Run Mumbai run......

The spirit of Mumbai would come alive once again when people across professional, economic and social classes would come together to take part in the Mumbai Marathon. Some run for a cause while others for personal reasons, but whatever the reason might be, the spirit of occasion definitely needs to be saluted.

We try to find out who amongst the television stars are taking part in the marathon and their motivations for same.

Poonam Dhillon

I will take part in the marathon on Sunday. I would be running for the children who suffer from autism. It is a disease that does not have physiological manifestation, but is the cause of many a traumas in the family that has somebody suffering from it. Though I won't be running the full marathon but would take part in the shorter version.

Mona Singh

I would not be able to take part in the marathon that has become a part of the city's ethos. I will be flying to Dubai for a live event for which I have already rehearsed. May be in the next year's marathon you may see me participating.

Ronit Roy

I am not lucky enough to take part in the Mumbai Marathon as I'm tied up with my busy shooting schedule on that day. The concept of marathon, I believe is a great way of showing concern for various issues.

Cezzane Khan

I so wish I had time to take part in the marathon. My shooting schedules are quite hectic these days and I don't get time to do anything else. I love the spirit that drives so many people to come together and run in the race. Hats off to them!

Bhaktiyaar Irani

I have already registered myself for the marathon race and would most likely make it to the event. I would be running for a cause to raise awareness about obesity and its harmful effects. Since I am already physically fit, I am not taking any special training for the race.

Rakshanda Khan

Yes, I would be part of the race on Sunday. I would be participating for Make A Wish foundation who work for the underprivileged. Though I am suffering from a knee injury and might not be able to run for long, but I will definitely be present on the occasion.

'I love going for long drives'

These days, I have been shuttling between the sets of my show Ek Ladki Anjaani Si and Pune. Shakti (Anand) and I pack up in the night, take our car and drive to Pune on a daily basis. We return the next morning and report straight to the sets.

The weather is great and I love the drive. We have made more friends in Pune than Mumbai.

Since both of us are shooting continuously, it's very difficult to make plans. So I really enjoy this little drive out we have each day.

Since we are in character all day, it feels nice to unwind. I have always been very fond of Pune because it doesn't make me homesick. At the same time, its like going on an outing of sorts!

Will Cezzane break the myth?

The gossip market is already hot with talks about Balaji loyalist Cezanne Khan aka Anurag Basu opting out of Kasautii Zindagi Kay. And like many others who have taken this path, he too has been offered a plum project by Sandeep Sickand - a mega show on Sony opposite none other than Aamna Shariff.

It's also speculated that rival channel Zee has also been coaxing Cezzane, though he hasn't given his final nod to any. He's biding time till Mohram (auspicious reasons?).

Now that so many doors have opened for him, Cezzane has all the liberty be choosy! After all he's a big name thanks to this only show on TV.

So what will be the fate of Anurag Basu in Kasautii? Bumped off…..or plastic surgery and viola, a new face…… Going by the adulation the character enjoys, the former presumption can be discounted.

However, if one goes by the track record of all the Balaji walkouts, a majority have been devoid of the success they met at this production house. To cite examples are Rajeev Khandelwal (Time Bomb, Left Right Left), Anuj Saxena (Rishton Ki Dor), Nausheen Alii Sardar (Kaalchakara), Shweta Kawaatra, Shweta Keswani, Barkha Bisht.

Will Cezanne prove this statistics wrong???

Kasauti readying for a leap with Hiten!

Kasauti Zindagi Kay had a five year leap sometime ago and the buzz goes that its readying to take a twenty year leap soon. To add to the drama, with the lead protagonist Cezzane Khan having walked out of the show, Anurag Basu's role has been offered to Hiten Tejwani, an old Balaji loyalist.

"Ekta has offered me the role of Anurag Basu and I have no qualms doing such a thing. Lets see how the situation shapes up, I am keeping my fingers crossed,"says Hiten who seems excited at the prospect of working in the show. Currently, the actor is being seen in Kyunki, as Karan Virani.

To get a further lowdown on the leap we spoke to a few other actors. Tina Parakh who earlier played Mukti and now Devika in the show, says "People have told me about the leap but I will be a part of the show only if the story is good. I'll probabaly take a decision only after I've a meeting with Ekta." Tina is all set to get married on 9 February and go for a break from 25 January says,
Moonmoon, who plays Sampada in Kasauti says, "I am yet to have a creative meeting with the production house but looks like the meeting is getting delayed endlessly. I've also heard about Hiten joining the show."
Jeniffer Winget prefers to keep mum about the leap until she gets a green signal from the production house.
"I would prefer not to comment about the leap right now. Talks are on about the leaps but I am still not sure about it"

Hiten Tejwani will play Cezanne Khan's role in Kasauti Zindagii Kay

"Yes, I have been offered the role of Anurag Basu, and I am game for it.— Hiten Tejwani

It's official. Hiten Tejwani aka Karan Virani of Kyunki Saas Bhi Bahu Thi fame will play Anurag Basu's character in Kasauti Zindagii Kay, after Cezanne Khan left the show as well as Balaji.

When contacted, Dorris Dey, creative head of Kasautii said, "We have chosen Hiten because he is a good actor and at the same time very popular. We are confident that he will play the character of Anurag Basu well."

What about his screen chemistry with Shweta Tiwari? "We can't talk about it now. Only after shooting starts, will we be able to say something. Both are good actors and will do wonders as they have done in the past," she added.

Hiten, when contacted, said, "Yes, I have been offered the role of Anurag Basu, and I am game for it. We just had a formal meeting with the production house and the shooting is yet to start."

How confident is he acting in another serial that takes a generation leap? "I am already doing one serial, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, that has taken a generation leap and is still a big hit with the audience. Kasauti has also been very popular, so I don't have problems with acting in another generation leap."

Did he like Kasauti… as a show? "I am always so caught up with work that I am unable to watch even my own shows. So there is no question of watching another daily soap."

Cezanne Khan

How different will he be as Anurag, which is synonymous with Cezanne Khan? "Well, he is a good actor and played the character successfully for a long time. But, the creative team told me that my character will be different. I am yet to figure out how different it will be as the shooting hasn't started. But, I will play Anurag's character in my own way."

So, is he slowly becoming the next big thing as Ekta had earlier predicted? "I and Ekta have had a good relationship for a long time. And, I am happy that she trusts me a lot with her projects," he added.

So, does he looking for projects outside Balaji? "Ekta has given me the best of the projects always. Moreover, I am so caught up with work that I don't have the time look for projects outside Balaji. I also like to do a few quality films. So, I am too busy for the moment," he added.

Seems like Hiten Tejwani has become the 'replacement boy' at Balaji. Every time one of her biggie actors quits a show, Ekta Kapoor uses her dial-a-friend option and commands Tejwani to fill in.

Now that Cezanne Khan has finally quit Kasautii Zindagii Kay after much dilly-dallying, we hear Hiten has been pencilled in to play Anurag Basu.

The happiest person to hear this news is Shweta 'Prerna' Tiwari, as finally her arch enemy won't be around to pester her with his presence. We hear she shares a good rapport with the affable Tejwani, so it will be interesting to see how the multi-tasking Hiten succeeds in taking over the reigns from Cezanne.

Neha Bamb There was a time when my day used to start with Sudoku. I used to eat, sleep and breathe it. But I guess, I overdid it. I don't solve it regularly now. Undoubtedly, the puzzle is very gripping.

Gurdeep Kohli It's like a drug, so addictive. I solve Sudoku puzzles in between breaks during shooting. It's a memory game and trust me, it is inescapable. My day is incomplete without solving it.

Tina Parakh I have stayed away from it because I have heard it's very addictive. From the time I enter the sets of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii till the time I am out, I see others engrossed in it.

Sumeet Sachdev I am bored of it. A year back, I would religiously devote an hour of my daily schedule to solving Sudoku. But I soon got fed up playing it and gave it up.

Sai Deodhar I have been trying to get the hang of its technique, but no luck so far. I sit my Sudoku puzzle practically every day hoping that I will get it. It's not very easy. But it's a game to try.

Benaf Dadachanji It's great time-pass. I solve Sudoku every day and never get bored of it. The fun is in wracking my brain because the combinations are a difficult task to chase and overcome.

Achint Kaur Yes, I have heard loads about it, but honestly speaking, I haven't had the time to actually understand the game.

Hiten Enters ' Kasauti…….'

Ekta Kapoor has roped in Hiten Tejwani of ' Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' fame to play the part of Anurag Basu opposite Shweta Tiwari in Balaji's ' Kasautii Zindagi Kay', a popular soap going on for years on Star Plus. Anurag Basu, on getting film offers from bollywood, has left the serial as well as the Balaji Telefilms. Hiten Tejwani confirms the news saying, ' Yes, I have been offered the role of Anurag Basu, and I am game for it. We just had a formal meeting with the production house and the shooting is yet to start.'

Hiten is confident that he will be able to evolve the character of Anurag Basu in his own style without disturbing the continuity of the serial. About the generation leap, that is going to take place in the ' Kasautii…', he is confident that he will come out successful from all this, as was the case with ' Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. Shweta Tiwari is a good actress and they should be able to take the serial through this leap phenomenon. He is also of the view that doing few quality projects is better than having more projects with less quality.

Leaving STAR was not easy for Samir Nair

Mumbai, Jan 23 (IANS) Quitting as the CEO of STAR Entertainment India was a painful decision for Samir Nair, who will now be joining NDTV's soon-to-launch entertainment channel as a partner.

The decision was taken after weeks of deliberation when Nair tried hard to balance his loyalty to the channel, which he helped build from scratch.

Confirming the move, Nair told IANS: "Yes, I'm quitting STAR. And obviously it won't be just another move on the same level. I need to grow as an individual and a professional. I need to become an entrepreneur now. But I'll always be in the entertainment business."

Close friends confirm that Nair tried hard to work out things with the channel.

Ironically, Nair's resignation was made public Monday when the third season of his brain-child "Kaun Banega Crorepati" (KBC) went on air with Shah Rukh Khan as the new host.

He is fully prepared to face the flak or the hosannas.

"I've worked on the show from scratch. We've changed quite a lot of the format from earlier on. And, of course, there's Shah Rukh. It can't go wrong," asserted Nair.

Nair is the man who saw tomorrow in KBC and the trio of TRP-towering soaps "Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi", "Kasauti Zindagi Kay" and "Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki".
