Rain drops trickled inside their mouths every time the lips parted slightly to let the air in, and added to the sweetness filling up the unison of the lips. The uneven breaths also calmed down, and gradually evened to a similar rhythm. Madhu's soft fingers opened up from the tight fist, to hold on to the rock hard chest of Rishabh, while his hands smoothly passed down her arms and held her waist securely. The kiss that had started almost as a sudden assault, melted into the sweetest sensation that Madhu had felt in ages.
Rishabh gently parted his lips and saw Madhu's eyes closed, lips trembling a little, and rain drops rolling all over her face. "Madhu," murmured Rishabh, and immediately she opened her eyes in wonder, realization dawning on her about the past couple of minutes. Madhu immediately stood back from Rishabh, and looked around in panic. Then gasping out loud she ran inside. Rishabh stayed back on the terrace for some time more, heavy rain pouring all over his body, and his mind sipping in the most beautiful emotions that he had realized in the past moments.
"Madhu, Adit will be one year in two months. We have to celebrate his first birthday in a grand way," said Radha with a smile. "Yes, Ma," replied Madhu while helping her in the kitchen. "Then we have to get prepared for Rishu's wedding as well. I don't want people to raise their fingers saying I made any discrimination," said Radha sadly. Madhu froze at the reference of Rishabh's wedding, and stayed mum. "Is everything ready beta? Let's go and have dinner."
At the dining table Rishabh sat opposite to Madhu. He looked unusually calm. Every now or then Madhu would feel his warm gaze on her, sending shivers down her spine. "Please pass me the dal," said Radha, when both Rishabh and Madhu held the bowl together, their fingers lightly brushing each other. As if hit by electric shock, Madhu pulled back her hand. "What happened beta? Aren't you feeling well?" asked Radha, seeing Madhu's red face. "No, Ma. It's just that I got wet in rain today, that is why, maybe.." mumbled Madhu when she saw Rishabh smiling at her warmly. After a couple of minutes Madhu left the table, saying she did not feel like eating any more.
Madhu did not give Adit to Rishabh for putting him to sleep that night. She did not want to face him, and stayed inside her room. After putting Adit in the crib, she went to her bed, and closing her eyes she tried to get some sleep. But every time she closed her eyes, Rishabh's face flashed in her mind. She could still feel his lips' wetness in hers, his touch around her skin, his breath on her face. Why was she not cringing at such thoughts? Why were they making her feel light, and may be happy even? Madhu twisted and turned in the bed for some time, then sat up, unable to bear this turmoil anymore. Suddenly she heard a faint clicking sound of her door's lock, which opened slightly and Rishabh stepped inside, locking the door behind him. Madhu's heart started beating faster, her throat and lips parched, as she saw him approach her bed slowly. Why was she not shouting at him to leave her room right away? Rishabh came and sat in front of her, keeping his gaze on her face. The moonlight through the window fell on his face, and Madhu could discern his handsome features quite clearly. Stop taking in his charm, get up and ask him to leave! Rishabh raised his hand and cradled her cheek, bringing himself even closer to her. "Stop it, Rishabh," Madhu spurted out, after numerous of her failed attempts. "I can't," whispered Rishabh and started kissing her cheeks. The moment his lips touched her skin, she could feel her control slipping away. "Please, Rishabh. Stop it," mumbled Madhu, but the more she struggled, the tighter his hold on her became. Rishabh pushed her inward and raised his feet on the bed. He lowered Madhu on the pillow and leaned on her, his eyes moving between her eyes and lips. Madhu swallowed hard seeing the raw passion and love in his eyes. "This is wrong, Rishabh. Stop it right now and go to your room," whispered Madhu and tried to push him back. Rishabh lowered his lips on to her neck and mumbled, "Please be mine, Madhu. Let me be yours, forever. Let me be Adit's papa. I will give you all the happiness of this world." Madhu's eyes filled up at his proposal, and for a moment she stopped struggling under his hold. "That is not possible, Rishabh. I can't do that to Ma, I can't betray her," whimpered Madhu. Rishabh raised his head and looked into Madhu's eyes. "I'll make Ma understand, Madhu. I am sure she will be happy to see us together," said Rishabh. "No, this is not right. She loves me as Amit's wife. She will feel betrayed if she comes to know about my feelings for anyone else. This is not right, Rishabh. I could not keep Amit by my side, and now if something happens to you because of me, I will never be able to forgive myself," Madhu blabbered as the deluge of emotions took over her mind. Rishabh stared at her unbelievingly. "Do you think Amit died because he was married to you? Please stop punishing yourself, Madhu. I love you Madhu, and even if you deny I know you love me too. I will speak to Ma tomorrow and everything will be fine," said Rishabh in an assuring tone. "No, you will not tell anything to Ma. Swear on Adit, that you will not tell anything to Ma!" blurted Madhu vehemently. Rishabh gaped at her in utter shock. He slowly sat up and turned his back to Madhu. His vision was getting hazy with tears. Both of them stayed like that for some time, without uttering a single word. Then Rishabh stood up and slowly walked to the door. Holding the knob he said, "I am sorry Madhu. I should not have taken such liberty on you. I should have kept in mind that you were and always will be Amit's wife, and Adit as Amit's son. Forgive me, if possible," and left. Madhu broke into sobs and hid her face in the pillow.
