Thanks for sharing that list.
I know only about 10 of those songs really well...
(with Daas, Dishoom and Silunnu Oru Kadhal songs being my evergreen favourites!)
The last "new songs" I would have listened to was probably Kumki and Thuppaki...
I'm not up-to-date with the latest tamil songs these days.
I'm not interested in knowing about them either.
I listen to songs only before going to sleep...
(it's usually after a looong traumatising day (or night) at work.)
So I choose to listen to a few, selective tamil songs...over and over again...
that will eventually soothe a restless mind and guarantee a good night's sleep.
(It's strange...but even after so many years of music, Illayaraja's melodies remain the best medicine at such times too!)
Here's a constant list of Tamil songs I keep listening to...
1. Udhayam NH4 - Yaaro Ivan
(best heard at night in a dark, quiet room with only headphones - Saindhavi and GV Prakash literally sweep you off your feet)
2. Kumki - Ayayayoo Aananthamey
(Though the happy male version is a wonderful delight, I like the slow female version with the violin interludes just as much)
3. Kireedam - Akkam Pakkam
(A world where no one exists except you and your loved one...wow!)
4. Alaipayuthey - Snehithane
(A song that's close to my heart because it's like my real life...doctor girl and IT guy meet and fight with each other...and fight against time to be with each other)
5. Johnny - En vannile ore vennila
(Illayarja, Balu Mahendra, Jency, Sridevi, Rajnikanth...and that serene atmosphere of subtle rainbow colours as one sings and another silently enjoys. Always brings bliss to the soul).
6. Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen - Etho oru pattu
(Though the male version is the popular, romantic number...I like the female version where the woman reminisces her sweet childhood memories of just being a young care-free girl)
7. Ullam Kollai Poguthey - Kavithaigal Sollava
(I like both the happy and sad versions...but when you listen closely, it's amazing how the tune is soothing yet the lyrics pierce your heart in the sad version sung by Hariharan)
8. Sengottai - Bhoomiye
(This song was not included in the 90s movie, but it was part of the music album and it's one of my personal favourite duets of SPB and S. Janaki)
9. Kannukul Nilavu - Roja Poonthottam
(One of the few romantic numbers of Vijay's earlier movies that I listened to non-stop...with due credit to Illayaraja, of course.)
10. Senthamizh Pattu - Chinna Chinna Thooral Enna
(Okay...this is Illayaraja's masterstroke. The movie was mentally-retarded and stupid but this song remains priceless even after 20 years - thanks to Raja sir.
Plus this song is lovely to listen to on a dark, rainy night!)

TRENDS,FASHION SENSE ETC

The onset of skin tight jeans into our wardrobe was a few years ago.And it started a bit warily with slim fit and low waist design and now is firmly entrenched in our minds and our houses.I have always worn pretty decent clothes although i only had a few of them thanks to my aunt and never worried about clothes and stuff until i started interacting more and more with the fairer sex in my teens. And then again clothes and fashion were tools to attract and be unique in the eyes of the maiden i was wooing.Modelling and television educated me more about fashion sense although from a young age i knew what colors would suit me or would not suit me.But it was more like i liked a few colors and the rest of the colors were damned.Black, white, navy blue and sky blue were the only colors that filled my cupboard and many a time people have asked me if i hadnt changed clothes in a long time.

But from late teens to now a jeans and tee is all i need to go anywhere and do anything.I seem to be most comfortable in that duo of clothing and i hope to die in my fav tee and jeans.Well with jeans i somehow could never go for that low waist stuff for fear of showing my butt crack to the wide world.Talk a lot i might but still i am basically very conservative at heart and never found the need to wear low waist jeans which frankly look ridiculous on most of our teens with scanty backsides and the jeans just fall off with the back pockets somewhere near the area behind the knee.

Somehow this trend in clothing seems to apply to music too.Okay i do hear some popular hits and that too if the lyrics and vocals are good. But again and again i go back to Ilayaraja and even further back.My wife will sometime stop and look at me just to confirm if i am the same man she married or if some entity has taken over my senses.I list a few songs which i often hear and hum along and sometimes even bravely sing off tune and off pitch with the song.OMG,now i know why all those doors and windows slam, bang.i knew i sang pretty badly but not that badly.losers, cant appreciate a budding talent.

meenda sorgam-thuyilatha pen ondru kanden
alayamani-thookam un kangalai
idhaya kamalam-unnai kaanaatha kannum
then nilavu-paatu padava
veera thirumagan-roja malare
petra maganai vitra annai-thendral urangiya pothum
pasamalar-malarnthum malaratha
vallavanukku vallavan or ayiram parvayile
avalukendru oru manam-unnidathil ennai koduthen
paalum pazhamum-naan pesa ninaipathellam

Maybe because i grew up in the seventies with the black and white era i am still stuck there or it is just that songs from the 60's,70's and even 80's be it hindi or tamil had more melody, meaning and were sung by some great singers.today when i listen to new songs i get loose motion hearing these hindi guys singing tamil songs.okay they have sweet voices but horrible pronunciation and that is when i wonder why top leaders who beat their breasts and bang their balls about tamil dont make a stand or at least voice their protest at tamil being murdered.Ketta idhu thaan latest trendunnu solraanga.latest trend means wearing skin tight jeans which makes it impossible to walk in a straight line, giving the testicles such a crush that they dont work for a decade

Okay.its all me people and these are my thoughts and opinions and if bricks, bats and skinny jeans are flung at me i bet you cant hit me for i can run fast on my comfort jeans and regular fit jeans sitting high on my rump or should i say gulti muscle as my school PT MASTER bheeman used to wrongly pronounce gluteus maximus or bottocks the way forrest gump says.

Thanks for sharing the trailer of Ramanujan.

It was too brief for me to predict how the movie will be...
I hope more trailers are coming up soon.

Maybe they don't want to oversell the story right from the beginning.
At least that way, an element of surprise will remain as we watch Ramanujan's life story unfold in front of our eyes.

Besides, his life story should inspire the genius in each and every one of us.
I think it's a movie all school kids from all walks of life need to watch and take inspiration from.

Greatness is not this wonderful, elusive, God-like feature that only the special one of us will ever taste.
It's something that truly exists in all of us.
I hope the movie conveys this message beautifully, because Ramanujan was an ordinary man who achieved extraordinary heights against all odds and struggles in his life.

(Oh, I'm glad you're missing in the trailer, Satish.
That would just ruin the surprise, wouldn't it?)

Best of luck to you and your team.
Hope the movie lives up to its expectations.

Yay!! I finally got to see "2 States"!!
It's probably the only movie (so far this year) I found worth my time and money...
and deserving to be watched in the theatre.
Came out feeling emotionally high and mushy.☺️
I haven't read the book so I cannot compare.
But I am told the book is better to read than the actual movie...
the movie did skip some scenes which could've created a light-hearted atmosphere in a rather tensed situation.
It is a bit slow and melodramatic at times...
but the casting crew is spot-on!!
This is probably the movie's BIGGEST plus point...
because the supportive characters are the real backbone of the film.
They all have limited roles but they each show their versatility in the minimal screen-time given to them.
I cannot imagine anyone else playing their characters.
Arjun and Alia literally look like a match made in heaven.
I loved their crackling chemistry.
But Ronit Roy is the real show-stealer who comes in "a special guest appearance."
Amrita Singh as the Punjabi mother is hilarious and terrific.
And Revathy...wow...
any senior Tamil actress can play the role of a stereotypical south Indian mother in a Bollywood movie.
But there can be only one Revathy who gives that role such dignity and respect worth praising for by the North Indian audience.
When she suddenly sings "Saathiya Yeh Tune Kya Kiya" (from her 1991 film "Love" with Salman Khan)...
it literally gave goosebumps to everyone in the theatre.
Damn her and those expressive eyes!!!
I was like ...
(After coming home, I had to rush back to youtube just to watch her and Salman Khan romance each other all over again in that beautiful 1991 song!❤️)
Of all the North Indian - South Indian love stories that Bollywood has come up with lately (Aiyya, Chennai Express, etc)...
I found this one the most endearing.
There are a few scenes that leave even the hard-hearted with moist eyes.
The songs gelled well with the scenes.
"Mast Magan" was my favourite when I saw the movie.
And the background score in the climax scene leaves you feeling emotionally exhilarated.
The temple where the wedding takes place looked picturesque and beautiful.
They say "marriage is made in heaven".
Here, the climax wedding scene did look like it was literally shot in heaven!
The beautiful temple sits on top of the mountains and the sunrise is standing tall and proud behind it as the families get together for holy matrimony.
That was a beautiful shot worth remembering.
Not everyone has the same taste and likes.
I did read some negative reviews about the film before watching this movie...
but I came out feeling emotionally high, enriched about my Indian culture and feeling human.
Overall, I enjoyed it!!😛

A young man learns what's most important in life from the NEIGHBOUR

Over the phone, Jack's mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

"Jack, did you hear me?"

"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said...
"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him.

"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.

"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said.

"He's the one who taught me carpentry," Jack said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important. Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.

As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.

The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time.

Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture. Jack stopped suddenly..

"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.

"The box is gone," he said
"What box?" Mom asked.

"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack said.

It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it. "Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read. Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside.

"Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch.

Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved:

"Jack, Thanks for your time! -Harold Belser."

"The thing he valued most was... my time"

Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.

"I need some time to spend with my son," he said.

"Oh, by the way, Janet, thanks for your time!"

Think about this. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.
