purvi takes the plate from Archana and feeds her. Archana is looking at Purvi.
Purvi :-For me, please.
Archana eats. As Purvi takes the plate and is about to leave, Archana holds her hand.
Archana :- Sit with me.
Purvi puts the plate on the table and sits beside Archana.
Archana :- You promise, you won't leave me. No matter what, you always will be my daughter.
Purvi :- I promise aai. You are my only mother, how can I leave you.
Archana cries and kisses Purvi's forehead. She lies down on Purvi's lap. She falls asleep; exhausted from everything that has been happening. Finally able to sleep after her daughter assures her, she will never leave.
In the evening.
Sachin :- Come Purvi, let's go out. I want to buy you something.
Purvi :- Now, I don't think it is a good time. Aai needs me.
Manav :- It's ok go. I am here. You two go.
Tej :- I am also coming.
Sachin :- Ok, Ovi you want to come.
Ovi :- No.
Ovi goes to Savita's room.
Manav :- Leave her. You guys go enjoy.
Purvi :- But…
Tej :- Let me convince her. Dada you start the car.
Sachin goes out. He and Manav are smiling at each other.
Tej :- This is the best time to tell him. You wanted to tell Arjun the truth also right. Now we can tell them together.
Purvi :- Ok. I will call him to come.
Shopping complex.
Sachin, Tej and Purvi are sitting in the caf. Arjun has just arrived; he kisses Purvi on the cheek.
Arjun :- My fiance, how are you?
Purvi is shy.
Tej :- You just love saying that don't you.
Arjun :- Yes but I would love to say My wife more.
Arjun holds Purvi's hand. He is drinking Purvi's coke.
Arjun :- So, what's up. Why did you call me here?
Purvi :- I have something to tell you but you have to promise me you won't tell anyone especially not to aai and baba.
Arjun :- What is this about?
Purvi :- Dada.
Sachin :- Me.
Purvi :- No..So
Soham :- Must be me then.
Purvi is shocked. She sees Soham, grandpa and Balan standing behind her.
Purvi :- What are you doing here?
Soham :- We come to buy you a present.
Soham hugs Purvi.
Purvi :- You already bought me a present.
Soham :- Well, grandpa wanted to buy you one.
Purvi :- There is no need.
Grandpa :- I only have only one granddaughter.
Grandpa gives Purvi the present. Purvi takes it.
Soham :- Come on, ask his blessing.
Arjun and Sachin are feeling uneasy. Purvi falls to her grandpa feet. He blesses her. Grandpa looks at Arjun.
Grandpa: - So, you are the guy who is going to marry my Purvi.
Arjun :- Yes.
Grandpa: - Aren't you going to ask my blessing? After all you are going to be part of my family. Let's forget what happened yesterday. Today is a new day. Let's start a fresh.
Arjun :- Yes, of course.
Arjun is about to go seek Grandpa's blessing when Purvi holds Arjun's hand.
Purvi :- There is no need to. Aai and baba have given their blessing that's enough.
Grandpa smirks at Purvi.
Soham :- What is wrong with him asking grandpa's blessing. Is this boyfriend of yours that great?
Purvi is quiet. She thinks, I will never let Arjun go anywhere near this man. Ever.
Tej :- Dada, what would like to eat? My treat.
Soham :- Dada?
Tej :- Yes, you are my brother.
Soham :- What are you talking about?
Purvi: - What she means, is that my brother is like her brother. That's all.
Soham :- Oh, ok.
Purvi is looking at Tej. She shakes her head.
Grandpa, Balan and Soham join them. After half an hour.
Soham :- Ok, we better leave. See you tom little sister.
Purvi :- Ok.
Grandpa goes near Purvi and whispers.
Grandpa: - There is a reason why you are close to him and I will find out. Just wait and watch. You will pay for not respecting me and I will make sure you say sorry.
Purvi is staring at him.
Tej :- What did he say?
Purvi :- Nothing. Just rubbish.
Arjun :- So, what you wanted to tell me.
Sachin gets a call from Manav.
Sachin :- Ok, we are on our way back.
Purvi :- I will tell you at dinner.
Arjun :- What is wrong? I know something is wrong, I can feel it.
Purvi :- I will tell you. Let's go home first.
D clan house.
Purvi opens the door. Everyone from the chawl is there. Neighbours, friends, little children. They scream Happy Birthday together.
Archana :- Happy Birthday.
She hugs Purvi. Purvi is lost for words.
