Not just that, like I pointed out in the cited thread
Who killed Abhimanyu? Jayadrath was one of the 11 senapatis of the Kaurava akshaunis, and one of his jobs was to prevent Drona's chakravyuha from being broken. Or if it was, to fix it again. Just b'cos Abhimanyu had gone thru didn't mean that he had a moral obligation to let the rest of the Pandava army follow him. His job was to keep the chakravyuha intact, so that it could advance & capture Yudisthir.
Actually, I blame Arjun himself for being so quick tempered & touchy and carrying so much of baggage regarding his vows. Okay, so the Shamshaptakas challenged him, so what? His first duty there was to prevent Yudisthir from being captured, like he did on day 12. He was in the army as a major combatant for the Pandavas: it wasn't his job to go about personally responding to anybody and everybody who insulted him. Sooner or later, everyone in that side was gonna get killed - whether it was by himself, or by Bhima or Satyaki, what difference would it make? He should have remained w/ the main army and penetrated the chakravyuha. That would have saved his dear Abhimanyu, and also made that day too a Pandava victory.
The significance of Abhimanyu's death is that it aroused a casual Arjun, who up to then was not taking the war seriously, despite the Gita, despite Krishna getting off his chariot twice... Once Abhimanyu was killed, Arjun adapted the same attitude that Bhima did - that the enemy was the enemy. Up to that day - days 1-13, it's not known how many akshaunis of the Kauravas were destroyed. But on day 14, Arjun, along w/ Satyaki & Bhimasena, destroyed EIGHT of the 11 akshaunis of the Kauravas. Only 1 or 2 may have remained.
