He warned her multiple times, wanting her to back down from this. But she didn't give up and so with a final warning that he would never let her go now, he accepted.
I already love the teasing going on between the couple.
The choice is something which was never given to her, but now she did have a choice and she choose him.
And though it was a deal, he fulfilled all his promises said and unsaid.
Nice update. Please continue soon.
PART 5
Prerna looked at herself in the mirror and was pleased with her appearance the midnight blue dress ended right at her knees and suited her complexion well, the black heels made her legs look longer and the diamond studs tied the look together, the only other jewelry she wore were her mangalsutra and her wedding ring.
She had been lining her eyes with kohl when her husband had entered their room and abruptly stopped at her sight. She looked at him through the mirror her hand stopping mid motion.
“You look stunning” he said.
“I… Thank you” taken aback for a minute “would you like to rest a little before we leave, you look tired.” She has asked concerned.
“No, I am fine just give me a few minutes to freshen up and then we can leave”
“Ok, I’ll just call maa and request her to please not let her be up late."
He couldn’t help chuckling at that.
She narrowed her eyes at that “of course go on laugh, you and your mother-in-law are going to spoil my daughter rotten” she scoffed and without giving him a chance to reply had left the room.
**********************************************************
“Where are we going” she had asked for the 15th time in the past 25 minutes but the stubborn man had refused to tell her anything except “It is a surprise” for a man who did not think before committing sins he sure had a saint’s patience.
“Can’t you at least give me a hint” she had tried to negotiate.
And then he had said in an utterly patient voice the one you used with kids when they were being bothersome “Just 10 more minutes, have patience it would be worth it”
She had simply pouted and been quiet for the rest of the drive.
But even though she wouldn’t admit it to him he was right this place was worth the wait she had been pleasantly surprised when instead of some overpriced, exquisite place like she had imagined their car had parked in a spacious property with a beautiful bungalow in center with a circular garden where tables were placed far away from each other, excellent for privacy.
Beautiful roses were all around the circular fence, the trees covered with fairy lights and beautiful lanterns overhead, the place was for the lack of better word…. Magical.
While she had been in awe of the place’s beauty and tried to take it all in the manager had himself arrived to escort them to their table.
“The place is beautiful, thank you for bringing me here” she said as he pulled out the chair for her “I didn’t know such a place existed in Kolkata”
“Well only a few know, this bungalow was built during the colonial period for a government official thus the old charm, it was converted into a restaurant a few years back but I discovered it in the initial months of my stay in Kolkata.” He told her.
“You love to know the history, the stories behind places” she commented, she had noticed it during the time of their honeymoon as well if it could be called that, he seemed to know everything about all the places they visited.
“Yes but how do you come to that conclusion” he asked, a little impressed by her observation.
“Your eyes seem to shine with pride whenever you tell me the history of any monument o rplace and you do have quite a lot of books related to architecture in your study” she simply answered.
“Well yes” he hesitated for a moment before speaking again “the habit comes from my mother, she loved to read, to study any piece of information she could lay her hands on,we couldn’t afford going to exotic locations but mom read about all of them as if she could experience them by just reading about them.” His voice a little edgy.
To say she was surprised was an understatement this was the first time he had mentioned anything about his family and she couldn’t be happier.
“What would you like to have” he said in order to change the topic.
“Thank you for sharing it with me, it….it means a lot” she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper “why don’t you order for me, just make sure its tasty” her tone back to normal.
He looked through the menu for a few seconds before settling for a salami and fig crostini with ricotta for starters and antipasti for main course with a bottle of merlot.
After placing the order he turned his attention back to her “You know what they say, never let anyone else decide what you eat” he said in a light tone and he wasn't prepared for the dulling of her smile when he had said those words.
He looked at her confused, she spoke not meeting his eye “That was baba’s favorite saying his answer to all of maa’s attempt to make him eat healthy”
“You and your father were very close” it was more of a statement than a question.
“I was, he always loved all of us equally you know but me and baba we always had something special…. He taught me to play chess at midnight, never missed a single school event, children were scolded for not meeting their parents expectations I got a chocolate ice cream when I didn’t score well in exams” Her voice broke off.
The longing in her expression and the moisture in her eyes wasn’t lost to him, Prerna had always worn her heart on her sleeve but she had also remained guarded when with him so it was overwhelming to see her letting her guard down even if slightly.
“He was a good father” was all he had been able to say, he had no idea how to comfort her, all he wanted to do was tell her that she wasn’t alone that he understood, instead he had simply taken her hand into his, the small action saying more than words ever could.
“So are you”she had said while squeezing his hand gently and he had been unprepared for the emotions that had swelled in his heart.
What are you doing to me? The question he had wanted to ask her for days, for weeks ….for months softly repeating itself in his head again.
Fortunately it was the same moment their food arrived saying him from his tormenting thoughts for a while.
He had watched in amusement as Prerna’s eyes lit up at the sight of food, if there was something that made prerna this happy other than sneha or her family it was good food and Rishab was constantly surprised by how his wife derived pleasure out of mundane things people did not think about twice.
“This looks absolutely delicious and I am not going to save it for you better dig in before I finish it all” was all she said before serving herself.
“For someone as slender as you, you do have quite an appetite” he had jokingly said.
While any other woman would have been slightly offended Prerna had simply pouted and said“No one’s ever accused me of being a light eater and I do need the energy you know, our daughter keeps me on my toes” her eyes lighting up and fondness evident in her tone at the mention of her daughter.
He had often wondered if prerna knew how much her eyes talked, how much they gave away, whenever someone she loved was mentioned her eyes would soften until nothing but tenderness remained in them, whenever she was genuinely interested in something they would spark with excitement and curiosity, whenever she was angry or hurt they would turn a shade darker, they made it impossible for he rto lie.
“
The conversation flowed easily throughout dinner with them talking about anything and everything and Rishab realized something about his wife that while she loved to talk she was a great listener as well, she hung on to every word you spoke, no matter how boring or casual the topic was she listened as if it was the most important thing in the world.
And this is when he understood why her phone calls with her sister lasted for hours, because Prerna Bajaj made you want to talk about everything and anything, until no burdens remained on your heart and this scared him more than he would ever willingly admit.
“What do you recommend for desert, is the blueberry cheesecake nice” she asked while going through the desert menu.
“I thought you wanted ice-cream” he said with his one eyebrow raised.
“Who said I won’t have ice-cream” she smiled at him, eyes shining with mirth.
“Of course” he had replied back, as if he would ever deny her anything.
“Coming back to the cheesecake” she said.
“I think you’ll like the lemon tart more” he suggested.
“Lemon tart is it then. What about you?” she asked
“Coffee”
She looked at him weirdly “Your daughter can have all her meals made of chocolate and you won’t even have desert”
“I am not that fond of sweets” he replied.
After she had thoroughly ravished her tart and forced him to have a little they were ready to go.
**********************************************************
“Now where do you want to go” he asked as he buckled the seat belt and began to drive.
“Right from here” she instructed.
“Okay, but where are we going” he asked again.
“It is a surprise just follow my instructions” she said satisfaction clear in her voice.
And he suddenly felt a moment of déjà vu.
