I am glad you enjoyed Dilli6......like Nums and i had discussed, the movie has it soul in the right place......and for sure is a hatke movie and YET stays strongly mainstream.
As for Jai Ho.....the sudden dancing in the end was actually a a big drawing for the goras who though did not understand the significance of it, until someone decided to press "ON" to their respective tubelights.
The reasoning was that it was the celebration of life.......that even after having gone through all this, people in India celebrate their lives!
Atleast that is what NY times hailed.......phrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
The choreography, well maybe it was deliberatley shoddy, not to make it look too rehearsed to bring the spontaneity factor.....just a thought, I could be wrong......though that would kill me....😉😆😉
ahh just kidding girl! Cheers!

They liked the story....you know so different from their ivory towers, and we have to give to the director that he has shot it well and kept the narrative tight and interesting.
But I have had many come up to me and ask if it's true.......like does this exist in India.....
Bloody typical ignorant Amercians.......I still need to find a real Smart-ass answer to this query..........Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

i guess what worked for them was the fact that the setting and the story was both indian........people were intrigued by it because it showed a side of both the world and of cinema that these academy walas hadnt seen....i mean i know its a britsh film but at times it felt like a typical bollywood masala....especialy the love story....the feel good factor is also there with the whole rags -to-riches thing....it really did a feel like a typical bollywood fare at times ....i suppose the fascination with the East worked for the film..

After I saw the movie, I told a friend that I'll bang my bang if it wins the Oscars. 😆 My head is still aching... 😆 As Nupur said, presentation style is perfect and unique... but content cliched. I loved the way the story was told but what was told did not make much an impression.

I read somewhere, they forgot to give due credit to the choreographer. The protagonists (Patel and Pinto) were not that great, according to me. And, they have been hogging all the limelight, and Miss. Pinto has bagged a Woody Allen project now.

I am not sure when it won the Oscar for best movie, I loved Crash. Though again the same cliched content but said in a different style. 😊 May be, I should judge the western audience with the same yardstick. 😊

Vasu, I do not think it's an Oscar material... May be director, AR Rehman, Pookutty (I am biased 😉) could have won but declaring it the best movie is going too far. My POV.

Nupur, say "YES" without blinking. But then, American teenagers are all about ***, NY all about gang wars, and blacks are all criminals if I form my opinion based only on movies.

Nupur, have you seen Reader?

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I am finding this whole celebration in India too over the top and bordering cheapness. Congress party is showing this win as its achievement...😡 God Bless India.

Frankly I didn't much care for the film. I felt it was sensationalising poverty and the film itself was a poverty tourism film.
Yes such poor kids exist, there is no doubt about that. Some parents try hard to give their offspring a good start and there are those who are indifferent.
In our school, we have plenty of children who come from the slums, but their parents are trying to give them education. Indians are generous when they hear a sad story about a child. Money comes for the poor ones provided they come to school and educate themselves. We as teachers do our best to give our little ones the best, feed them if they are hungry and clothe them if they have no money to buy clothes(through funds donated and often thro our pockets too). If I ask on this forum, please donate, each one will donate and not look away. But that will be the bright side of India. Who wants to see that?
Let's have Slumdog instead. Besides who am I to criticise someone's "creativity" ?
Stories of child abuse are existent all over the world. What goes on in poor countries is always highlighted. Oh the poor .........
Rather than dwell on the curses of society, why not dwell on the goodness that exists and go forward? You'll find thousands following you.......
