here is the next chapter.. hope you all like it as well...

Chapter 55

Geet stood rooted to the spot. She closed her eyes and willed her mind to stop its silly hallucinations. She heard the voice again "Happy birthday Geet." She pinched herself to wake herself up. "ouch"

She felt a hand on her shoulder turn her around ever so gently. But her eyes remained shut for fear that if she opened them her dream might come to an end. "Geet, Geet. I pull a double shift at work, race to the airport and scramble onto my flight minutes before it leaves just to wish you a happy birthday and you don't even look at me. Geet open your eyes."

She opened her eyes slowly to look up into a pair of amber colored eyes. "Hi Rishi." She whispered. He was really there.

"Rishi?!" Mru and Prachi exclaimed in chorus. No wonder Geet was smitten.

Her eyes never left Rishi's as she introduced her friends to the man who had occupied her thoughts for a very long time now. "Guys this is Rishi. Rishi these are my friends Mrudula and Prachi." Rishi averted his eyes away from Geet for just enough time to say hello to her friends.

"So Geet I'm glad you like the chain. I know you don't wear too much jewelry but I thought you would like this. I guess I was right." He smiled and the girls could clearly see why the female population of Geet's college was crazy for this man. He wasn't what you would call classically good looking. But there was something about him that you couldn't look away from. Strong jaw chiselled cheek bones and a nose that had once been broken at what seemed like the perfect spot. His dark hair was cut short and it just brushed his collar at the back. The fact that he was 6'2 and looked like he worked out every single day of his life didn't hurt the eyes either.

"You came all this way for me?" Geet still felt like this was all a dream.

"Yes. I came for you. Why else would I be here? I don't really know anyone else in this city."

"Are you kidding me?" Mrudula whispered to Prachi. "Milind is head over heels for you. This one has her own adonis. Was i absent the day they decided to hand out the hot men of the universe?" The only answer she got was a swift elbow to the ribs from Prachi that resulted in a yelp of pain. Geet turned towards her best friends with a questiong look only to find them both smiling and waving that everything was just fine.

"Umm.. we are having a party on the beach you have to come and join us." Geet finally seemed to have found her manners.

" I would love to." He held her hand and let her lead the way.

Mru walked ahead of them all and reached the beach. "You guys you won't believe it. Rishi is here! He flew in just for Geet's birthday! And of course she is completely stunned. They are all coming out now." Mru spoke informed Neev and Milind if the developments so excitedly that she needed to take a breath when she was done.

"What? Rishi is here? How the hell does he know the address of this place?" Milind didn't know if he approved or didn't of the turn of events.

Neev however seemed excited to see the man who had won Geet's heart. He didn't have to wait long. They saw Rishi , Geet and Prachi were heading down the beach to the party. Geet had a dreamy look in her eyes that Milind had never seen. He quickly walked over to the trio.

Geet made the necessary introductions, her eyes never leaving Rishi's face. If it had been anyone else he would have been amused with this situation but this was Geet and he really didn't need some Casanova charming his best friend.

"So Rishi what do your parents do?" Milind thought some background information was definitely needed at this point.

"Well sir," the boy looked away from Geet "My dad is a surgeon and we have our own surgical specialty hospital in Mumbai. We are planning to expand very soon. My mother takes care of the administrative aspect of the hospital while my father takes care of the medical side. "

Rishi's 'sir' had Milind feel a million years old. "Please Rishi call me Milind."

Rishi just smiled and nodded. Mru who had been silently watching the exchange stifled a giggle and made her way to the DJ's desk. She whispered her song request in the DJ's ear and caught Geet's eye. She gave the girl a wink and a thumbs up sign completely confounding Geet. But the mystery was soon cleared as a very slow romantic song began playing over the speakers.

Milind caught the look of intent in Rishi's eyes but before Milind could stop anything from happening Rishi asked Geet to dance and she accepted with a coy smile. Milind didn't know what surprised him more; the fact Geet wanted to dance to such a slow song or the fact she even had a 'coy' smile. He watched closely as Geet and Rishi swayed to the music, ever prepared to break the boy's arms if even a breath was inappropriate. Mru who had been watching Milind watching the couple of the dance floor walked up to him. "You know you are worse than Sid bhaiyya. Ok come on lets dance and you can keep a closer eye."

Milind smiled gratefully and led Mru out onto the dance floor. He kept glancing Geet's way but couldn't help his eyes straying to Prachi often. She was dancing with Neev, and they seem to pause every so often.

"Ouch Prachi" Neev exclaimed in pain. "What is the matter with you? Are you angry with me or something?"

"Sorry Neev I don't know whats wrong with me today?" Prachi admitted apologetically.

The song ended and Milind was relieved. He was about to walk over to Geet when he hears Neev call out his name. "Milind, we have to switch partners. Prachi keeps stepping over my toes. Mru you come and dance with me." Neev didn't wait for an answer as he dragged an apologetic looking Mru away.

They stood there awkward with each other's presence. Prachi tucked an invisible strand of hair behind her ear and Milind knew she was uncomfortable. The music began to play and it was another slow song.

Milind cautiously held his hand out and Prachi slowly accepted. He pulled her close and placed his hand on her lower back while her arm snaked onto his shoulder. They moved to the music and all of Neev's complaints seemed false. They moved together as one each anticipating the other's move. But not once did they look into each other's eyes.

Finally Milind broke the silence. "So how do you like the party so far?"

"Umm. Its wonderful. Everything looks great." She looked up at him for the first time that night. He was dressed to kill. Faded blue jeans and a black shirt, the first couple of buttons left open due to the humidity no doubt but effectively increasing the temperature around them.

"Good. Good." He said.

The silence returned.

"Milind, about the other day. I want you to know I am truly sorry." She had apologized over and over again but she still felt the need to do it more. She looked down at the dance floor.

"I told you forget it. You had your reasons for saying what you said. And although I can't understand them I accept that they are your reasons. So lets not talk about this anymore." There was a sense of finality in his voice that made her heart break a little bit more. She felt her eyes clouding up and looked up into his face. "I really am sorry Milind. I never meant to hurt your feelings or to insult your friendship."

He looked into her eyes and saw the pain and sorrow he had never seen before. He gently wiped away a tear of her cheek. "Then tell me why you asked me that Prachi. I thought we had something special and then you turn around and question my morals. Why did you have to even ask?"

Prachi shook her head. "Its not you its me. I swear. I just want us to be friends again. Like we were before you know.." Her voice trailed off. She wished they could be more than friends but he would never want her now she assumed. Little did she know he wanted her more than ever.

"We can certainly try." He replied with a sincere smile and Prachi was elated.

The dance ended and another black forest cake bigger than the one from the previous night was wheeled out. Geet cut the cake and ate the first piece herself again. Dinner was served and the food seemed to go by in a flash. Rishi kept to Geet's side throught out the night which caused Milind to keep a closer eye on the boy. Little did he realize his 'brother bear' attitude did not go unnoticed by Neev Prachi Mru or even Geet.

As the dessert plates were being cleared up Rishi turned to Geet. "Ok I better go."

"Yeah you just be tired. Let me get someone to check you in. And then you can go get some sleep." Geet started looking for Alveera.

"No Geet. I'm leaving back to Mumbai tonight." With that he began walking towards the lobby. Geet quickly walked behind him.

"What do you mean you are going back tonight? You just got here. Are you trying to tell me that you came all the way to Chennai, after puuling a double shift no less, just to give me my gift?" Geet couldn't believe it.

"Yes I did." He said it as though it was the most logical thing in the world.

"Ok you could have mailed it to me. Or you could have waited till I came back and given it to me then. Why on earth did you have to come all this way just to give me a gift?"

Rishi had the most mysterious smile on his lips as he walked towards Geet. They were now alone in the lobby with everyone else down by the beach. He gently reached over and gathered her in an embrace. Geet initially stiff from shock relaxed. He whispered in her ear. "You really don't know why I came to see you Geet?" He gently kissed her on her cheeks and wished her a happy birthday once again.

He released her quickly and walked towards the foyer. A chauffeur got out of a waiting car and opened the door. Rishi got in and waved leaving a speechless and stunned Geet standing in the lobby with her hand on her cheek.

And so am I. 😆 I had this stupid grin whenever Rishi and Geet were in the same frame, which was throughout the chapter...and, yay, I got my kiss, even if it's just on the cheek 😆

btw michi still planning for an elobrate friendship, ask them to behave or else i give a damn to my job and beat the hellout of them 😆 😆
and rishi wat yaar , he should have waited for 5 min more i was on my mway or tell me was peaking from some where.
