We just do things because that's what 'everybody does' or 'has always been done'. I understand that and I'm guilty of that too. My question, however, was a tad bit different. If Padmini escaped from an abusive marriage and has been scarred for life, then why does she choose to remind herself of that horrible time? I would think that anyone finally escaping a nightmarish existence would either choose to obliterate it from their memories or take a very public stand against it and work to eradicate that situation altogether. I just don't understand the sort of equation Padmini has with her past...

Bhoomi,

Don't worry. This is fiction and soap. Obviously the reason for Padmini sticking to rituals or marriage is because Madhu needs to be able to argue with her mother one day, as to why she did not forget Ballu, when she will be forced to leave RK and at that time she won't know how to explain her love 😆

In reality, men and women are quite smart at embracing reality.

Anyways, I have a question.
Does Padmini call herself Padmini Choudhary ? or Simple Padmini ?
Has Shamsher Malik adopted Madhubala as his daughter or not ? Or is like the school documents and all etc just got stamped with his name ?

I mean I don't think you can make a child your kid at random. Various questions pop up in daily course of life for which the parents, children have to be prepared to answer and confront as necessary. Life is not that easy as shown in 22 year leap of Madhubala.

Look how RK tries to take advantage of the loopholes present in Chowdhary-Malik story. Its almost like Chowdhary and Maliks were living in Garden of Eden and suddenly Satan RK came from somewhere and has started popping up all questions to which they are totally unprepared for. Honestly this is too far-fetched for me and I see it as dramatic element.

The creatives want us to see RK hurting Padmini through implication of abandonment or adultery, but to me one rant of Padmini at RK's words would have been doodh ka doodh and Paani ka Paani. And yet she wants to cry. Its just a drama choosing to stay quiet one time and rebel at other time. So far only underlying patterns of the dramatic elements are keeping me happy. Once they lose the focus, I will also lose interest.

But by giving Madhu Malik's name, she ensured that Madhu's childhood was free of taunts. Had the unfortunate situation happened in Madhu's childhood days it would have created a lasting impression on her. Since it happened later in Madhu's life, once Madhu could understand her mother and her situation and love Malik, she was better able to cope with the situation emotionally and mentally.

I don't think it has affected either Madhu or Trishna adversely. She's been laudably honest with them from the very beginning; they know the whole story and understand and support their mother completely. No issues there. I'm just talking about the situation with Mukund's mother and with RK. Outsiders are going to perceive the girls and the family in a certain way because of the surname, and given that Padmini is not the sort to disregard what people think of her, I'm just saying she should've thought of it from an outsider's perspective.

If she really is thinking on the lines of point 2, my respect for her just went up a notch. I hope, from the bottom of my heart, that that's it... Unfortunately, I have the bad feeling it might be on the lines of point 1. Allow me to say that Indian attitudes to marriage are THE WORST in the world!! Ugh.

Fully agree. In fact, I think I called marriage and its signs a title deed in an earlier post. I feared that might create a furore but no, nothing at all. Now had I said I think Rishab's nose is too small, even in the middle of all this complext text, they would have found the post and I would have been pilloried! Forum as a model for Indian society? ha ha Ha

Shameless plug:

Did you guys manage to read my take on Monday's episode in the form of a short story? It is called Monday Today or something! Do read! i can't resist getting feedback from an articulate bunch of people, who are rarer than icebergs in the Sahara in forumland.

What can I say except that she wasnt so far thinking when she did what she did. She made the best choice she could make under the circumstances..

Haha @ laying the ground for Madhu's ultimate argument. What will she do if Paddy tells her to leave RK and continue to wear the mangalsutra? 😛 Stupid CVs..

Ummm, I'm not sure @ Padmini's surname. Don't know about the legalities of adoption either. I don't think it even matter unless Ballu comes claiming his daughters and that can be dealt with pretty easily considering he tried to kill them and the whole chawl are witnesses to that.

I agree about the questions people have to face, but in this case, the chawl knows the whole issue, and the outside world wouldn't know anything beyond what is in the certificates. So to that extent I understand why it wasn't an issue before RK. But it was really stupid of Padmini to assume that people wouldn't misunderstand her relationship with Malik. It was even more stupid to assume that the misunderstanding wouldn't affect people's ideas of her, her daughters and their family.

I don't know what Paddy can tell RK, honestly. Ballu is a secret that is best concealed and also, there's the threat that RK can actually seek Ballu out and join hands with him (especially since she considers them both ek khet ke mooli 😃) How else is she going to refute his allegations? The name on the certificates is quite damning, in my opinion. Which is why I say she was unwise...

The minute the show shifts from being about flawed, complex characters and their dark relationships, and turns into a saccharine-sweet romance, I'm out as well. Knowing Indian TV, that will happen sooner or later. Pity...

Meta peeps,
As the weekend draws to a close, at least where I am, i wish to thank you all for a totally sick chai party. Who would like to convene next weekend's party? Topic will be there choice, as will the first comment. If it is helpful, we could copy and paste the definition of meta on the new thread, to encourage new participation. what do you think? Also, perhaps a firmer stance discouraging completely unrelated spamming as we got yesterday?

To me, this was a huge success. The range ideas and quality of discussion were very high, and I enjoyed every moment of it!

salute!

in press conference rk told padmini is having live in relation with mallik.gale mein mangalsutra kisi aur ka aur ghar ki baahar nameplate kisi aur ka.when rk announced in interview i felt bad for padmini but now i feel he was right.children's surname is mallik's and wearing mangalsutra ballu's.one most dissappointed thing of padmini is she and her 2 daughters are fully dependent on mallik without any relation how could she.without earning means without working for last 8 years how she and her daughters lived woh bhi kisi bharose pe and kaun si rishte se.from start when paddy came mumbai till now they told paddy knows only one work that is working as jr artist in film set.kya ballu ke pass intna patience hai if his daughters get their original fathers name.i feel padmini principles change accordance to her profit.because surname is needed then she can give her surname before marriage.in last 20 years woh apni bachon ke ek alag ghar le nahi payi ,she is still living in mallik's.how a self respected woman can do.paddy house is running because of mallick and madhu before madhu started earning maybe only mallik.mallik is taking care of 2 children because he gave name and love them like his children eventhough he is not married.how can paddy be so low and dependent on doosri mard.kash cv's give good reply atleast ,how.

Oh! I have read all your posts in this discussions. I have liked majority of them as I understood them, even if I did not agree with some thoughts. Some I did not post my like because I would rather chew on the matter for digesting. But then others followed up on your posts and it made the debate interesting.😊 I am getting to know you.

I am new in this forum, so am happy knowing members here. Glad to meet you all.

For me more than the agreement or disagreement, mutual respect matters. Nothing more than that. And no one thing in this world is absolute. Everything is relative. So thoughts vary. Perfectly agreeable as we tend to make all kinds of equations anyways.

Must say MEIEJ has gripped me bad like fever.
I need to do weekend housekeeping and here I am sitting at the forum. 😆
